  1. I gapped them when I first got the car and on several occasions cleaned them with a stainless brush even though they looked fairly clean. I will be checking on the ground again. Thats one reason I removed the battery tray, the carwas grounded to rust... I did a temp fix on ground but I think I can find something that would ground better. Also, there isnt any miss. All cylinders are getting fuel and firing. Heres the picture of the intake. Also got this in the mail today. Obviously wont be going on the car, Im just collecting parts.. It is kind of cool to feel it work. Just blow in one end with the screw tighter, screw out a bit and psst! I was wanting to make my own but I could NOT find any of the things at home depot or lowes. I was really suprised. I doubt I would have saved much but it was worth the try..
  2. Wow, looks nice and secluded. Nice looking fence, I need to get over to my grandparents to finish theirs this weekend.. I guess this can be a post a picture of your house thread? You can see the 81 on the side of the garage, the 78 is in the garage. Were building up a car lot, Rav4, Chysler, Saturn Vue, ZX, Z....
  3. Doesnt it expand to 3 inches? Seems like the opening is ~2 and the exit is about 3 inches.
  4. Added the link. Also, looks like most of the rest of the car isnt very outrageous. Just the rear end.
  5. Anyone seen anything else about this car? Found it on google. Heres the link... http://www.motorcities.com/media/images/640/08H5H261602949AE.jpeg
  6. Yeah, I wont be running an intercooler for a while. I wasnt really making this to work with an intercooler. I was just mentioning reasons to remove the stock airbox... When I run an intercooler Ill probably just scrap this since the filter is all I would still need Im not out of any money. Any way to look at your setup. I was looking at some of your pictures and couldnt really see the intercooler piping route. Also changed the title to "quick n' easy" rather than "cheap n' easy" since it really isnt that much cheaper. Buuutttt it was alot quicker then getting something off ebay and waiting for it to get here. I needed to drive my car (safely with a real filter) and this allowed me to.
  7. I only saw the non turbo intakes on ebay. I remember seeing the turbo ones awhile back but nothing now. I suppose it wouldnt have cost much more to just get the ebay one. I think it took me a couple hours but you could do it much quicker if you were a good welder. You could definitely do it in under an hour. I thought it was fun to make and thats what matters to me. I like making my own stuff rather than buying it (when I can).
  8. In an effort to clean up my engine bay I found my stock air intake box off quite quickly. This is also a large obstruction for an intercooler if you choose that route. So I decided to replace my panty hose air filter with a real one. (was there just so stuff didnt get in the afm...) Heres the stock intake box. I used a chop saw to cut approximately 2.5 inches from the inside of the intake bend. Bought a 3 OD to 3 IN adaptor at autozone. Turns out it would have been better to use the smaller end to slip into the original bend being that most cone filters are made to accept a 3 inch OD tubing. I did it the opposite way but it still works fine, it just would have worked better the other way. If you notice the crimp was ground down to allow the pipe to fit in snug. Blends in fairly well with the bend. Weld it up. Forgive the bad welds, I just started welding again after 2-3 years of down time, and I think my regulator is on its last leg... Welds ground down and it installed without the filter. Another angle. Super high performance cone filter installed. Overall it is pretty easy to do if you have a welder, chop saw, and an angle grinder. Dont have these? Go buy a CAI off ebay. It would have been easier If I could have found a nice piece of 3 inch mandrel bent exhaust tubing but I wasnt able to.
  9. Thanks, but Im gonna work on the car a little more and see if Its something else. Ill let you know soon. Right now Im gonna try and finish my intake. I had pulled off the stock airbox and would like to replace the panty hose I put over the afm... Ill post some pictures of how it worked out.
  10. Yeah, I got what he was saying. I really dont know why I mentioned the thing about the intake... I guess I was just waking up. Yeah I have done what you mentioned with the spark plug wires. Ill have to do it again now that it seems like it is missing. And yes I have been shocked a couple times. Also, a couple times Ive been slightly shocked by just touching the wires. Does this mean that the wire shielding is going bad? They look somewhat new so it kind of puzzled me. Could be that the wires are shorting out and loosing spark intermittently.
  11. Well removing the injector plugs is pretty easy. I can get the intake/fuel rail off in about 15 minutes. Alot quicker then before. I dont really want to drive it much and get stuck on the other side of town with a dead engine. But yeah Im hoping to have this weekend free where we can get together and figure this thing out. Ill let you know later this week. Aaron, I think I mentioned I planned on recirculating. I might actually be ditching the dsm bov to get something adjustable. Im having a hard time figuring out exactly where it will relieve pressure. I actually have someone einterested in the BOV and if I sell it I will have made $15... not bad.
  12. So I got it all back together and it started right up. At first it was a little rough then I noticed the one vacume port I had left open for a BOV signal, put my finger over it and it idled fine. Took it out for a drive and was pretty easy on it, stayed close to or below 0 boost. Stepped on it a couple times for just a second and it seemed to pull fine, I got out of it pretty quick just to be safe. After a little while it started hesitating and would shake pretty bad if you revved it up. Now it doesnt want to idle nicely like before. Really has me stumped. Could this shaking be a miss on one of the cylinders? I did check the ecu connections, they were all clean. Also I had removed the air regulator and your left with a plug the same style as the fuel injectors. Can I just leave that as is or does it affect the ecu being that it isnt connected to anything? Last question, I looked into the fuel pressure test kits and gauges. A good gauges is about 15-20 dollars more than the tester. Im considering getting one hooked up so I can see what is going on. Im getting some grey smoke in the higher rpms that I believe to be fuel related. If I can see the fuel pressure as I rev it, might show if my fuel pump is still good, there are obstructions in the lines, fpr, etc. Does this sound like a good idea?
  13. Later ones he drove an audi right? I noticed every other scene they showed the car the V8 emblem in the grill would appear and disappear.... bugged me..
