  1. have you made inquiry into registration.Im not sure what you are allowed without enginering. In QLD we are allowed 4.4 L with an inspection ,but no enginering needed. I believe this was intended for the 4.2 v8 holden engine. Ive seen some 1uz's with eaton 90's and was thinking it may be a good idea but from the looks it would come through the bonet ,may be ok in a rod, but i think the cops would hate it. col
  2. Glad there is a few zx'es out there.Ive painted a few cars and also feel the pro's do a good job for the money, but its nice to think you have done most of the work yourself ,I dont know it just feels better. On you for having a go and the finish gets much better each time.Has anyone seen a T top with the big twin stripes or does it clash with the dark panels in the roof? col
  3. Hi I think we have changed this thread a lot. I understood the question was about street tyres not slicks on cars runing huge camber setings.stiff walled slicks with heaps of camber puting the tyre in full contact with the road through corners when you need the traction they ,scrub the inside in a straight line puting more heat on the inside even after a hot lap driving into the pits the inside will be kept a bit hoter .If we are talking about road tyres on a road car with less camber the temp's should be much more even.If your road tyres get that much hotter on the inside you are going to have uneven wear problems. col
  4. Hi i agree with most of what john is saying even with road tyres ,an even temp means even tyre wear ,f you have a tyre capable of more girp why not use it.Sure good times can be got with a really wide tyre working on one side but it is capable of even better times using the whole tyre.Road tyres ,while not like slicks, still need to get to temp, lower pressure more heat simple as that. As far as stiff sidewalls i agree stiff is good for 2 main reasons ,they have less flex and this lets us run lower pressure for more heat, but still let you increace pres if they get too hot. Many years ago i raced a xu1 style torana ,I had no money and everything was on a budget ,so we did what we could with normal street tyres .everything was seat of the pants,we had thin sidewals ,so we would stretch195 tyres on 9" rims and played with pressures to get the best compromise between grip and flex.Doing this can teach how important tyre pressure is.but back to the first string wide soft tyres can be great on the road dry but over wide tyres no matter how soft will be bad in the wet. col
  5. From what ive been told the diferent sumps indicate that the engine is either a late or early model and they have diferent hp ratings(let me know if im wrong) I see in your pictures that at the moment you are using an auto, will you be changing to manual later? There are kits for w series boxes and r154 from toyota supra turbo. col
  6. in reference to the tyre area in contact with the road I must disagree If you need more surface in contact with the road with a lighter car simply use lower tyre pressure. It is however better to use softer compounds the wider you go col.
  7. I agree the tyre quality makes a huge diference.a narower tyre with better compound (and tread design)will out perform a wider one of inferior quality any day.I love wide tyres but only buy the best tou can afford(and afford to replace if its more than a show pony)The thing nobody seems to be concidering is geomitary .finding the right camber caster toe out front and rear can and will make or brake your cars ability to grip the road and get a good life from the rather large investment in good tyres. col
  8. Hi Im from QLD AUS i have a 280zx and am vrey interested in details of your conversion .are you going manual?which box?Ive priced a kit to fit a man box but it was about $1750.00 do you knowof any cheaper ones?thanks col (belhousing/flywheel/etc kit from dellows engineering)

  13. Hi Im not sure if its ok to ask a question here thats about something a bit diferent, but here goes .I would like to run a v8 and am concerned that the weight will cause handling problems.my car is a std 280zx old tyres old suspension etc it handles surprisingly good ,if you brake late and feed throttle through corner it just flattens and grips.new bushes and low profile tyres can only make it better. Will a v8 ruin this? Can you change anything to compensate? Thanks col., i.
  14. Hi Im col from Australia. In QLD Aus we can put 4.4l engines in 280's without engineering ,any bigger costs big bucks.Im concidering lexus 4.0l quad cam v8 anyone have info on this conversion?.Does the extra weight in the front affect handling?

    thanks for the info col

  19. will the ms soon be able to drive ig/coils direct from computer using the high current drivers that they sell? I am not confident enough to build a ms but as they sell completed units i feel fine about wiring and tuning do you still sugest i use a name brand if i cant understand the internals ? thanks.col
