How can going to the donut shop and back to the station be hard miles??? lmao

LOL... like Mike said... you'll either get dozens of answers or dozens of people telling you to search. You were also pretty vauge about your intentions... are you looking for a drag car, street car, road racer, grocery getter, head turner, sleeper,(?), the list goes on and on. Also the time and money you intend to invest in your project has alot to do with what you build. There are people on here that have YEARS and THOUSANDS invested in their cars, and people that have been able to build nice cars relativley cheap. What V8 would be best for you is really up to you and your plans for the car. A good running stock FI 305 from a camaro or firebird would give you plenty of pep and decent mileage, if thats not enough maybe you should look into building something yourself. The search engine is your best friend here. Look at what others have done and see if you can find someone that has done what youd like to see your car turn into. There are people with years of knowledge here in engine building, framework, transmission building, and from what Ive seen, they are all more than willing to help you out.... IF youve done the search and still have questions.

problems limiting results on the hobby
kuntry replied to grumpyvette's topic in Gen I & II Chevy V8 Tech Board
I hope it didnt come across that way... Im not offended at all, as a matter of fact, I agree with what you said. Its too bad that more knowledge isnt passed on from generation to generation more than it is. When my kids are old enough, Im going to teach them all I can... even if they dont get into cars like I am... maybe they can keep from getting screwed by mechanic shops. -

Well Paz8, Im not sure what you consider older (Im 35), but it sounds like I learned the same way you did. My first car was a POS '71 comet. I rebuilt the straight 6 in auto mechanics, and my father and I did the bodywork and he painted it in our garage. I learned the feeling of doing something yourself. If I had $100,000 theres no way I would pay Grumpy to build me a car (no offense), but I would definatley ask him for advise on how to build it myself. There are several things Im doing for the first time with my Z.... building a frame, (extensive) bodywork, interior, exterior... the list goes on and on. But when Im done, Ill be able to look back and when anyone asks who built the car I can tell them I did everything. Im not naive enough to think that Im going to have a show car when Im finished, or be able to outrun Japtin at the drags (although it would be nice). Im going to make mistakes and have to redo my work, but thats all part of it. As far as the main reason for this thread... money is an issue, but since Im doing most of the work myself, its really just the materials I need. My biggest constraint is time right now. We've been putting in anywhere from 10-13 hr days, when I do get time off, Im so tired that all I want to do is sleep. With a 4 day weekend, Im hoping to get alot done. My other biggest problem is the "while Im at it" virus thats going around the site..lol. This car was brought home sept 17th, with the idea that I would be driving it for Halloween.... which became Thanksgiving.... which became Christmas... which is becoming the beginning of next year.... which damm sure better not extend past March 25th (sez). I blame all of you for this... because of your good ideas and willingness to take the time to post step-by-step instructions. Once I get done, Id love to be one of the guys people come to and ask how I did this or what did I do for that. Since I cant repay the help that you guys have given, Ill gladly repay the debt by helping someone else thats never done this before. -
That ss 410 was the first gun I owned as well. I remember being scared as hell to shoot it (I was like 13). They are great little guns for rabbit/squirrel/snake hunting. I actually tald the wife last night that we are going to pick one up from wally world in the next few days so I can teach her how to shoot. We were just informed by our neighbor that he has run someone off twice now that hes caught snooping around my house. I work nights and with the wife here with the kids alone.... well, you cant be too careful these days. YES it will have a trigger lock and the shells will be locked away.

I buy tons of the HF cutoff wheels when they go on sale. We go thru a bunch of them at work and Im not going to buy expensive ones to basically give away. The Northern tools grinding discs are great too, I got a bunch of them a while back and have been really happy with them. Heres an interesting fact.... you know how if you try to grind plastic it melts and balls up at the end of the grind? well I found out last week that the skin on your fingers does the same thing..... OUCH. Took off the skin on my left index finger at the last knuckle (right under the fingernail) down about 1/16". I found out the hard way to let the grinder do the work and dont try to "force" it to cut faster....... one more lesson learned...... make sure yall wear gloves when grinding. I hate to wear gloves, but it sucks alot less than spending 5 hrs in the ER trying to find out if that white stuff you see is bone or cartillage.
-
I just picked up 3 myself. I was only going to buy 2, but the package said 3+, so I grabbed another.

careless,,,, this is a custom front subframe, nothing pre-manufactured. Im not understanding where your seeing a corvette subframe.
-
ps...... just joking about the hating yall part.... Id likely be driving a death trap by now if I hadnt seen some of yalls amazing work that inspired me to build a better car.
-
ummmmm.... did you not see all the pics posted on this thread? Ive seen several pics in different threads showing the subframes replaced. Im finishing my front subframe and hoping to order rear rails in the next couple of weeks. What started out as a "finished by Halloween" project, turned into a "finished by thanksgiving", now its a "finished by the end of the year" project. I hate everyone on this site for all their good advice and great ideas. I think the "while im there" bug is highly contagious.

Maiden Voyage down the 1320'
kuntry replied to that240guy's topic in Gen III & IV Chevy V8Z Tech Board
So was that run before or after the tune? wow... Thats nice numbers, but I expected it to be more with those times. Not saying anything bad... Im just used to "heavy chevys" that take alot more power to get numbers like that. My old 85 camaro was putting those kinds of numbers to the ground and the only time I ran it (with a 3.08 pegleg) was a 15.03 spinning tire past the 60' mark.... so yeah, Im impressed. -

anyone have a rough "guesstimate" of what kind of power those put to the ground in stock form? Thats some great numbers for a stock motor. -
Good, it wasnt just me. I tried here at home, then later last night at work, then when I got home again....... damm, I think Im getting addicted as well.

Watched it again last night.... anyone see that Pinks is changing the way they run? All races heads up, no negotiations, and running for cash. At least we wont have to put up with the bullsheet bitching and moaning anymore... come ready to race all out or dont come.
-
Hey yall.... hold my beer and watch this

I know it looks like sandpaper in the pics, but after getting a look at it in person, I must say that I was really impressed with it. It has a nice texture, a little rougher than factory, but smooth enough that you wont scrape knuckles if you brush against it. I had thought about doing this myself a while back, now it is definitely going to happen. Cold Fusion has alot of great ideas rolling around over there... definitely one that thinks outside the box. I think I might have to steal a couple from him.

Acronym Definitions?

wtf ?!?!?!?!?! lmao -
I have one of the cheep-o harbor freight gassless migs. To be honest, I love it....... for small jobs. I wouldnt trust it with anything that has to support any real loads. But around here, while working on the frame rails, its been great to tack things in place untill I can get the pieces to work and hit them with the big mig. I also used it to weld the filler door shut, and if I had a little more patience, I think it really would have come out nice. Got too ancy and didnt give the panel time to cool so I got some warpage. All in all, Id say that it was well worth the 100 bucks I paid for it.

Yeah, I spent almost 30 bucks on the red LEDs for both our cars. Seems like it would have been brighter if I had gotten someone to sit in the trunk and put a match thru the hole when I wanted to stop or turn. Ever since I havent wanted to spend the money on the white ones because I didnt want to get burned again. Maybe someone else knows if the clear ones work.
