How much trouble has your Z/ZX gotten you into?
Challenger replied to Challenger's topic in Non Tech Board
Yeah brian, want to elaborate any? I was pissed for $300 in one week on tickets. I guess it can always be worse... Yeah I guess I should have specified "running z/zx". Makes a big difference. My 78 has never really "ran" so it has always kept me out of trouble. Unlike the ZX which has always been drivable. -
why won't my intake manifold come off?
Challenger replied to turbojohnny's topic in S30 Series - 240z, 260z, 280z
The intakes probably been on there a long time. It begins to bond to the gasket after awhile... Just work with it. The spacer/washers under the intake arent required to remove the intake but its alot easier. -
Sorry for the poor picture... Decided to make it one color since the fenders had been repainted at one point and they were speckled with about 6 different colors. Also cleaned the wheels. No idea they would actually clean up that nice.

Removing Intake/exhaust Manifold - Help!!!
Challenger replied to WreZ's topic in S130 Series - 280ZX
What kind of exhaust? There are different versions. -
Anyone considered doing something like this on their ZX? I think it would fit the ZX better than the Z since the ZX is a little boxier. I was thinking something like the mustangs scoops made out of sheet metal. How do you think it would look? Obviously it wouldnt be functional.

Well I wont be driving the car for awhile. Not sure how long... Last thursday, I was bored at school after being there all day. It was about 10pm and a few of us went outside into the parking lot to have some fun. I was the only rear wheel drive car so I did the best doughnuts for about 10 min (yeah way to long). I pull over to let the car cool down and a foreign exchange student gets out there to do some reverse doughnuts. About 5 seconds after he starts the security comes over and flips on their lights. I slowly hopped in my car just as the kid points to me saying I was showing him how to do it. Go to start my car and it dies cause theres no idle screw, security starts walking over to me yelling get out and like a normal 18 year old I started it again and stepped on the gas... Anyways, the kid gave them my number, first name, and that I was in physics with him... so they knew exactly who it was. They called me the next day on my home phone even though they were given my cell, I went in and obviously they were very pissed off. The one guy who turns out was an actual cop doing side jobs was wanting to charge me with reckless driving, endangermeant (people had come outside and were watching from the grass), and then destruction of property (skid marks). It ended up the dean wasnt to worried about it being that I was very apologetic but the other guy warned me that he lives in the same area as me so I better not screw around... So they let me off with a warning. I had told my parents friday about it assuming I was screwed so they took the keys and I have no idea how long till Ill get to drive it again. Although it wasnt the time or place, or the proper reaction for what I did, it was ALOT of fun. Anyways, I am not banned from working on the car so I was able to mount the gauges this afternoon. I got the gauge pod thing from shucks for $7 which was a great deal being that I was going to do it out of metal myself. Saved alot of time and is alot nicer. I did fix the fact that they both arent level. Looks better now. Also any reccomendations on how to not get one of these stolen? I imagine no one will want to cut a fuel line pressurized to about 30 psi but I can see some one ripping the boost gauge off (its easy to remove). Better view from the drivers position. My dad wanted me to move it off the road so I got to start it for a minute. The fuel pressure is at about 30 at idle. That about right? Ill have to wait and see if the boost gauge works fine (make sure no leaks) and see how high fuel pressure goes at boost.

Just wait till this shows up in fast and the furious. Youll see these all over town. I think its cool, reminds me of the superbirds and daytonas, just on the other end.

I wouldnt go strait to your turbo being bad...

Removing Intake/exhaust Manifold - Help!!!
Challenger replied to WreZ's topic in S130 Series - 280ZX
Try the bolt route than block off the egr port on the intake manifold. 2 ways, bolt a plate on top or cut off the port and weld on a cap. (metal weld or JB weld your choice) If you need a really easy method for plugging the egr bung. Pull the original tube and just bend it over and smash the crap out of the bent edge. Heat it enough and hammer hard enough and it will seal pretty permanently, but I would reccomend running it as a complete fix. -
Just curious. I drove a RAV4, Suburban, Saturn Vue or a minivan for almost 2.5 years... never a single ticket, no trouble, period. I get my 280zxt and bam 2 tickets in 2 or 3 days... almost wreckless endangerment for donuts at 10pm at the community college (also the ZX happened to start and drive off as the security told me to get out of the car..) Luckily, 1 was for tabs (doesnt affect insurance), other was speeding (attended traffic school, no affect on insurance) and the donuts I just got a warning.. Im really curious if this is somewhat normal or if I am just unable to control myself... I remember a couple old threads where someone (I believe it was Prox) mentioned he got 3 tickets in a week, so I dont feel quite alone. So, how much trouble has your car gotten you into or gotten you out of?

Cracked pistons?? Might have issues besides a little oil in the intake. I assume all of the PCV are hooked up in their original locations? As you probably noticed, the PCV system is pretty simple. Valve cover to afm boot, and crank breather to the bottom of the intake. So there really arent many sneaky things that can be wrong with the system ITSELF. Do the fins on the turbo look oily, maybe its impossible to tell. Its really important to know if its coming through the turbo, or from the turbo. As for the turbo to J pipe boot, a vacume leak is a vacume leak. That could be your idle problem, will probably help you build more boost as well (you wont be bleeding it off anymore). As for a way to see if its the valve cover, Im not sure. My best guess would to like stravi mentioned pull the tube off and start the car. (plug the afm boot first) Im not sure if the oil can be drawn in only by the higher pressure of the block, it might be neccesary to have the greater pressure difference with the pressurized block and vacume of the afm tube. Lastly, about how much oil is there? Pools, or just a mist? Is it gungy like its been exposed to hot gases (from the crank case) or does it look somewhat fresh like it came from the turbo?

Was the thread about some guy that made a custom front and rear bumper? He was *going* to make molds and start selling them.

I think for a valve cover most paints will be fine. Most are like 250 degree paints. It might work ok to do it in layers. High temp on the bottom, then olive on the top. That color does look sweet.

Count me in too. To bad they dont have anything in the 30mm+ range...

Ive got one for $100 if you want. Its in perfect shape. Completely stripped down, just the bare aluminum, completely stock. Let me know if youd like it.
-
My guess is he edited it because someone said it was a good deal... now he can hopefully get more money for it.
-
Yeah, I asked him for pics but nooooooooooooo..... never got any..

Glad you found it. Im suprised at 100 psi id didnt pop out. Good thing to do if your having fp issues is hook up an air compressor to the return line. Bubbling noise is good.

Yeah I sold my ecu cover so now I can push in the ecu plugs every once in awhile just in case..

Welcome back. Im also curious If I could do as well as your car is. My turbo engine is still in the donor car... I wonder how much of a difference the extra weight of the ZX would make. Only thing I raced was my friends 5.0 and my car kept up. Hope you get it all back together. But remember, get whatever kind of car youll enjoy. We might hate you for selling your Z but youll be happier.

Hey 3 year bump! Anyone have more info on the ZX above? That looks awesome! Looks like fiberglass.
