Mike are we still on for Saturday the 28th? I have to work that weekend but I think I will take a personal day to drive down to the meet. My Z is still an inliner but I would enjoy being able to meet and greet some of the Hybrid members. Besides the 28th is my birthday and I have missed going to the other GA Z events recently because of work. I plan on being there if the meeting is still on.

I was in the Army around the time of the first Gulf War. I served four years and decided to leave the Army for civilian life in January 1990 only to be called back to active duty about a year later for the war. I was sent to Sweinfurt, Germany to the 3rd Infantry Division 5/41st Field Artillery and was to be the next Field Artillery unit to go in. Thank God our boys kicked major tail on the ground and air so I never had to go to the desert. During my four years I served in the following units: 2nd Infantry Division 2/17th FA, South Korea 197th Infantry Brigade 2/10th FA, Fort Benning, GA (this unit redesignated to the 4/41st FA 3rd Infantry Division 5/41st FA, Sweinfurt Germany (During Desert Storm) Is anybody here an ex gun bunny? God bless all the men and women still serving in our armed forces and lets hope that they can come home soon.

It sounds a little like what I did a while back. I was putting a lot of money into a rusted out 1975 280 that did not run. I finally decided to buy a Z that wasn’t really rusty and transfer everything over to it. This included Modern Motor Sports rear brake conversion Panasport Wheels and Yokohama Tires Tokico Springs and struts A complete carpet kit A complete MSA body kit etc… It was the best move I have ever made on my project because now the beat up ole 75 (sitting on jack stands 10 feet away) is my parts car. By the way I bought my Edelbrock aluminum heads today at the local parts store for the V-8 swap. They will be in tomorrow. Good Luck on the 260!

Also make sure that the hazard switch is still connected (under your console). If it isn't then your turn signals will not work. As far as all the lighting problems, check your bulbs they are probably blown. Welcome to the site!

Mat, I could try to get it all scanned in and perhaps email it to you. By the way, I did not know it when I bought it but this magazine also has the Evil Kneivel V-8 Z-car in it. That car was sold on Ebay a few moths ago. Cool

Yeah it says in the article that those actually tie into the roll cage on the inside of the Z. Here is a couple of quotes from the article on those tubes. "George Britting added a couple of upper support tubes and tied them into the McPherson Strut towers that were beefed with 3/16-inch thick steel plate." "Kenny thinks that the Datsun Z is strong enough in this area that this isn't really necessary, especially on a street car."

I won this old issue of Popular Hot Rodding off of Ebay the other day. It is a May 1978 issue that has an article of a Chevy big block being stuffed into a 240 Z. The guy doing the swap is a fellow by the name of Kenny Laughton from southern California. The article is written by Leonard Emanuelson. The article is very interesting in that the writer talks about the Z being more than capable of handling the power of the big block with few if any modifications. “The Datsun Z comes with a front frame section that is strong and provides a good mounting base for an engine, even with as much torque as the Chevy big block.†Emanuelson writes. By the way do any of you old timers here remember this article way back then? I was in the eighth grade in 1978 so I was too young to even ponder V-8 swaps. Also does anybody know if this Z is still around alive and kicking? Here are a couple of pictures that I scanned to share with you all. Enjoy.

The DP90LF cost me $37.55 a quart. The DP402LF Catalyst cost me $21.55 for a pint. However, I still had some from the last time I used the DP so I used it instead. I actually had enough before I bought the pint but at the time (standing in the PPG store) I did not know it. I can almost get one coat on my Z out of one quart of DP90.

Yeah mine sits in the garage all the time and it is driven occasionally. Here is a picture of te new updated rear end. This will be the last picture of the Z in this post. I still have to put my mirrors back on but I am pretty much finished.

Is that a side vent from a Camaro or Trans Am? I had thought about doing that a while back and had forgotten about it until I saw your picture. Nice

Racer X, You know I had my heart all set on red and then I go and paint it with this, as you said “intimidating†looking stuff. It has me thinking that a black Z car would look pretty cool. The car will stay the way it is for now and I will save my pennies for a professional paint job once the V-8 is in the car. Maybe by then I will have made my mind up on a color. By the way thanks for the compliment Racer X, it means a lot to me to get a compliment from you and I truly mean that. And you can make fun of my er uh short hose anytime haha

Haha yep you are right about the hose. I had to go around the back of the car to make it work. Garage painting at its finest. Um, Racer X, (cough, gag) uh buddy old wise friend of mine, just how long does this toxic poisoning take to set in? I am feeling a little woozy and high. I probably took about 40 years off of my life on this one. I did put a few coats on the Z I hope it will last for a while anyway. Here is the finished product. By the way Tim I got the Hybrid shirt yesterday or the day before, looks great!

Evil, It's an epoxy primer and to my understanding it acts as a sealer. Racer X told me about it a couple of years ago and I painted my then project car 75 Z with the stuff. It has now sat out in the weather for about a year and a half and still looks pretty good, (it's now my parts car). I just got tired of my Z being different colors so I went ahead and did something for the short haul to make it look decent. Oh I almost forgot, thanks for the compliment

I’ve been busy tonight guys. I got tired of my Z being three different colors so today (and tonight) I did something about it! I love the way that PPG DP90LF looks when it is first applied. Looks a whole lot better I think. I will have more pics tomorrow when I get her all put back together.
