  1. Do you guys think the louvered inspection lids will be effective to reduce under hood pressure?
  2. 1st, subscribed. 2nd, more pics of your z and love to see what you're doing with the front end. 3rd, what engine you running? 4th, wheels? Reminds me of this extremely well executed Norwegian Z I found pics of a few years ago. Absolutely love the attention to detail on both front & rear and how they so cleanly transition to the flares! Do you know the owner?
  3. Think it's called the 'grab handle' [passenger door]. Sorry, I do not have a spare...
  4. Warm weather today, lots of car stuff. Made a custom pigtail for the replacement Focus SVT horns [poor connector design by someone, allows moisture to collect & corrode], got those installed, polished the hazed headlight and installed the replacement clutch position switch [cruise doesn't work without it]. Done with the daily driver, onto the Z! Installed the MSA fiberglass rear bumper, had to use a spacer on both ends where they mount to the lower quarter panels as the brackets were just not going to bend enought to make it. Had to drop the tank to get to the right side-plus i found a small amount of inner sheet metal about 4" below the marker light that was dented in from the accident which was not repaired and figured if i didn't close it off i'd get the dreaded cockpit fumes. So, tank down I carefully hammered, using a large drift, the metal back toward the corner of the car [directly behind the corner of rear bumper]. Once completed I was able to seal the small gap with some caulk. With that sealed, back goes the tank, exhaust, right rear wheel, pull the jack stands and git her on all fours again! Done for now. Still need to finish replacing all the interior trim I removed but will get to that another day. Anyway, she's looking pretty good and will be ready for my first track event May 3-5th at Watkins Glen with the BMW club.
  5. To be clear do you need the interior door handle [lower part of the door, pull handle to open, chrome with black strip down middle?]
  6. Love the wrinkle black finish, get them installed and post the pic!
  7. Yet another great virtual 'ride along'-thanks for sharing and a nice piece-o-driving to boot Matt!
  8. Picked up the z on Tuesday this week [3/12/13], trailered her home to begin the re-assembly. They did a real nice job on the body and matching the paint [base white then clear with platinum pearl-custom color which I was thrilled they were able to closely match as it was painted in 1990 when I was stationed in Pensacola, FL]. Wrinkle on left quarter fixed, double crease from light blue guard rail massaged out, lower finisher also fixed. They blended the paint nearly to the door jamb-hard to tell where it ends. Almost no putty as the body guy is pretty skilled in 'panel beating' as you can see. Some initial pics inside my garage...

    Watkins Glen HPDE wreck 7/2012

tapped the wall, drivers right at the top of the esses. got a bid too wide, into the marbles-could have been much worse...
  10. Matt, for me the thrill is do the most possible with what I have. The z is antiquated and, in my opinion, challenging to drive fast as compared to new[er] vehicles. I've had many passengers in my car over the years and occasionally let other instructors drive who comment, "amazing how fast you're able to drive this car-it's a wrestling match" or something similar. I smile and say, it is indeed and take great pride in the fact that I do it on street tires with no electronic aids. Guess if I wanted to go faster I would get dedicated track wheels & tires, a trailer to put them or the z on and possibly a tow vehicle. But...that would require more $$$ outlay and take up more space in my tight 2 car garage. With a 17 & 15 year old at home and college on the horizon [my son Alan leaves this summer] the $$$ are going to the college and not to my hobby-at least for now!
  11. Neck still sore and limited 'range of motion' so back to the doc. Picked up the replacement focus or what i now call SVTF II. Pics... Same year, make, model, color + factory HID's and sunroof.
