  1. If John is too busy to fix it, I'll weld it back up for you. Hope you get it all sorted out soon and back on the 1/4 mile. Mike
  2. Damn. Wonder if he'd be interested in trading me for my 25% complete 240Z project that I've dumped over 4X that amount of money in......
  3. Pics: And one of my new bumper I made for my cherokee last week, just because. Mike
  4. Well, I went ahaead and used the nutserts. Everything went perfectly except for one that didn't pull quite right, and now spins inside the hole. I can see it from the inside though, so I'm going to try to epoxy it in place. After that one I made it a point to crush the living hell out of the rest of them when installing, and they all feel very solid. The rear uppermost nutsert on the back flares needs to have the hole drilled through both outer and inner fenders for it to fit flush with the outside of the body. I didn't do this on the first one and as a result, thats the nutsert that spins now. I also used a thin layer of Gorilla Glue on the nutserts before installing them. This glue expands quite a bit while curing and should seal up any gaps between the body and nutsert. The MSA flares fit up decently. The front flares have a few areas that don't quite sit flush with the fender, but I think they will be OK after I trim the wheel openings in the fender, the extra flex from removing the fender lip should allow the sheetmetal and flare to conform together a little better. It was dark by the time I got finished, so no pictures wrth posting yet. I should have some decent pics up by tommorow. Mike
  5. I'm not too worried about weight reduction since I'm putting in a pretty stout 383. I'm going with both, carpet over bedliner. I'm hoping that the bedliner, applied in a very thick layer, will reduce some of the noise and exhaust heat. Knowing my luck, the heat will just soften it up and make the whole interior smell like freshly applied bedliner..... Mike
  6. I'll have to keep an eye out for that band, Jerry Cantrell kicks a$$. My favorite band to see locally is The Atomic Punks, an early Van Halen tribute band. I highly recomend seeing these guys if you get the chance. I feel really bad about saying this, but these guys play Van Halen songs BETTER than the real Van Halen, or at least the Van Halen I saw in concert last year. Link to the website, check out the videos: http://www.theatomicpunks.com/sect/video.html Mike
  7. I just ordered and received my ZG flares from MSA a few days ago. The gel coat on them is excellent, but I'll be painting them anyway because scratches in paint are a lot easier to repair than scratches in gel coat. I haven't bolted them to the car yet, but initial trial fits seem like they will need some persuasion to bolt up correctly. I'm going to use 1/4"-20 nutserts and stainless allen head fasteners. I'll try to take some pictures of the installation and results when I do it, waiting on the nutserts to show up in the mail first. Mike
  8. Sounds/Looks like the right front started blowing chunks into the federwell, sounding like a mechanical problem. This would exlplain the downshifting rather than breaking in the video. Looks like as soon as it actually blew out, it pulled hard to the right I'm definitely upgrading to something better than Sumitomo tires before I try anything crazy like this, as well as adding a cage, and an ejection seat if I can find it..... Mike
  9. Yeah, can I get on that list too?
  10. Found this site a few weeks ago, these guys are doing amazing things with flat foam sheeting and electric motors. Among other things, the boat/plane seen in the video. This is the HybridZ of radio control stuff. http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?t=380781 That is one Bad A$$ 350Z, seeing that makes me seriously reconsider ever taking mine for a top speed run when it's finished..... Mike
  11. Geez, even a 5 year old can tell you that it was just the refraction of the planet Venus through a pocket of swamp gas, temporarily charged with positive electrons...... They should get this guy to do the halftime show at the superbowl. Mike
  12. Wow, talk about generous headspace. What kind of Mauser are you shooting? It shouldn't be to difficult to rebarrel if you have a 98 variant. Like they said, probably not too dangerous, especially with a Mauser as they are designed to vent gas from ruptured cases away from your face. The accuracy thing kinda sucks though, might as well get a smoothbore musket with clearances like that . Check http://www.brownells.com and http://www.midwayusa.com for new barrels. They both carry barrels that will match the outside contour of the original military one. Mike
  13. It's probably a very good thing for him that he's not more well known in military circles, I had no clue who this a$$ clown was until seeing this thread. I realize that by being in the military, I have to protect even morons like this. This works out OK at a distance, as long as I dont have to see them or hear them. If I ever met this guy in person though, I'd be obligated to stomp a mud hole in his a$$. Mike
  14. Yeah, it displaces oxygen, as well as disrupting the chemical chain reaction that occurs during fire. Between these two properties, if you take a lungfull of this stuff you will not be a happy person afterwards. I've breathed in just a small concentration and it was enough to nearly make me pass out after the initial panic reaction. Almost feels like breathing in water. Bad stuff. Stick with C02 or ABC extinguishers.
  15. Just re-read the auction, specifically where he says: "remarkably safe for human exposure." Yeah....... Don't believe that for a second. The Navy ships he talks about also are equipped with emergency oxygen producing escape devices (called EEBD's and SEED's) that allow people can use to breath long enough to escape the space if Halon goes off. I don't see him selling any of those.... Mike
  16. Halon will definitely do the trick for putting out fires, but be sure to use it in an open area. If you light that thing off inside a car or other small enclosed space, you probably wouldn't make it out. It also reacts when heated by fire and becomes extremely irritating to breath in even small concentrations. We use banks of large (200 lb. if I remember correctly) cylinders of this on ships in the engineering spaces for fire protection. We accidentally lit one off while doing maintenance on the system, none of us died, but it was a really close call. In short, I would not recomend this for use in a car, unless connected remotely in the engine bay or another unoccupied compartment. Hope this helps, Mike
  17. I've always heard the phrase "Not worth wasting a bullet on" used before, and until now never fully understood what it meant. I think a nice sand wedge or putter would work quite nicely though...... Mike
  18. Sounds like a "Git er done" deal. I was gonna offer up my place as a potential watering hole also, since I'm only about 400 yards off the I-15. Anyhoo, good luck with the bike. Tim, what GT parts did you need? I have some spare time this weekend and might be able to pick them up depending on location. Mike
  19. Flare it. If you don't, you'll kick yourself later.
  20. Never underestimate the high performance capabilities of pine......
  21. That looks Bad A$$! You should do a short write up on how you made that, as I'm sure there are a lot of other guys on here that would love to design and fab up their own parts like that (Me included). Any chance you could post some "in progress" pics? Mike
  22. Yeah, but the military ones are always more fun, because of the potential danger of starting an international incident if your'e overseas.
  23. Wait until you've had some corn for dinner. Trust me on this one. Mike
