Best way to wash a car covered in two years of garage dust?
Sparky replied to Sparky's topic in Body Kits & Paint
good info guys, thanks for the replies Looks like the car will takes its first bath tuesday afternoon if all goes well! keep the comments coming though, just running water over the car sounds like a good start and normally I actually wash my cars using just straight from the hose running water. That should do the trick as a first step, hopefully there isnt any overspray or glue on the finish, its so caked in dust I cant tell anymore! -
oh man! that really stinks, but it happens...it was a nice looking cage while it lasted....

That is a very cool project! I like it with the roof and without, what would cool is if you could chop the crap out of it and make it a removable hard top! maybe some Z3 style roll hoops and a custom bed that is made to hold the top? eh, just ignore me, im dreaming again

Hello everyone! I did a search and came up with a few good ways to wash cars along with everyones recommended products, but no threads or details on the best way to wash a car thats been trapped in the garage jail for two years! (and I know there are lots of us that you use this advice!) So I wanted to get this post going to get the recommendations of our Hybridz paint specialists as well as the average member that has done this kind of thing once or twice before. The dust on the car is typical for a do-it-all two car garage, on one side is the car, on the other side is a welder, grinder, sanders etc...you know the drill. with that in mind you have an idea on just how many kinds of dusty particles are on the car. So what are everyones recomendations?

been raining all night and morning here in San Antonio....FINALLY! temps are around 72...forcasted high of 83! I can work on the car all day now without fear of getting cooked in the garage after 12pm. as soon as I get my B.S. I'm outy....pacific north west here I come! I just cant take this heat anymore.

They do have some really cool stuff, fast shipping too. I bought one of the 3 LED pre assembled units in red and mounted it behind my rear view mirror in order to replicate the dash/console/shifter lighting found on the newer BMWs...it creates a nice low key red glow on the shifter, boost controller and combo switch. some might call that ricey but it really helps you see certain switches and knobs at night without having to turn on the interior lamp. Nice clean install on those gauges, that looks really good.

$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ I'm blinded by dollar signs, that is incredibly mean looking. It's nice to see, I have a feeling that car is actually driven the way it was meant too, and not sitting at 60mph in a 70mph zone like most of the Porsches I see in this state.

http://www.superbrightleds.com has direct replacement leds "bulbs" in single or four led variaties. just recently I bought the yellow, white, blue, red and green LED replacements to see which ones I likes best. after removing the gauges from the dash I took them apart and removed the green filter thats on the back half of the gauge housing. then I replaced the stock filiment bulbs with the coloured LEDs one colour at a time so I could see them and make a decision. I sat in my car for hours swapping out colours in my dark garage trying to find the right one...eventually I swapped in the filiment bulbs without the green coloured filters and wow, that was the look I was going for. I like the look of the LEDs but to me there was something very harsh about the light that they put out. the above gauges look good though, I curious if you removed the green filters from the gauges or you just poped in some blue leds.

nice! some euro 240Z bumpers would look great on the car with those chrome fender mirrors...

I love mine so far, easy to set up and wire, great features, good price. Its odd though, some people love it, and some hate it. there are a good deal of posts on the haltech yahoo group that gave me some negative thoughts early on in the conversion, Lots of people having weird problems and no one to answer their questions. I just installed mine though so over time I may have some of these odd issues come my way, hopefully other users with more experience will chime in later and give them their opinion as well.

Thats something I'm looking into early next week...It would be nice, but I'm not counting on success. I'm hoping that they will as I really want to convert to five lug but until I get a Z31 hub and strut assembly in my hand I just cant answer that question. Thanks to the members of Hybridz.org for all the support! We couldnt do this without you.

it would be nice to be able to incorporate some sort of parking brake system, but from what I've heard (there is actually a topic on this right now) the wilwood spots are troublesome at best. the best bet for the rears would probably be the 240SX option if you wanted a parking brake... I will look into other options, but at this point in time it looks to be a project for the distant future.

Do you happen to have anymore crappy pics youd like to share? that Z is sick, stunning, well thought out and to the point. Well done Tom! EDIT/Addition... I have been thinking about strut bar designs lately, wondering what my best course of action is and I believe I just found it. AWESOME! I love the addition of quick releases, very nice.

WHA!!!! : Tell them that thats absurd, I would offer 600 for the entire package, otherwise they can sit on it and watch it melt into worthless scrap. 1,500.00! geez, it doesnt even have a dizzy or injectors! You could seriously buy a running and complete 280ZX in decent shape for that, then part out the rest to make some of your money back.

not head bolts' date=' but bolt heads, as in the heads of bolts I wasnt paying attention to the fact that you were using studs on the manifold (dont know why I assumed it didnt use studs) So In my mind I was thinking you were "bolting" the turbo to the manifold, so that when you tight the bolts the corners of the hex heads would be at an angle causing problems....BUT: perfect thats answers my question.
-
Whats the plan for the bolt heads when you torque it down? if you plane the turbos flange at an angle when you go to bolt it on you might not be able to get a correct torque rating out of it as the corners of the head cut into the housing or just catch on the edge making you think you have it tight only to have it loosen up down the road. Are you planning on making a angled washer to make up for this...or is it going to be so minimal that it shouldnt be a problem? you could always plane the manifold, fill the bolt holes and then have them re-drilled and threaded at the proper angle.....OR you could sell the turbo to me and then get one that fits I'm curious as to what the solution will be...the things we do to ourselves in the name of speed

Thanks Andrew for answering all the questions. as far as price of calipers and rotors, berhents.com is where I ordered everything from, I went with the billet NDL at 124.00$ and the UL 12.19 curved directional vane rotor at around 36$ each. With the lines we are looking at less than 600$ for the front set! barring any unforeseen issues I should have a complete setup to take photots very soon. As soon as I do I will post them and try to answer some questions I've been getting about min. inner wheel diameter needed to clear the package. thanks again for the comments and interest!
