  1. I am getting a terrible grinding sound when I try and start my car. Once the car is started the car sounds fine. Is this due to a bad starter?
  2. I used soap and water solution with a scouring pad (sp?) or steel wool. I don't think you have to worry about scrubbing the defroster. Just don't slice it with a razor blade.
  3. Not bad for $500. The rims alone are probably worth at least $200.
  4. Mike, try Classic Datsun.com Click on 240Z and scroll down to fiberglass parts. $170 a set.
  5. That can't be right. I have a 327 w/camel hump heads and I ran a 14.2 after backing off early because I was getting some vibration. I went through the traps at only 60 mph so I'm sure I could have gone at least 13 flat. This was with bald $hity tires. Funny thing was I still spanked the supra turbo I was racing.

I saw a set on ebay a few days ago. I'm sure it will be cheaper than MSA.
  7. I just got my camel hump heads rebuilt and I'm ready to put them back on. I've never done any type of engine assembly so I have a few basic question. Is it as simple as bolting them back on to the correct torque and adjusting the valve lash? Let me know if I'm missing anything or if anyone has any helpfull tips. I would like to use my old rocker arms but they were not kept in order. If I reuse them, do I have to get new pushrods or does it not matter that they will not be paired with the same pushrod.
  8. Go with JL Audio. You won't be disappointed. Two 10s or one 12 should do fine.
  9. Has anyone driven a 928 w/chevy V8? My brother has a 928 that is just sitting around. Ideal candidate for the swap. Gotta finish the Z first though.
  10. I need the car to be streetable since I will be driving it daily. I didn't want to mess with any of the internals since I need the car to be running soon. I have no idea what cam or pistons I have since I bought the car as is and the previous owner bought it from a tow company. Would there be any noticable power difference if I went from my camel hump heads to dart iron eagles? Do I have to change my pushrods also?
  11. Brought my heads to the shop to be rebuilt and I find out one of them is cracked. Should I do the core exchange for another head or does it make more sense to just go buy a new set of heads. What are the best flowing cast iron heads? Besides weight are there any other advantages going with aluminum heads? The heads will be going on a 327. Another option is to just buy a crate motor. What do you think?
  12. So you're the lucky guy that snatched the car before me . I was seriously considering buying the car too. If you didn't buy the car last night, I probably would have bought it today. Congrats on the purchase. PS If you happen to change your mind about buying the car let me know
  13. 2"-3" cowl hood. If you are going through the trouble of fabricating a new hood, might as well make it alittle bit different. A 2" cowl is a subtle change but still appears stock.
  14. Thanks for all the info. I got a propane torch and I'm gonna try heating it up. How long should I heat it? Do I have to get it red hot?
  15. I wanted to do a 3D model of the whole frame. If I ever get around to doing it, I will certainly post it here.
  16. I think the swap in the JTR manual was a Lexus V8. I like the idea of a Q45 swap. I'm all for modern technology and if you could handle the cost and engineering involved then go for it. Innovation is always a good thing We all should be open minded to any engine swap as long as it makes the car perform better. That should be the goal of any HybridZ. Engine manufacturer should be irrelavent. If you go forward with the swap, please document the project for future reference.
  17. I would like a front splitter, rear diffuser, and a vented hood or cowl hood. A full front end would be very nice.
  18. Does MAS have a website? I'm interested in a tilt front end and was wondering how much a one piece fiberglass front end would cost. Also, how is the fit on these front ends. Is there any trimming required?
  19. I know someone who flared his 280zx. He said he just bent the metal and welded on some additional sheet metal to extend it out a little. If you were at the MSA show the car was there but not entered in the show. It is a blue 280ZX with body kit, whale tail, and cowl hood. I could try and get a pic later.
  20. I was there in the long line at 8:00am with my buddy in the silver 280ZX. We caravaned with 3 280ZX's all with whale tails, a 280Z and a Z32. This was my first MSA show and I had a great time. Next time I'm gonna try and get some sleep the night before. We didn't sleep at all and by the time we got to LA we were up for 30 hours. Not fun at all.
  21. Personally, I like all the chrome trim blacked out on a red Z. It will look sweet with the black rims on.
  22. I was changing my collector gaskets and the last bolt I have to take out is seized. Does anyone have any suggestions how I can get this bolt out. I already tried WD-40 and I don't have an impact gun.
  23. What is the name of the shop and where is it located. I'd like to get my car painted this summer.
  24. A friend of mine ran a dry setup on his 280ZX. It was jetted to about 40-50 hp which I think is pretty safe. The only other mods were a MSD ignition, intake & exhaust. I don't remember if he changed his clutch or not. Just read all you can on the subject and don't get greedy. If you try and jet it too high you will run into problems. I went one jet too high and I lost a cylinder in my celica. But if you jet it right and follow all the safty precautions, you should be able to make as many runs as you want.
