  1. While they are awesome (in a wait-til-the-last-damn-second) way, they don't do much for car trunks filled with tnt.
  2. After I clicked 'submit thread', I thought better of it and cancelled. Guess I didn't get it in time I'm actually a 'veteran Marine', over here as a contractor. 1st Civ Div pays better. Come to find out, it was a suicide-bomber. No friendly casualties, 2 locals dead. Now I can't go across the street for our weekly Counter-Strike 'meetings':(
  3. It's funny what you don't miss. On an unrelated note, my 'rectal danger sensor' is in tip-top shape.
  4. 3800 lbs is only a couple shy of my '64 New Yorker... Considering the price, I presume that a significant portion of the weight is for luxury items. One of the main culprits is probably sound-deadening materials. I'm thinking maybe three hundred pounds at least. Then you have all that extra wiring for heated seats and the like.
  5. Grats on the kid! My 280 is sitting in my mother's driveway under a tarp...in Boston... I wish I could have it at a shop, getting some work done while I'm over here so it''' be ready to go when I get back. Problem is, though, I can't trust my brother with money, and I wasn't in Boston long enough to get any real mechanic friends I can trust, save one, and he's busy enough as it is. Going off tangent a bit, I've been considering jumping ship over here. There is a company across the street who's just lost a couple people, and offered a co-worker and I a job. It's really tempting... Pro's: -I'd get my own room. -I'd get promoted from Helpdesk to Network admin/tech -approx. $40-60k pay raise. -they have more techs than they need (due to contract req), and I'll have more time to study for certs (ATM I have none). Con's: -I've been a contractor for all of two months, and I'm worried about burning bridges/being greedy. I'm going to be going by there tomorrow to see if the pro's are true, as well as an informal interview. I could use some opinions on this one, as my hesitation is based almost solely on scruples. BTW, Naviathan, once the weather gets colder, you'll be seeing our friend Mr. camel spider a lot more! Kabul doesn't have any
  6. If you come up here on business, I'll buy you lunch at the chow hall! You're lucky, I got stuck with these Army guys. They think having to clean or carry their rifles is 'cruel and unusual'. Inter-service jabs aside, I'm going to have to make a video or something. You guys really need to see what a country with no traffic law looks like! Hell, even Iraq makes a sort of sense, especially in comparison. No Z's yet, but there are quite a few Datsuns still stumbling along...ish... Contracting really is a lifestyle, and a great one at that, but I can't help but sit here, worrying how rusted the 280z will be when I get back.
  7. So...you just went for the halibut? Huh? Huh? Come on...
  8. Am I the only one here that didn't have a car until I was twenty!? Sweet color, nice pics!
  9. I lost all my rifle pics, but here's the best I could do!
  10. Thanks for the kind words. I remember you offering to help me get a job last Dec., and although I got one before I saw your message, I really did appreciate it. Unfortunately, I get to be with the Army on this one. Yay.
  11. Several months ago I was laid off of my job with EMC Corp., which I'm interpreting as some deity's obsession with my never finishing my Z. I have since secured a job requiring a security clearance, one thing I do have that would help me get employed. Fortunately/Unfortunately, this job takes me overseas to Kabul, Afghanistan in the VERY near future for over a year. As per usual deployment protocol, I've been downloading as much media as I can. Wish me luck! -Ryan PS: Send porn.
  12. Say, Veritech. You wouldn't happen to be a Penny Arcade reader, would you?
  13. I see how it is. Auxilary has the monopoly on funny posts, and there ain't enough room for another. That said, sorry 'bout the repost!
  14. I came across this site a couple days ago, and the first thing I thought was to share it with you guys, and see what you thought! The site contains many, many hard-to-find and discontinued parts and, although expensive, are completely worth it! http://kalecoauto.com/index.php?main_page=index -Pickle
  15. I actually just heard about furries on the radio...WTH?
  16. This is not a flame! Dude...seriously. "chineese" ?
  17. That's what they want you to think...
  18. As far as "mad-tight, Euro LED's yo!" taillights go, those actually don't look all that bad. Just so long as it's not on that car....or done by that guy...
  19. Jt1 guessed it right! The mechanic just called me and said it was a bad ballast resistor. Now he just has to bleed the brakes for me and I should be all set!
  20. Here she is! I got her for $3,500 about a month and a half ago. She ran fine, if a bit 'boaty'. Powersteering was crazy-easy. The only things wrong with it, aside from this issue, was that the paint and chrome could use a once-over, and a bit of rust/body work. Also, when he swapped the engine in, he put the carb from the 413 onto it the REALLY needs a rebuild/replace. I was about to buy a Holley 670 cfm for it but I got laid off about a week ago. I had AAA tow it to a guy's garage that I met this weekend up at the Epping Nationals in NH. He invited my super-hot roomate up there, and I tagged along. While there, I went out of my way to help him with prepping his car, and he took a liking to me. Stage1: accomplished! Got him to want me to bring my own car, which is when I brought up the fact that I had two cars not running, which is when he volunteered to help! Stage2:accomplished! Now I'm just waiting to hear back and see if he's going to rape me with parts/labor...
  21. SteelToad: I've had that problem before, but when that happens, I wouldn't get anything at all. Pushing another gear and pushing it back into neutral usually cleared that right up. When it didn't the good ol' "screwdriver-under-the-hood" trick worked like a charm . Yeah, it looks great, just sitting there! Dr_Hunt: I actually debated which of the two to put it into. The troubleshooting section just made more sense to me, considering the topic. I'll put these types of threads in the non-tech from now on. My apologies. Rockr69: You're not the first to say that, but I must admit I was really hoping that the knowledgable reply I got was some sort of quick fix that didn't involve figuring out how to take the dash off! BTW, do you know where I can find a DIY guide for this? Once I'm done I'm going to sell the damned thing and get back to the Z! Thank you for the help! -Ryan
  22. Heya, I know it's not about my 280z, but Hybridz is just this much more awesome (strains arms to each side). The car in question is a 1964 Chrysler New yorker. The engine was swapped out 2+ years ago from a 413 to a '65 Chrysler 383. The carb was swapped over from the original, and leaks a VERY small amount of gas. All fluids check out fine. The engine started up fine with no issues two days prior, with no trouble for the previous month while it was driven every day. Symptoms: When I have the key in 'start', the engine starts as normal, but when I bring the key back to 'run', it cuts out immediately. Things I and a AAA mechanic checked: - Battery holds charge, or at least it does when being jumped . - Mechanic hooked up a 'thingy' to each sparkplug wire coming off the distributor, and seemed satisfied with the results. - Fuel is being pumped into carb. - Exhaust came out of the the pipe, including a backfire today from repeated starts. Tools at my disposal: - Three vice-grips. - Three philips screwdriver (one stubby). - One tube-bender. - One flat-head screwdriver. - One pair of pliers.
  23. I remember a documentory on the History Channel a couple years ago. In it, it said the manufacturer put a statement somewhere in the owner's manual recommending the rear wheels' pressure be 15 psi, but didn't ship it that way.
  24. For those who're looking for the same info, the wires go through the fender into the engine compartment underneath the hood hinge then through the firewall by way of a hole directly behind where the directional switch mounts in the dash (from the pass. comp.)
