Lower radiator hose question
Georgia Flash replied to Dave's topic in Gen I & II Chevy V8 Tech Board
I read or saw this somewhere. Take a coat hanger and bend it to the shape and length that you will need and then do as the others said. Go to the local parts store and go hunting. By the way I have never been told “no†by a clerk at a parts store when it comes to doing things like this. Good luck. -
You said a mighty big word there "IF" I was only wondering why hasn't the process been documented better so as to entice others with photographic evidence that there is something going on with the Ford kit. I am willing to wait for a quality part but then I have already decided to go Chevy a long time ago anyway. Ah but my next project just might be a Ford powered Z car. By the way I have to disagree with you on the Z not getting much respect with car guys.

This thread was started in December of 2004 and still no pictures of this amazing $500 kit. Or is it a $600 kit now? What gives? All I keep reading is how much of an advantage that “we Ford guys†have over the Chevy guys and how the Ford motor is so much lighter and thinner than the Chevy motor. I say prove it. I mean there are a lot of guys on this board running the Chevy motor and the fear of law suits has not slowed down JTR and MSA and Hooker from selling Chevy 350 kits to the masses. So to “Hitman47†I say if you got a kit let us see it, and if not, well there is always the JTR MSA and Hooker kits for “us SBC guys.†By the way I have nothing against Ford, I have owned a few and liked them. I would even be interested in seeing a Ford 351 in a Z because I think that it would be unique. I just had to vent a little on this long running thread that seems to be promising a lot but going nowhere.

Oil Pressure Switch per JTR
Georgia Flash replied to Georgia Flash's topic in Gen I & II Chevy V8 Tech Board
Well here she is boys in all her glory! MFG #OPS 56 Oh and by the way, Davy, I went to another Ace Hardware store today and found what I needed as far as the steel nipples goes. However, they did not have the 1 1/4 inch as suggested by JTR so I got the next size they had, a 1 1/2". -

Oil Pressure Switch per JTR
Georgia Flash replied to Georgia Flash's topic in Gen I & II Chevy V8 Tech Board
Well because the book, swap bible, Holy Grail of Datsun to V8 suggested the Chrysler switch that's why. If I had known I could get something else I would have. I just figured that since the writer of the manual suggested this obscure switch then there must be a reason for using it and only it…right? On the bright side it did cost less than $8 bucks. Oh the things you learn. But it is funny that you should mention a switch from a Camaro because the clerk yesterday suggested the same thing. Even though I was frantically pointing at the black and white print in my JTR manual that said "use the oil pressure light/fuel pump switch from a 1978-1980 Dodge Omni or Plymouth Horizon." Yep I tried them too with no luck. Tony, hold on to that part! I will see if the parts store ordered the right part in about an hour. If they didn’t I will give you a shout. -
Oil Pressure Switch per JTR

Thanks Jaime, I went to the Advance Auto in the next town because they told me on the phone that they had the part in stock. So I race down there in my little Z of many colors only to find that he had looked up the wrong part. By the way it is always great to drive my Z car because people look at it like it like it is something they have never seen before. I even struck up a conversation with one of the store employees about the Z. It seems he once had a 240Z back in college and he commented on how well he liked the MSA front bumper and cowl hood on my Z. In fact he surmised that since I had the cowl hood he thought I already had a V8 in the Z. Anyway I found and ordered the part from them and it should be in tomorrow. But now my quest turns to the steel pipe nipples. I went to Tractor Supply, Ace Hardware and finally Home Depot and none of these places had the steel pipe nipples that I needed. They had the brass ones at Home Depot but not the steel. JTR Manual says: “To install the Datsun oil pressure sending unit and the Chrysler fuel pump safety switch, use the following hardware store items…†I never dreamed that finding these parts would be such an adventure. By the way do not go into a parts store and ask for a Chrysler fuel pump safety switch, trust me on this. It is listed as an “oil pressure switch.†Advance Auto part #OPS56 (1978 Dodge Omni) Auto Zone part #’s Wells brand #PS121 and Niehoff brand #OP23471 -
Happy Birthday SUPER DAN !!!!!!!!!!!!
Georgia Flash replied to COZY Z COLE's topic in Non Tech Board
Happy Birthday Dan and thanks for a wonderful site! -
Hi guys, I have just tried a quick search looking for the part number for the Chrysler oil pressure fuel pump safety switch mentioned in the JTR manual. I came up with only one mention of this part number, and it was from a post back in 2001, the member suggested that he bought part #0418653 from a Chrysler dealer. However, he has yet to install it on his Z (as of 2001 that is). I went to two parts stores last night and did not have much luck finding this part. At Advance Auto Parts the girl looked at me like I had the plague when I tried to explain to her about the part. I even took my JTR manual with me and showed her the picture of the switch and its description still no luck. I went to Auto Zone next and the fellow there did come up with some part numbers. One was made by a company called Wells part# PS 121 and the other was a company called Neihoff part #OP23471. Does anyone know what part number I should get? Oh yeah the reason I did not go ahead and get the one from Auto Zone is because last night the clerk could not get the computer to work due to an electrical storm here in NW GA. The part is not a stocked item and he had to order it. I figured that I would ask here before I try this purchase again. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance.

Happy for ya and welcome to the site, but if you have been lingering here for any length of time you should know better than to post this in the V-8 Forum

Since you claim to know about police cars then you should also know that most police cars are equipped with something called a video camera and the tapes will almost always be played in court in front of the judge Just my .02 worth. Have a nice day. Mike and Magnum were right with what they said.

I would have to take a look see at the second Z if I were closer. It has a lot things already done to it to give someone a good headstart on their project.
-
Uh...guys that is one ugly car! Hope that they catch the little creeps that did it though. No one deserves to have their property destroyed like that.
-
I rearranged and cut and beat a lot of things trying to get it to fit with no luck. I was very unhappy with the fitment. I figured that when I got the car painted by a "professional" someday that they could get it to work. However, judging by some posts about this it seems that even the pros have problems fitting the aftermarket pieces.
-
Nope not hardly it kinda sorta went on but the bottem where it bolts to the under side of the uni body seemed to be too short. I never really could get it to fit properly even after massaging it and beating it and cussing at it. I finally gave up and figured that I would just use some sheet metal screws to hold the bottem in place since it wouldn't stretch to fit over the original bolt holes. I never got around to trying the sheet metal screws. Oh well afterall it's just money...right?

Tim I will take one XL shirt, I will not be attending the show please ship my package, thanks. Sending money now. -
Very nice work so far, I wish I had welding and fabrication skills like that. Keep up the good work.

Ah yes the dreaded aftermarket fender strikes again. When I first started coming to this site I was warned about buying Victoria British fenders and I did not listen to my elders. I bought a driver’s side fender for my then project 75 Z because the original was smashed. I was happy when it arrived all new with no dings and promptly tried bolting on the old Z. Much to my surprise the damn thing did not fit! Just like everyone pretty much had told me that it wouldn’t. That was some time ago and I have a new project 76 Z now, the blue one, and the VB fender is sitting in my storage shed collecting dust. This is partly because there is nothing wrong with my driver’s side fender on the blue Z. Ah long lessons learned. If I had all the money I wasted early in the project stages I would have my Z running by now under the power of the Chevy 350 instead of the inline motor.

Eh-hemm not quite... I do not like them that much but to each is own I guess.
-
Unless you have had problems with overheating in the past I would just have yours repaired and cleaned out (rodded) by a good radiator shop. However, if you need better cooling then JTR (Jags that Run) does sell a replacement radiator that will bolt in your Z using their radiator mount. I think that you can download a copy of the cooling section now at their web site and it shows them putting the radiator in a Z with an inline 6. Motorsport Auto http://www.modern-motorsports.com also sells a beefed up radiator if I'm not mistaken.

Looks like a Zap car but it is missing the "Z" in the stripe on the hood. Look at this pic I found on the web. Of course it could have been re painted over the years and the owner or painter chose to leave it off.

anyone wanna sell their jtr book?
Georgia Flash replied to a topic in Gen I & II Chevy V8 Tech Board
I see them on EBay all the time. Heck I even placed a bid on one and was the winning bidder at $12.00 for a while. The book still sold for less than I paid for mine. Oh and by the way...no you can not have it, it's mine -
That's why they would break the passenger side window instead
