Funny you brought this up I coincidentally bought a new boot to replace a ripped one on the shafts and unfortunately did not come with any hardware, other than a little grease bag for the cv's. I got robbed! haha NICE! thanks a bunch rebekah! kudos for a helping hand

Hi everyone, recently I had to rebuild my 87 300zx turbo Z31t shafts for my 240z ; however, on one of the shafts one of the little metal C looking clip/lock/retainer broke into pieces as i took the shaft apart. The C looking metal retainer is the metal piece that goes on the actual middle shaft that must be pressed or "compressed" with a flat head or some sort in order to RE-assemble the cv's just making this thread since im searching for the specific name for these so i can search online, or in case anyone has some spares they are willing to barter with. attached is a file of what the clip looked like

il re-measure the long onee for sure definitely sounds like i got my measurement wrong on that one. putting them on for some reason was simple enough. yeah i did that i reversed the gear so the (flat) surface bottoms out on the stop shoulder of the spline i figured it would have too much play otherwise. when taking them off however to re sent them to you. it was a pain in the ass taking that bastard off. used a 2x4 on the short one and it came off with two hits, but the longer one had to be forced out with a hammer directly so i got a few hits on the shaft on the way lol. the "snap ring" that goes in the groove on the shaft ended up broken into three pieces so seems like il have to replace that.
-
sweet! yeah that's what i got i think i measured the short one @ 14 13/16 and the longer one at 15 15/16. Are these the desired measurements? Any idea of what those cracks are on the second picture though? :/ kinda threw me off that the other shaft didnt have them.

Sweet just got mine today Just made my day this much better So to confirm, what are the lengths that the correct shafts are supposed to have after the recall on the short ones?
-
Awesome! great news mortensen happy to hear you got good feedback from the manufacturers. So question. we will be shipping you all back the longer shaft and we will be getting the set with both correct heat tempered shafts (for those who payed for the set of two) ?
-
haha nice! hopefully you guys don't encounter either the "too long" or "bending" issues and have long lasting shafts can't wait to roll around on my z soon. lol my dad keeps asking me when im going to get my car started alrady. i get super pissed every time, im like" DAD! the car starts..... it just won't MOVE :'( " hahahaha ahhh the irony....
-
Oh snap! mine did NOT look like these at all. these look nice and burnt so im sure THESE black ones were heat treated and hardened as supposed to be... mine came in super shiny i was like damn! got polished parts for free! ? i guess the machinist "forgot" to heat treat the first batch?..... if so, Fkn great! now we have to send these back as well and wait for the arrival for the new "actual" heat treated ones. lol Standing by for update

Damnit! how long is this going to take? any ideas? any info on whether or not your shafts were also damaged REBEKAH or anyone else?

83 zx parking break on 72 S30
superduner replied to superduner's topic in Brakes, Wheels, Suspension and Chassis
awesome! il try this see how it works. -
hey team, performed the swap on the 72z with the following set up, 83zx rear calipers, late maxima stock rear brackets, stock ebrake cable. Problem is when i pull the ebrake (even all the way back) the rear tires keep spinning and one side BARELY has any tension. Anybody know what needs to be done? do i have to cut the steel wire and make them shorter or tighten the ebrake nut under the tunel? can't have this bad boy rolling down the hill on me one of these days lol
-
Holy Shnapz! this doesn't look too bueno. Stock shaft was fine but aftermarket shaft got twisted? you think one wheel was pushing more power than the other regardless of the lsd? (bad clutches?) Hope noone else has had any issues. Any way, any 411 on the recalled/ updated shafts arrival date? I'm planning on taking my pair of correct lengths shafts when they arrive to a fabricator down in Mexico to get a set of clones done which according to him are made from tempered metal used on SEMI-truck shafts. hahahaha Good luck breaking these bad boys lmao "Can't be too careful now a days right "
-
Yeah exactly it wasn't a big leak but it still leaked. And well, from what I had heard you didn't want ANY leaks on turtle cars haha. So just decided to post about it and confirm if this was normal. Il definitely buy a new one if they're that cheap just to be on the safe side

Electric fan recommendations for s30 L28et
superduner replied to superduner's topic in Nissan L6 Forum
Awesome ! Thanks for the input guys I was at the junkyard today and I bought me a dual 12" fans by bostch, off a high end Benz. I plan on having the automatic one blowing on the intake side and the second switch powered. Your thoughts? -
Hey guys just got 72z running with an 83zxT swap and last thing on the "to do list" is cooling. I removed the stock fan due to the FMIC piping going to the throttle body. Seeking recommendations as to what electric fans from what year, make & model automobile work best on the set up which I could pull from a car in the junk yard? Thanks

Thanks Gollum for the legal advice, well noted. And makes perfect sense that pressure would blow seals however now that the question of whether or not to remove the valve has been answered, the questions of *whether or not on an L28ET should the pcv valve be allowing air to leak into the crank case breather tube when conducting a boost leak test*, remains. example. I hook my custom(home made) took to inject air from a compressor into the turbine and fill the intake system until 10PSI has been reached on the pressure gauge. then i listen for the hissing of air leaks, and the only leak heard is the hissing of the air going into the crank case via the j tube from the pcv valve. Normal? P.s gauge looses psi rather slowly, but a loss of pressure remains none the less

Hey team just curious as to whether or not on an engine swap to an s30 where smog is not required, whether or not the pvc valve could be blocked off? I did a boost leak test on my L28et with FMIC and the only place i noticed i was loosing pressure was air going into j hose that went from the pcv valve to the crank case tube. is this supposed to be normal (leaking) ? if not, would there be any performance consequences with the removal or blocking off of it? Just wondering what others have done in regards to addressing this?

l28et swap running on three cylinders?
superduner replied to burn-t280zt's topic in Trouble Shooting / General Engine
^^^^ I motion.... If the car has been running fine and from a Simple trip to the store the ecu became bad that's no bueno. I don't think that happens regularly. Clean pins with non aggressive sandpaper and or copper brush to clean surface. And make sure your ecu is plugged in appropriately. Might've been bad connection or intermittent circuit. Or maybe you just never swapped ECU's to the appropriate turbo one lol -
Hey guys so after troubleshooting for boost leaks I realized there is a major leak coming from the one of the side rubber seals on the throttle body on my 83 l28ET. I'm referring to the small seals that are supposed to go around the shaft going side to side on the throtle body that is hooked up to the linkage that moves the air gate. Just wondering I anyone knows where they sell these replacement seals online
