Also depends which T56. Aftermarket GM is 27" + 6.290 bell housing (adapter + T5 bell), 93-97 LT1 is 26.4" + 4.882" bell, 98-00 is 26.4 + 5.531 bell. All are 27 rear spline. Best to take acccurate drive shaft yoke to yoke measurements after the engine and trans are bolted up. John

I'm so right handed I can't even scratch my &$$ with my left! I can't imagine piloting a Fairlady, or any right hand drive with a stick, though I'm sure watching me would be worth a few laughs. I entered in a contest for a right drive Silva. If I win, I'll sell it to you. John

I had no idea this topic would generate this much of a response. I’m sure most would agree, the overall intuition of staff and seasoned members is typically in check. Back when I was moderating, HybridZ had a membership in the low hundreds resulting in a relatively easy task of removing a profanity, racist remark, moving a post here or there, and reminding a member or two to behave. As always, when things got out of hand, Mike Kelly would step in, lay down the law, and after fair warning kick the offending member out on his proverbial @$$. Now, with ten times the membership, moderators and administrators have an overwhelmingly large number of threads to follow. Maintaining a higher standard than most car forums certainly is a benefit for those serious about gleaning information. I participate in a few other forums some with much more worldwide participation. Since they are based in English, tolerance is high since errors in translation, grammar, syntax, spelling are common. If my next statement breeches the political rule please remove, but I believe our nation is changing in language and the way we communicate as well. I would hate to alienate a new member with pertinent information just because of a slight language barrier or their style of communication. Admittedly, since I tend to scan posts rather than read them word for word, I don’t always see the outcome of a thread. After reading the recent post, mercifully put in the Tool shed, I will rescind some of what I stated, and apologize for taking so much space. Perhaps its time for this thread to find its way in the ol’ tool shed as well and make room for more relevant information. John

...and Never ever end a sentence with a preposition...etc. Where do you draw the line? If we were handing in papers for school, some of our most valued posts would be lost. If you can stop the demise of the English language in this site, more power to you. My grade school gramatical pet peeves are now overun by the majority of Americans, and since majority rules, I figure I might as well accept it. .Your cause is noble, I just think some are receiving a hard time for doing their best.

I feel a few of the comments to other members have been harsh with regard to their ability to use the English language. Is this is English comp 101, or a forum of car enthusiasts? Not everyone here is going to have a perfect mastering of the English language, let alone the spelling. If the post is truly unintelligible or with unfamiliar slang and short cuts, then I'd agree with most of the suggestions to be more clear. Is English your second language? You’re not from the USA? I admire anyone willing to post even though they are unfamiliar with English. "Where are you at", "He left with her and I ", "I seen it", The car ran poor" are all incorrect. Where do you draw the line? Personally, spelling was never one of my strong points and I’m constantly being corrected, grammatically, by University English professors within my family. It gets real old.. If we get the gist of the topic and the writing doesn't undermine the value of the post, then put away the red pen and lighten up. ... John

Q-Jet power piston plug, in search of idears.
John Scott replied to a topic in Gen I & II Chevy V8 Tech Board
Wow, this a blast from the past. I drilled a small diam. hole down slightly in the plug. When I wanted it out I threaded a small screw in and popped it out. I hated when I didn't reference the turns and got the whole thing outa whack. John -
The reverse solenoid is a good thing to have. Prevents a potentially catastophic tranny failure and maybe your car along with it.. Imagine shifting into revese instead of grabbing fifth. I wired mine into a small microswitch near the shifter. If you don't have chevy parts electrical pig tail # 12085485, 12101857 is for the reverse light switch. Another friend used a B&M shifter with the switch on the handle. True you can "crash" through it if necessary, but why not have it there? Isn't reverse lock out required by NHRA tech inspection??

Tune it by density Altitude!
John Scott replied to John Scott's topic in Trouble Shooting / General Engine
Cool, literally, but our density altitude is @ 1152 right now, 93% of sea level. Too bad its snowing. -6F, dew point -13F, 30.09. I could be out with 93% of normal seal level horsepower. Probably even better tomorrow morning as the humidity drops and the temps to -teens. Racing season should be in the winter! Oh well, put another log on the fire. John -

I love driving the $#!+ out my car, but there is a time and place for everything. Top end adventures can rank as, sorry to say, the dumbest most reckless things you can do in a Z. The thrill isn't worth the risk. Yours and most engines on this site will push a Z lots faster than it should. Zs are notoriously poor on the aerodynamic side and flying down the road at 160+ and then leaving the pavement is going to be ugly. Just don't take anyone, or involve other innocent drivers along with you on your last ride. Nothing against you personally. Just would like to avoid losing a member on a thrill ride. John ps. this post has come up quite a few times over the years, even used to do my own bragging. In my case a tension rod came loose the next day. What a pice of $#!+ I would have been killing myself and maybe others just so I could say I did XXXmph. I just hate to see how it gets the next guy/kid wondering how fast his Z will go. I'd rather see or hear about someone blowing away the competition at a sanctioned event. At least if you screw up not as many get involved. If I were king of the forums I'd ban this type of posts.

Sure the speedo isn't reading 120;) Used to have a 65 Olds 442 that would dog track under even light acceleration. One of the rear bushings shot...actually they all were, but one was getting ready to bail. Make sure everyting that should be is tight.John

Somewhat bummed at 450RWHP, 500+rw torque
John Scott replied to silicone boy's topic in Gen I & II Chevy V8 Tech Board
I'd buy that, and especially carburetors...now where did I put my box of Jets? Its also not a fair correction factor to say any guy running 11.79 at high altitude will run a 10.99 at sea level. The guys who travel the circuits in a well prepared car will run hard eveywhere. The engine is capable, but as we've seen with the faster members on the site, power is just the beginning. It takes a lot more tire, suspension mods, beefier parts, and know how to apply the power. Wow, we've come a long way with SiliconeBoy's post. Sorry Ben for hijacking your post. With 4" snow on the roads today we can all feel like Silicone boy's beast on the dry roads, Can't wait to see it. John -

John Scott replied to silicone boy's topic in Gen I & II Chevy V8 Tech Board
Zgad, your car ROCKS! Here is a way I look at it. Lets say you live at sea level and have an engine producing 100 hp. You decide to put a turbo on the motor which produces 15 lb of boost, gaining 100% more hp and now have 200 hp. Your buddy has a NA engine that also makes 200 hp. ROAD TRIP! You end up at Bandimere speedway 6000' above altitude. It’s a good air day, but still only making about 80% power due to the less dense air.. Your buddy’s car is now producing 200 x .8 = 160 hp. Take off the turbo and your engine is making 100 x .8= 80 hp. Put it back on, your turbo has to work harder to push the thin air to 15 psi, but makes 100% more hp = 160 just like the NA motor. I in no way want to discredit any of the sea level results. Going 130+ mph in 10 seconds is the same anywhere, and a 10.73 at Bandimere is a lot slower than 10 flat, even though we might run identical set ups. Enjoy the power. John -

Ben welcome to the world of running HybridZs! The numbers sound great. You're right about the thin air. We're usually down 20+% on horsepower up here. Good friend has low 400 rwhp in his 3000lb camaro and still pulls high tens/122mph at Bandimere. 450 is going to be a handfull on the street! 8 lb of boost is barely flexing, I forsee big #s to come as you get settled in. Would like to drive down and see it in person some day. John -
Somebody be Kind Since I am Trying To Avoid The Obvious
John Scott replied to a topic in Gen I & II Chevy V8 Tech Board
The real obvious places to check would be the simplest. Check the float level(s), pressure to the carb, and any particles in the needle(s) and seat(s)? If too much crud sucking intno the fuel pick up, then you already know the answer. I honestly didn't find dropping the tank that bad. Good luck. John -
Hanns. Tell me the benefits of running an air box over a carb hat. I used a carb hat because: 1) it came with the " then new" universal ATI chevy kit, 2) carb box would have hit my distributor as float bowls almost made contact. Once the carb choke linkage is sealed bowls are pressurized through the vent tubes. Soon after I installed, ATI developed their pressure release valve seen in my personal gallery, which was placed upstream on a piece of rigid steel tubing. I can see parasitic losses through throttle shafts using carb hat and old carb. Any other advantage to the box? Also off topic, what size fuel lines do you run? Any Idea what -8 can support? John
