I have been using a pickle fork with awesome success for 10years but you can also buy or rent a ball joint seperatorpuller. Regards - Yasin

You can get 200RWHP (and more) with a high compression well tuned triple carbed normally aspirated L28 or even use the first generation Diesal Maxima crank and stroke it to 3.1L (if these cars were available in Australia) but you will need strong rods and pistons if you take the compression high (10.5 or 11.0 and beyond). Of if you want you can go with 6 individual throttle bodies which would be awesome (more $$) but you get adjustable and fully prgrammable EFI. L28 Turbo sky is the limit based on how much $$ you have to spend. But 250WRHP is pretty realistic for a well tuned L28 Turbo with larger injectors, larger fuel pump and a decent front mount inetercooler and boost in the 13-15psi range. This engine will phsysically bolt into your 240Z and also your 5speed. All Lexus QuadCam V8s are auto and the Supra manual tranny conversion is fairly popular. RB motors require RB 5 speed. Best bang for your buck? L28 Turbo. Regards - Yasin

Tim - I know some people say some "intercooler is better than none" but that Isuzu unit is tiny and only designed for a small 4cylinder engine. For the time and effort to mount the actual IC and fabricate intercooler piping my opinion would be its not worth it. My suggestion clean it up and put it on eBay if you get $40 for it you have quadrupled your investment and then you can put that money towards an IC better designed for a turbo straight six. At a minimum you should look at the Starion ICs but optimum would be the other great Isuzu IC off the NPR delivery trucks! Hope that helps - Yasin

Wow that is a sweet RWD conversion. Mitsubishi really take the time in their R&D to make strong blocks - insurance for us boost junkies! Dan what RWD carapplication is that 6G72 installed in and what tranny is being used. Thanks - Yasin

Soulfly - I can help you out big time here buddy. Those 17" Shu wheels are marketed by Tenzo Racing and made for them by a company called Denso. They are a FWD offset as Mudge and IanZ pointed out and the exact offset is +42mm. So yes you will need a decent width spacer to bring them back to at least a +20mm. So you will need longer (probably 60mm length)studs for the front only. For the rear these wheels will bolt up to your Z with no problems, although you may want to run a small spacer that way the front is not too badly staggered from the rear and you can run a meaty tire in the back as well to compensate. These wheels are 7" wide as well and weigh about 18-19lbs each. How do I know this stuff? Well let just say I recently bought wheels for my ZX over the past summer I studied 100s of wheels - my friends call me the Rim Doctor. Good luck and I hope that helps. That eBay price is a amazingly low by the way, as these rims normally retails for around $175each Regards - Yasin -
It was on last night again and I have never seen so much bling bling in an hour. Especially Shaq's rides. It was cool to see Funkmaster Flex is into the older muscle cars and not only Escalades sitting on Twizms. Bottom line - these NBA and musicians get payed waaay too much! (okay so I am a little jealous). Yasin

Awesome site and you have done some fantastic work on the car. I just book marked it for further reference to. I really like the Stanza mirrors and welding the headlight buckets. Good luck! The car will be awesome when its completed! Regards - Yasin

Jamie - talking from a spectator's point of view - I prefer to see a street tire class car that lines up at the tree and runs a hot time. Its neat to see tubbed and tube frame cars but most racers can relate to the street tire class cars as it closely represents the cars they actually drive on a day to day basis. I think this is important if you want to showcase your work and shop - that way the car can be your business card. Yes Nismo are offering the VG35 as 450hp crate set-up - which I think is neat - this might just be the ticket? Not sure on the pricing though. Hope that helps and thats my 2Cents - Good luck Regards - Yasin

Starion/Conquest wheel sizes
slownrusty replied to a topic in Brakes, Wheels, Suspension and Chassis
Phil - The Starions that were the post '87 models had the sweet 16x7 wheels in the front and 16x8 in the rear. The pre '87s had the smaller 15" wheels. All the 16" wheels are 5 lugs so you would have to do a lug conversion or buy an adapter to fit our Z 4x114.3mm lug spacing. Hope that helps ya out buddy - Regards - Yasin -
I am a big Toyota fan and know alot about these cars. The best engine conversion I have seen is the 2JZGTE out of the last generation Twin Turbo Supras. However in terms of keeping it practical and cost effective, the 7MGTE from the 3rd Gen Supras would be awesome - 230hp stock, with 300hp capability very easily. That way you also get to keep your stock 7.5" rear end, tranny and motor mount fabrication will be alot less than putting a V8 in the car. Take a look at www.toysport.com, they put the Supra turbo engine in your car (except it was the convertible Windchaser model). The 22RTE from the 4Runner pickups would be pretty awesome too. They are strong bullish engines when built will easily turn out 250hp, which is alot of power in your car. And the best part no fabrication req'd. Hope that helps! Yasin

TimZ - Jeff mentionted that the CSI pump will be in the $230 range if you read his website. Regards - Yasin
-
Jeff - that pump looks like it will do the trick, I am impressed by how low profile it actually is. And when you do get around to getting it installed please let us know. You definately make a valid point about the L28 having problems warming up in the cold, so having the pump on a thermotime switch would be ideal. I know ytou have had problems with your car running hot in the CA summer, so hopefully this pump comboined with the twin electric fan will be the trick. When I saw your car at the MSA show this year, you were running the OE clutch fan with shrowd and you mentioned that the engine was getting pretty warm with that long line to get into the show. Looking forward to hearing the outcome of the CSI install and your new custom x-flow rad. Regards - Yasin

Alan T - Thanks very much I received the pic - awesome and considering the pic was taken back in 1986 its EXTREMELY impressive. Looks like a monster. Thanks again. BTW - what is the Z following like in the UK, I lived there in the late '70s to mid '80s and most people used to laugh (unforunately) at Datsun, especially when the 280ZX and 300ZX (Z31) came out. I think the UK journalists were way too critical and seemed to only want to praise their home market Capri 2.8i and also the Alfa GTV was a fav. Seems like there are quite a few older Zs that appear for the Japanese Auto Extravaganza during the summer. Oh well - Yasin Hoping to make a visit to England this year.

Alex - I got the 90 and 45 degree mandrels last week - they look great - thanks! I will soon start putting it all together - and I am looking forward to finally getting that IC in the car. Regards - Yasin
-
Cool Tim - Congrats on a sweet and cheap find, I am sure in absolutely no time you will be making it into a monster! P.S: Sleeping on the couch is not sooo bad Keep us posted as your work on the car progresses. Regards - Yasin

Hi Alan T HS30 - H - I enjoyed reading your recount of being in Japan in the '80s and being around the tuners back then. I think it would have been fascinating to be in Japan during this period as Turbo and EFI technology was growing and the "tuners" were getting a grip on how to make power with these new found break throughs in engine development. I am sure you must have thouroughly enjoyed your stint while over there. I would also greatly appreicate if you could email me some pictures of the OK Giken Twin Turbo set-up - if you don't mind. My email address is slownrusty@yahoo.com Thanks in adavance - Yasin

Ron R - Thats a mean looking 7MGTE in that Supra - VERY MEAN!!! Yasin

That is absolutely amazing - WOW! Which Straight Six Engine is that going to find a home on? I am impressed - man I wish I had a fraction of that talent. Most people make engines "Go" I make them "STOP" - UG! Keep the sweet pics coming and keep up the great work. Regards - Yasin

Lookin for rim opinion. Please help
slownrusty replied to ZR8ED's topic in Brakes, Wheels, Suspension and Chassis
ZR8ED - I say bite the bullet and get the 17s they would compliment your car perfectly. 15s would be too small esp. with the way the black paint and the fender flares flow on your car, the car is aching for a larger wheel. Yasin -
If the price is right and you can afford I say go for it buddy. Having a cross flow twin cam head (4valve) that can breathe will make all the difference. Let us know how it works out and good find. HA! you are making us all jealous. The stock OS Giken head made about 30 more hp than the factory L24 head. So imagine if your motor was worked and was pretty hot or even turbo charged - WOW! Regards - Yasin
