in my musical evolution, when I started to listen to Pavement and early RHCP..I got into this band: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SZ-pmMGQOxo my ex-ex-ex-ex-ex-ex-ex girlfriend "borrowed" all their albums from me... never to be seen again.

lol, Gorilla Biscuits, Awesome! Its been years since I heard anything from them. I remember having a bunch of terrible quality cassette tapes of their stuff recorded from my friends vinyl collection. I had no idea what sound quality was then...I just thought thats how it was supposed to sound...LOUD!

Sweet merciful crap! Feel like letting go of a set of wheels? I've been looking for a long time for just the right set! And I thought I was bad.....geez. I have a 15x30 storage building/Shop that at one point in time held two of my three Zs, 6 sets of wheels WITH tires, two complete engines, four transmissions, several complete sets of glass (for Zs, volvos, and Hondas) and boxes and boxes of Z parts from the other 5 Zs that I've parted out over the years. Over the last two years I just started GIVING stuff away, I sat in the shop one day, looked at all my crap, and just said "screw it" I would have never used the stuff, and its just more garbage to move and store at each new city. Totally fun at the time, but I refuse to let my possessions posses me. In the end though it was worth it as I've been able to help several Z people out with parts, local club members, and members here at HybridZ. Plus I managed to totally finance my turbo 240 project by selling some of my harder to find items on Ebay. so...just let me know when your ready to let go of a set of wheels!

Aerodynamics DONATIONS NEEDED!!!
Sparky replied to Mikelly's topic in Windtunnel Test Results and Analysis
I would love to see that happen, but can understand if it doesnt. A direct comparison of the stock valance with the spook followed by the typical MSA air damn would be very interesting. I would also be extremely interested in seeing the effects that some front canards attached to the typical MSA air damn would do. -
thats cool, what does the stencil kit consist of and how does it work?

With that dark silver colour I would go with the Bronze wheels, I think that would be a nice subtle complementing contrast. The silver is just...well silver, and the black wheels, while cool, are not visually exciting enough to go with a dark colour car. I mean you spend all this money on nice wheels just to hide them with a dark colour on a dark car? anywho...either way, those are some nice wheels.

not yet, I know Andrew has been extremely busy lately, but I anticipate that I will see it on my door step by early next week. after that I can bolt it up and double triple check the measurements before we produce them. Sorry that this is taking a bit longer than we first anticipated, but I want to make sure that everything is just right, the last thing that anybody needs is to pay good money for something that doesn't fit properly. anything less than perfect is unacceptable.

excellent progress so far, and your plans for the car sound very classy yet obviously purposeful. Keep the pictures coming, it looks great so far.

Thanks for the info Alan, I had no idea that they were that different, even though it makes total sense that they would be. I would imagine that not many survived, and the ones that did trade rarely and for ridiculous prices... I'm going to put one on my unobtainium wish list doesnt hurt to think and dream big...I hope. fascinating info, and always appreciated, thanks again.

Ditto on that. I must say that it looks amazing, cant wait to see the overall pictures!

BING BING BING!!!!!! you got it...wow, I really wasn't expecting anyone to get it. send me your addy and I will mail that cookie out ASAP!

Im in San Antonio, stop on by and leave your car with me for a few days and I'll take good care of it! Sweet, thats a heck of an offer! much appreciated and I just might take you up on that! the more I look at it, the more I like the silver or natural finish...still on the fence. its 3", and thats a good guess....but keep trying! Thanks! Thats another good guess...no cookie for you! Alex's Sr20 car is running a dual exhaust, I think it can work visually, but really requires a fuel cell and some metal tweaking that is a bit beyond the scope of this car. I tend to try and modify the body shell as little as possible so if at one point in time I would want to restore it back to stock, I can without going into too much trouble. how do you like it? any trouble or annoying quirks with it so far? I really liked the sound of my car with an open exhaust, but its not so good for the local busy body police. come Monday I will find out if I like it or not...I'm anticipating a big smile though. Thanks everyone for the good feedback, I still have a cookie to give away, if I dont get hungry and eat it later tonight

Well, I finally had a break from my projects (not really, but i took one anyway ) So I went out into the garage and attacked my exhaust install over the last two days. Its now 3" mandrel bent, using a dynomax ultraflow. I have yet to start the car though; it seems that somebody forgot to turn the ignition off last time he started it, draining the battery. duh. So now the battery is charging, and hopefully sometime on monday after I turn in my final project I will get to head to the garage and hear her in all her -hopefully- silent glory....or atleast not as loud as she was before. anywho, I will need to redo the system at some point in the future because it sits WAY too low now, the lowest point is right at the rear wheels though, so that might not cause as many issues as it could if it was in the middle of the car. I tell you, working on a cold garage floor with tiny jackstands sucks! not only that, but the welder I'm using is a 100$ HF thing with flux (eek) core wire in it. PITA, but I got it done, and like I said, when I get a chance to put it on a lift I will TIG up a SS system tighter to the body. well...on with the pictures: looks like she is sitting a little funky but its just the driveway a dollar and one cookie to whoever can identify my special exhaust tip well, I also figured that I would throw in a few more shots for the heck of it, I'm like a proud parent whenever I get a chance to just step back and take a look at all the work I've done with lack luster tools and tiny working space. I'm happy with the results so far...but changes are already in the works. well thats all for now but I do have a question, I was thinking of having the exhaust coated flat black, just to hide it a little, but now that its done and I can see it, I kinda like it. What does everyone think? to black it out, or not to black it out...hmmmm...

building a turbo header w/ sched 40 weld pipe
Sparky replied to OlderThanMe's topic in Fabrication / Welding
oh... my. that is most impressive. feel free to build one for me, when you've got a second... -
That could be due to the fact that more people buy MSD than Crane, therefore when the units fail we are more likely to hear about it. With that said, i've run a Crane box on my old Valiant and had good luck with it. My friend who races BMWs runs MSD boxes, the go through at least 3 a season. unreal, and totally unacceptable. at the last vintage race I was at I noticed several cars running two boxes, one live one, and one backup on a switch. I couldn't believe that people don't just switch brands, instead they just buy more of the same crappy product and hope that both don't fail.

Swapping 280Z 4 speed to 5 speed. Parts needed?
Sparky replied to MOTORHEAD427's topic in Drivetrain
well, there was never a turbo 280Z. and the 280Z 5 speeds were a factory option and very hard to find. the 280ZX 5 speeds are everywhere, produced from 79-83, they made tons of them, and you should be able to easily pick one up from the local junkyard for a nominal price. the turbo 280ZX transmission will be a bit harder to find, cost more money, and be harder to fit. the turbo transmission is a BW T5. the 240SX transmission is more work that the 280ZX turbo T5, and more money too, but if you plan on going turbo in your car in the future, or really abuse your car than it might be worth the extra time and expense up front so you dont end up swapping transmissions again on your next big upgrade. of course if you plan on keeping your car non turbo, and you dont treat it too bad, the 280ZX NA transmission should work fine, and is a direct bolt in. -
1/24 Scale Jadatoys Datsun 240Z diecast!!
Sparky replied to christurismohk's topic in Non Tech Board
does the interchangeability work with engines as well? would be cool to be able to swap over different engines into the 240Z. Have you or your associates ever thought about having an online custom shop? It would be neat to be able to build your own 240Z, you could allow people to chose from a selection of colours, wheels, engines, graphics etc....all coming from existing parts and models for a slight increase in price. maybe include a unique VIN and plaque for each one. (laser engraving?) anywho, I will be purchasing more than a few of those very soon, along with an extra to paint the same colour as my car. -
