  1. I had a Gleason in my '77, also bought from Sharp. The car got destroyed, but was able to save the diff., plus some other parts. Finally sold everything to a friend of mine, and it has sat in his garage ever since. I will be getting my 'new to me' '78 in a month or so and would love to get my old diff. back. Here is the question, what is a low...I mean very low... mileage Gleason worth As others have stated, never any problems and no noises. Also, I have never heard about the issue John mentioned about it going open. I have seen regular lsd's do it if a wheel is lifted(I think Chevy had a commercial about their truck rear-end not loseing traction if a wheel is lifted and the Dodge/Ford sat there and spun).
  2. Z car customs has JDM seat. Do not know how to post link. Look nice, kind of old school. $599
  3. I would be interested in any info/pics of your cooling system relocation. I had always thought it would be a good idea. I thought thru radiational cooling of the lines, only a small radiator w/electric fan would be needed(at low speeds). Once you get going, ducts from quarter windows would handle air flow to the radiator. A concern may be how to get the hot air out. vents in the hatch would let water in and aero wise I am not sure. Vents to behind rear wheels may work, would look cool if done right. Anything to rear of car I think would not work, from everything I have read about smelly exhaust in cars. Should be a great way to move weight back/ clean up engine bay. Not a daily driver mod.
  4. I would say it depends on your budget. Last time I looked here or at classic z there were lots of rustfree/under 75k cars forsale. Some original some modified for $5-8000. Thou many seemed to be west coast, some closer to you. Think about expanding you search to other than 240's. If you have the time and want a adventure, fly west and drive a old girl home. Did that with my brother when we were in college found a very nice 1 owner 67k '78. Drive was not fun but still have the car today, 20yrs later, still rust free. It might take awhile, but you will find something. Good luck
  5. The greatest sounding exhaust I have every had on my old '77 was a Clifford's Research header(20+ yrs. ago, I think that was the name), 2.5" straight pipe to a Supertrapp SS muffler. The car had carbs, but not many mods. GREAT sound. Snarled on shifts at higher rpm's, no drone at speed, and my personal favorite alot of poping when decel. I know some guys don't like them but for me, the best I have used. Expensive, yes. Rebuildable, yes. And you really can adj. the sound level with the number of discs. Have used many other Turbo style mufflers none have brought same results. Have even used then on my work trucks. The system now is on my brothers '78 efi car. Sounds good, not as raspy and no spackling on decel. It does not have alot of miles on it but still sound good after 20 yrs.
  6. I was able to tell by looking at the old plugs, the bad cylinder was obvious. Just had injector tested/cleaned at dealer I worked at. Did not need to replace them all. It was free, but I bet prices have gone up some. I don't work there anymore.
  7. Hate to vague, but a factory service manual will be your best help to solve it. To me it could be fuel or electrical. Dirty injector, bad coil, etc. My old '77 had the same type of problem and it was a clogged injector. My buddies fuel pump had a loose ground wire leading to tempermental fuel pump. Also have seen bad batteries cause weird problems. Try to check simple stuff, which it sounds like u have started. Sorry nothing quick here.
  8. Did it run fine before? Need alittle more info., more info=more help. Did it die while running. Check plugs, what do they look like. I would not switch to carbs, you will spend alot of money and stock efi is USUALLY very easy to use. Good luck, sucks having a broken old girl.
  9. I have seen it in rare situations, but could the thermostat be installed upside-down? Also there might be a air pocket/blockage somewhere in the engine. Both unlikely but possible. I might be new here but it's weird that some people like to complain about a post for being boring or to easy to bother with but will still waste the same amount of time to whine as to actully try to help.
  10. I know this is old, but what about the advantages of wide rear tires that don't require flares. Large choice of wheels/tires, 315-345's would be nice under a s30. Also what about being able to use easy to find brake parts(Mustang)? Seems to be a good idea for drag and road course if it is set-up right. I am thinking about going this way in the future. It would be a backhalf or full tube car. All of the threads I have read it seems that the only real problem is the ladder bars/4link interfere with the seat mounts. Any pics/set-up ideas for a Z with solid axle that is for cruising/track days, not drag racing. Hay, first post. Don't even feel dirty....
