Towing my shell - can I?
VRJoe replied to MusPuppis's topic in Brakes, Wheels, Suspension and Chassis
How far are you towing it ?? I've used the U-Haul trailers a few times for about $70 a day (local). I think it's about twice that for a one-way rental. A full trailer is always better, no strain on the car. - Joe -
Been about a year since my last post. Lots of things have happened.

Glad things are working out. The rough times sure help you appreciate the good times (and give you lot's of incentive to keep 'em good.). - Joe -
Take a look at the capacitors on the MB. There's been a run of bad capacitors over the years (made in China). Look a the top of the capacitors, if the top is bulged in any way the capacitor is shot. The top should be flat. When these capacitors fail they can take out the MB, damage the processor and even cook the power supply. You should be able to just swap in a new MB with a processor with no trouble. I'd replace the power supply at the same time, get a 400W or better, the bigger the better (kinda like horsepower or boost). - Joe

The bushing might have to be reamed after installation. You could just take it (the case with the bushing pressed in) to a machine shop with the slip yoke and have them ream the bushing to fit the slip yoke. That would be one simple fix. - Joe

Funny, I was talking with the guys at my paint supplier and asked about what primer I should use on the car I'm picking up. It has a slight rust spot on the roof and I wanted to sand and primer it before it got too cold. They told me that primer is porous and it will not prevent rust. They recommended primering it then spraying with a rattle can that was close. I'll post more about the car when I get it in the driveway next week (it's not a Z) 'till then, I'll leave you hanging. Hope that helps - Joe

Ford to pay $61 mil for teen death from falling asleep at the wheel
VRJoe replied to auxilary's topic in Non Tech Board
The problem with the Firestone tires was with a certain batch of tires. The tires were produced by replacement workers during a strike at the Firestone plant. The tires were not Vulcanized correctly and could fail if they overheated. It took a lot to overheat the tire, low pressure, hot day and driver error, but the effects were major accident. The tire would fail, the driver would over-correct and BINGO rock and roll-over time. As I recall all the roll-overs took place it highway speed. It takes speed to roll an Explorer. The funny thing is I had 75,000 miles on the "bad" Firestone tires, Ford replaced them with Wrangles that didn't last 30,000. I missed the Firestones every one of those 30,000 miles, mine were great and I can assure you I "tested" them at speed relatively often. - Joe -
Now that's funny. - Joe

OK, As I recall both the T-Bird and the Cougar had them at one time. They had three lights that sequenced for signals. - Joe

Boy, that's in good shape. You got a bunch of us between Philly and VA, so don't hesitate to ask for help. There's a lot of experience close by, let alone the advice you can get here. - Joe

Documentation is the key, without it the police can't help. Contact a Private Investigator and hire them to check the situation out. Since he's obviously tracking you it will be a no-brainer for the PI. Once you have the documentation from the PI you can *BOTH* file a Restraining Order against him (key word - BOTH). That's step one. Step Two: Have the PI track you and watch for a violation of the Restraining Orders. Even if he skirts the edges of the RO he will fall into the anti-stalking laws. Turn the evidence over to the police AND the courts and request a competency hearing. If he continues to follow you after that he could be arrested or held for psychiatric testing. It will cost a little money, but it will be the best way to get evidence. It should not cost too much due to the fact it should be pretty easy for the PI to get the evidence from what you've told us. By going this route the evidence has great weight to the court since it was collected by a third party. The PI can be a big help in all this. You remain above reproach and are obviously acting out of fear of harm from this person. Spend a little money and get all your ducks in a row, then let the police and court system handle him. It's actually kind of fun when you have someone stalk the stalker. Some PI's have VERY persuasive methods of convincing a stalker to stop once they've collected the evidence. One way to find a good PI is to ask the Detectives after explaining the situation to them. Explain that you want to gather the evidence BEFORE you need their help. Just my little opinion, hope that helps, - Joe

It looks like an interesting thread, I got to page 4, but server went down. I guess a lot of folks are trying to read that thread. Can't wait to how it all turns out. - Joe

Let's see, if an 'African' American says something like that he's praised for his thoughtfulness, if a 'White' American says something like that he's a racist and a bigot. I have no tolerance for bigots no matter who it comes from. I'd love to replace every reference to 'Black' Americans with 'White' Americans then read it back to him and listen to him scream about the bigotry. WE'RE ALL AMERCAN, GET USE TO IT. It's time to start saying "American of Irish decent" or "American of English decent" or "American of African decent" or "American of decent". The key word here is AMERICAN. Sorry for the rant, but it's a pet peeve. - Joe

Says a lot about a 777, makes me think it's a pretty safe plane. I was on a flight that had high crosswinds on landing, I was in a window seat and could see the wing. Watching the spoilers (those doors that pop up from the wing) I could tell it was going to be rough. As we got over the runway we could tell the plane was about 15 degrees and fighting the wind. The pilot put the plane down with one bounce. As the nose came down the whole plane broke out in applause. I think everybody complimented him on the way out. One heck of a good landing. Knowing what I know about aircraft and pilots, I could tell he'd had a rough time, great pilot, amazing landing. - Joe

Mike, just let me know the date. Maybe I'll make it this time, I'll just turn off all the phones a few days ahead. But then again, if I do that we'll get a 4 foot snow storm. - Joe
