Yeah I have my own intake and carb. Edelbrock performer RPM #7101 intake and Edelbrock 600cfm carb #1406. That's another thing, I don't know his rep but like I said I am still doing my homework. I do know though that the skies the limit when it comes to having an engine built. One of the things he talked about was decking the block. He said that I could have that left off if I wanted but he recommended having it done.

Yeah I have been worried for a while now about what radiator I was going to go with and how I was going to mount it up. This just made things so much easier for me make a decission. By the way I checked with an engine builder in Acworth, GA (where I work) the other day and told him I wanted my engine to be capable of producing at least 300 hp. He said that he could build my 350 to do just that for around $2,800 and some change. Does this sound like a good deal? I still have to do some homework here in the Rome area where I live.

I bought Tokico struts and springs from Motorsport Auto. The old rear struts were shot as in gone as in crap when I pulled them out of the strut housings. I am pleased with my set up. The Tokico springs are shorter than the stock springs but I think that they are alot stiffer too. The car is lowered about one inch with the new set up.

Hey guys its been a while since I posted last but I had to share something that I found yesterday by accident. I was at work and bored and decided to surf the internet. I went to the JTR site and saw something there that I had not seen nor heard of before. It seems that JTR now offers a complete radiator kit for the Z car (radiator included) that is pretty affordable. I ordered the kit yesterday and the guy says that it should be shipped today. I am getting closer to having all of the parts for my conversion. I would like to have them all before I begin my tear down so that everything will go smoothly when I start the rebuild process.

Thanks for the great info I am chugging along on this thing so maybe this might just be the year I get the V-8 in the car. I have decided to go the econo rout for now as in use what I have to get er done. I have a Holly carb from the long gone parts camaro/engine doner that I will use in the short run until I can get the Edelbrock carb I want. Use the mech fan instead of the electric fan that I want and so forth. My goal here is to get the engine in the car and running and go from there. Oh by the way I read on some web site that you can not get by with just an auxilery trans cooler for an auto transmission so I guess I will have to spend a little on a radiator with the hookups for the tranny lines.

Man...Reinstalling Tranny By Myself.....Not Fun
Georgia Flash replied to slownrusty's topic in Drivetrain
I can tell you this, I will not try to wrestle with the 700R4 that I bought the other day. Man that thing is a monster! I only weigh about 160 lbs and there is no way I will be laying under my Z with that thing in my chest crushing the life out of me. I will probably put the engine and tranny in as a single unit. That may be the easiest way to go for me. -
Yes I do know Z cars 8) And no I'm no Rookie As the first guy said, NO the hood from a 280Z will not fit a 280ZX! Period nuff said.

Rick, My mistake, the connector is on the driver's side of the transmission. It is a four prong plastic connector. I just got back with my shifter. I think it came from a Camaro or Firebird. It has a long electrical connector on it maybe that is the neutral safety/back up connector.
-
Thanks, I will see if I can pull the shifter from a Camaro today. I never made it back yesterday. I was wondering, the electrical connector on the right side (passenger side) of the tranny, is that for the back up lights? The salvage yard did not give me the plug that goes into the connector. I also need to get the speedometer cable, nope they did not give that to me either. The shop was closing that day and the owner was under the impression that I had all of this stuff and was just replacing one 700R for another.

I bought my used 700R the other day from a salvage yard for $325.00. The old guy told me that it came from a running 87 Chevy Van. I still have to go back today and get some things they forgot to give me. Does anyone have a link to a site that will help me run the numbers on my tranny? I went to http://www.highperformancecars.com but that site only helped me with determining the correct year of my tranny, it is a 1987 model. The web site didn't give any other help with the other numbers. I have also visited http://www.bowtieoverdrives.com and that site has a wealth of info. By the way for those of you running this tranny, did you use the dip stick that came with the tranny or did you go with something custom? How about the linkage for the shifter?
-
I know this goes elswhere but I need a quick answer and this is the best place to ask it. I will be going to the salvage yard in a few to get a 700 R4 from a 91 van. I guess my concern is how to correctly identify it as a 700 R4 and is the 91 van going to have what I'm looking for? Also are there any other parts I need to grab while I'm there? This place closes at 2:00pm that's why I need the quick answers. This post can be moved after 2:00pm or I can just delete it if need be. Oh by the way they want 325.00 for the tranny, that is without exchange. Thanks

Who I am and what I'm doing. Complete with pictures!

That is the best looking 280 I have ever seen! Even with the big bumpers. It would be a crime to take them off. -
yeah...a couple of years back...it seems like the problems for me started as of lately and on the big ticket items such as the body kit and the Panasports. Give em time and they will eventually disapoint you too.

Yeah I just re read the post. Man that blue Z has me thinking about junking all the MSA fiberglass crap that I spent a fortune on in favor of the stock bumper look! It is just so clean, it looks brand new. -
Don't even get me started on MSA My body kit took months to get here not weeks and my Panasports seemed like it took a year to get them after many lies were told by the salesmen that I spoke with over the phone. However, my springs and struts did get here rather quickly. Guy like you I have also spent thousands of dollars with this company. I have spent so much money that I should have stock in the company. Next time you call them for something ask them to pull up your account and you will be surprised at the money you have blown with them.

I'm a little confused by this post. At first I thought that the blue 280 was the Z that you found and I was about to congradulate you on a remarkable looking Z! In fact that is one of the nicest looking 280's I have ever seen. Got me thinking about painting mine back to the original color. Then I saw the orange 240 and thought that you were going to say this is the before pics of the blue 280 so I smelled a fraud. But now I do not know what to think Who's magnificent blue 280 is that? Love how clean the engine bay is and the paint is out of this world! -
I love Boogie Nights and that is a red ZX that Scotty buys to impress Dirk.
-
Nothing wrong with the ZX, heck my next project will be a V-8 powered ZX, that is if I ever get this one done

Hey I just went to his web site and I see that he is still on an Atlanta station 105.7 I think it was. I will have to find out when.

Phil Hendrie is great! Man I miss his show. Yes he does all the voices on his show and it is hilarious. The funny thing is people like some of you guys that were fooled on here will hear his show and get pissed and call in to argue with the fake guy with the camaro. Listen to it again and see if you can tell it's the same guy. I miss his show. Funny stuff.

PLEASE HELP ME KEEP MY CAR! (struts)
Georgia Flash replied to zero's topic in Brakes, Wheels, Suspension and Chassis
Yes you have to disconnect the half shafts. I just replaced all 4 struts and springs on my Z. -
Thanks guys, I think I will go to Sears and see what Craftsman has to offer. It seems like I have checked there before but didn't find anything. As for the Home Depot items, they only had the one that I bought and that was it. There was no high dollar set there only the cheapo set. I have seriously thought about the Snap On brand because I have used one of these before when I attended vo-tech school and it worked great! Thanks again for the input.
-
Hey guys, I need some advice on buying a tap and die set to work on my Z. I will be ordering on line tomorrow so give it to me. Who has a good set that they use on the Z? I have a cheapo one from Home Depot but none of the things work for any of my nuts and bolts on the Z.

DEA Agent Shoots Self During Gun Safety Class
Georgia Flash replied to auxilary's topic in Non Tech Board
Treat all guns as if they are loaded at all times...period! I carry a Glock .40cal on duty and have carried a 9mm Smith & Wesson and have always treated them with respect. During my career, going on 15 years now, I have only seen 2 accidental discharges by officers of the two departments that I have worked for. One with the Smith 9mm and one with the 12 gauge shotgun. -
I just got my package of Tokico springs (nice red ones ) and struts from MSA. The instructions in the Tokico Strut package says that any type of oil can be used to fill the strut housing as long as it is light. I guess by light they mean like gear oil such as Tim suggested.
