Where is the ban hammer when you need it? Shame on you sir. Tony D is not a personality to be trifled with. ESPECIALLY since he is RIGHT! The proper response to a public lashing of your own invention is to humbly apologize for your ignorance. Not waving your "My gene pool needs chlorine... which will also be disposed of improperly" flag around. And now I have stepped out of line... meh. Joe

I've done a horrible thing.... I've driven a Mercedes. Can I be forgiven?

http://sandiego.craigslist.org/csd/cto/1512230274.html Found this browsing CL today, If only i had the room, the time, and the money... But it is the 190e at least, and its cheap! So Just passing it along. Joe -
I posted it in the wrong forum? Ooops, I thought i put it in non tech to begin with...

any regrets after shaving drip rails?
JoeinCA replied to adam78280z's topic in Fabrication / Welding
I did it to my last z. You cant just cut the rail off. You need to have a good shielded gas welder setup. and a torch to take out the lead. I liked the way mine looked, but i put a LOT of time into it, and had every imaginable fabrication tool at my disposal. Its not any fun in the rain either... Made me feel pretty stupid getting rain shot into my eyes at 70 mph. But hey it was my first v8 z it wasnt supposed to be comfortable, it was supposed to be cool! Joe -

Found a K&N filter in a 2000 malibu today! Hopefully someone buys it on craigslist... I was looking for the civic wiper motor for the zed, but I apparently wasnt sure enough, and I think i passed up the right one while i was there... so back to the JY AGAIN.... Maybe I should just start buying seats, it seems like nobody sells them for less than $200 out here. I never knew that the bay area was the place for cheap seats.... Joe

True. I tend to hoard, Ive forced myself to get better though.. but sometimes when you find something cool, you just cant help yourself. I picked up "Atlas Shrugged" the other day, I havent gotten the chance to really sit and read it though... Maybe tomorrow while i wait for the rtv to dry... Joe

95 cavalier weatherstripping installed... not terribly pleased with the fit. Really have to slam the door to get it to close. ive left it shut for 2 days, i will check it out later. if it still is a pain to close.. then back to the jy to find more.. Joe
-
Corrected. Just a long day... battling too tight weatherstrip can be annoying. Add recent experience wih porsche forums, mix with 3rd gen camaro forums (digging for info for friend's cars and such)... anyhow, my bad.

I made my way to the Junkyard today for some weatherstripping. Yanked some from a 95 cadavalier coupe for my doors, and one strip from a jeep cherokee for the hatch. Found a few lengths of monster cable in the process. All in all a sucessful trip. Though the prices at this JY suck... Ecology in Oceanside. 9.95/seal! Findiing the monster cable made it worth it at least. And the 95 cavalier weatherstrip lines up well and all.... but I hope it breaks in some, because the doors are not at all easy to close. And i found some more PO stupidity... covering up things with black duct tape, because cleaning and painting parts is too much trouble. Its lucky i decided to do the w-strip today, caught some cancer starting up under it! Joe

Then twin turbo the v6 in the odyssey, and then add NOS(medical grade) for the cabin.

LOL And I aspire to fatherhood as well.. scary...

The honda Odyssey is a great van. but i'm never sure if i spell it correctly. Davy... I have seen soooo many nice cars destroyed by children. Think S55 AMG with holes in the leather in the back seats.... and mms stuffed in those holes. Or even my mother's 68 chevelle, had just gotten the interior redone, and my cousin cuts the headliner with a pocket knife. Dogs are so much neater, and its not weird to have them on a leash. Joe

http://www.scribd.com/doc/21730289/Manual-Suzuki-GS750 Go get the bike you already own. Register it, rebuild the carbs, buy a few tuning tools, check your voltage regulator, rectifier, and alternator. http://www.thegsresources.com/gs_links.htm http://www.thegsresources.com/_forum/index.php You got the bike for pennies. Put some time and a little money into it. Put the money you were going to spend on a new(er) bike into savings or investments or saftey gear. Dont neglect the braking system or the tires. This way you will learn a lot, and have the satisfaction of riding around a bike you resurrected. And if you drop it you wont be damaging a 5-10k bike. Joe

78Z Grumpy is the chevy engine guru here. Reading even a little bit would have alerted you to this. I'm not always the brightest crayon in the knife drawer... But if you really are serious about doing extensive automotive restification, you really are going to have to step it up in the information gathering department. look here: http://forums.hybridz.org/forumdisplay.php?f=61 And here: http://forums.hybridz.org/forumdisplay.php?s=&daysprune=-1&f=94 And finally...: http://forums.hybridz.org/search.php Brace the hell out of it (tack weld many braces to it before cutting anything out.) engine and trans will get in your way. Ideally, rotisseried for easy welding and metal prep, dont set it on fire, take as much out as you can. If you do not know what you are doing, read write ups from people who have done what you are doing, read as many as you can find, and learn from thier mistakes and successes. In depth fabrication work is not for the feint of heart... Sorry if I came off as a bit rude, my brain hurts, Joe

The reasonable advice to a person who is relatively new and inexperienced at riding motorcycles is not to show pictures of cool naked bikes that have way more power than an inexperienced rider needs... You will drop your first motorcycle quite a few times, you will probably drop your second motorcycle a couple of times. What you need is a motorcycle that will teach you to respect the danger of riding, rather than a motorcycle that will basically shoot you in the face when you make a mistake. But hey, Ive only been riding for 10 years, what the hell do I know? Safety last. "Geewhiz thats cool" is much more important... right? Joe

Johnc, whats worse about it... Dont the BMWs get free service while they are under warranty? I think they have for the past 4 or more years now. Thats just dumb. Also, most of the german cars are running something around 10k service intervals. At $300 or more per service though.... I worked for mercedes for a while. Stupid high service prices. They do hold a LOT of the mobil 1 though. And i recall the services being around $600 for the minor service. anyhow... uh yeah. Joe

My girlfriend took me to the K1 speed track today (she is awesome!), and I had a blast. They run 20 hp electric karts, which are pretty quick, and are a heck of a lot of fun. I took 3rd on my frist time on the track, behind a pair of brothers on thier 16th time on the track. Soooo much fun. I didnt really think it was possible, but i managed to get the tires too hot and the grip went away on me. Anyhow, It would be great fun to get a hbz meet going on there, and maybe a little race series. Make sure to collect as many san diego clipper coupon books as you can, because they have a buy one get one free coupon. So have any of you guys been to this track? http://www.k1speed.com/carlsbad-location.html

Start with a cheap, but mechanically sound motorcycle. Something that you won't be scared to drop. Take a Motorcycle safety course. You do not want something that can bring the front tire up until you have lots and lots and lots of experience, and even then, you should still keep the front tire down. I personally avoid Snell approved helmets. see here : http://www.motorcyclistonline.com/gearbox/motorcycle_helmet_review/index.html Get good riding gear. Good protective gear is a MUST. Be anal retentive about maintenance. Catastrophic parts failures will kill you. Other drivers can kill you, you can kill you. I rode a motorcycle every day for years. I commuted 45 miles each way in peak traffic to san francisco for a long time on a cbr954. Riding a motorcycle is many times more dangerous than driving a car. Get life insurance, and dont use it. So, my vote is to buy a small, 800cc or less, non sport bike. Something that you are confortable on. Or go get the old one you already own, take a road trip with a buddy that owns a pickup truck. Good luck, and be safe out there. Joe

I dont have self-esteem problems. I just like to make myself the brunt of the joke sometimes. You can get away with much racier humor that way, and nobody gets thier feelings hurt. Anyhow. just looking to share some sillyness, not get into psychoanalysis. Joe

Recently, at the local flea market, a friend insisted upon buying me a cheap pair of ridiculous sunglasses, insisting that they "look great". I, not being one to be deterred by the amount of silly that these glasses contain, agreed to wear them. I have discovered that I am a baseless junky for self depricating humour, and am altogether odd. The scope of my mental discord cannot be contained by conventional or unconventional means, and the people around me simply have to deal with the embarrasment associated with my presence. From equating every day oddities to imaginary scenes in an imaginary midget porn flick in public, to feeling the need to spend large portions of the day speaking with an accent or in strange voices, I even cannot predict my next bout of inanity/insanity. ANYWAYS, some times there are cameras around, and occasionally I run across a random picture of myself being...well... me. So back to the sunglasses, this is a picture of me, with a large papaya, apparently doing the heisman pose? Does anyone else regularly embarass themselves simply because you think its funny?
