  1. If it makes you feel any better, I'm out almost $6,000 in a broken lease, and lost a house's worth of stuff (furniture, library, clothes, etc.) because of a 'close friend'. He actually once stated that friends are there to be used. Sounds like him and your friend would get along famously!
  2. Boston, MA! I hate it! I actually miss 29 Stumps!
  3. The PO took off the bumpers in preparation for a body kit, but left the bumper struts on. After seeing a set for sale on ebay, I realized I could take the eyesores off as well. I did, but I can't seem to find a handy, safe place to put the horns now (as they were attached to the struts). I only have some hand tools, and the parts off of the car itself (sans bumpers), so fabrication is out of the question. No hurry, as I'm sanding off the rust and repainting them anyway. Also, would anybody be able to tell me if there is a replacement grill that would fill up the space previously occupied by the bumpers? Cheap/Free is preferable. Thank you in advance. {77 280z, stock}
  4. I'm downloading a torrent for all 9 seasons, plus an episode guide. 37 Gigs..
  5. I've been there, Naviathan... Been pulled over twice for mistaken identity on base when I was drive a white 240sx. There were six white 240's on base at the time, and one jerk in a 240sx hatchback kept ruining life for the rest of us. The MP couldn't understand the difference between a coupe and a hatchback... A ticket's one thing, but knowing several 240sx owners who have to stand tall in front of "The Man" once a month is REALLY annoying. On the flip side, I have been driving in an expediant manner when I've passed a cop, only to have him pull over someone else when he caught up. I only hope they were able to get off.
  6. Yes, for at least two reasons. One, the judge (who is a person) will most likely work with you on it and let you off easy. Two, some other officer will give you another ticket later on. On a side note, in order to be compliant with the CA tint law, the windows directly to each side or in front of the driver can't be tinted. Exceptions are VERY faint tint (can't say how much off of the top of my head), and the top four inches of the wind shield. In my opinion, you're car would look better if the windows match all around, be it faint tint or none.
  7. Welcome the wonderful world of ADD. Getting a project 95% done in a day, then completing it 4 months later is par for the course. Projects B, C, D, and so on are suddenly more important than its predecessor... Also, I agree with Joey, after 1-1.5 hours, you're not gaining anything.
  8. My friend's Evo VIII did that same thing, except there was also a nice metallic paste that would cut you, instantly. Oh, and it was 2 years old and only running 20 hp over stock...
  9. I'm curious to know if this happens to anyone else. I have a hard-plastic dash cover (covering a VERY cracked dash), and whenever I have to floor it from a stop (for whatever reason ), it never fails to fall off and hit the headlight switch, turning it off. In a well-lit area, this has gotten me pulled over a number of times, when I didn't realize they were off.
  10. I just read rdsk8ter's thread on the March of Dimes, and it gave me an idea. I was thinking of starting a thread where members could be made aware of some charities that other members are a part of or know of anyone that could benefit from it. I'm poor, and can't even afford a 5-dollar donation, but would like to help in some small way. I regularly volunteer for my old Boy Scout Troop, and have done several computer orientation classes for the elderly (and not-so-elderly), and it would be nice to see tax dollars going into a worthy cause, as opposed to some "Save The Aardvarks!" campaign. URL's to rdsk8ter's thread and March of Dime site, respectively: http://forums.hybridz.org/showthread.php?t=120140 http://www.walkamerica.org/randyfryer This can easily turn into a politics debate, so PLEASE choose your words carefully. I'd hate to see this get closed prematurely. A URL to JimzDat's Breast Cancer thread: http://forums.hybridz.org/showthread.php?t=120364
  11. 283Z, I'm right there with you. I was driving home from a club in Dallas a couple months ago, at a rather sedate 42mph-ish on what I thought was a 40mph zone. It was 4am, I had to get up for work at 8am, and my temp liscense (from CA) was two days from expiring, so I was NOT looking to give anyone and excuse to pull me over. as I was cresting a hill, a cop cresting it from the other direction saw me, turned on his lights, turned around and slapped me with 54 in a 35. Now, It was my first ticket for anything, and I played the events over and over in my head, and there is NO WAY he could have accurately clocked me unless 1: he had his radar gun pointed at that side of the road whilst driving, or 2: I was anywhere NEAR 54mph. Most cops are alright, but this guy... It was actually one of the reasons I left Texas. That, and if you're not driving a pickup, you're a speedbump, and will be treated accordingly...
  12. Here's one for you. Geico, Allstate, Progressive, State Farm, Esurance, etc offer insurance for 49 states. Massachusetts is the ONE state they don't insure. When I was in CA and TX, my insurance for my cars was between 200-532 dollars. All were sporty cars (coupes, stick, etc). My 86 Buick, when I was 20, was insured for 1900 dolloars every six months in MA. Apparently, Boston's a great place to be from, but not to be...
  13. I'm sorry I kinda knocked the thread off course for a bit. Wheelman: To clarify, with all of my cars up to this point I could (and have) smack into a hill or scratch the hell out of without any real guilt (other than continuing to drive it). Suddenly, I have this 30-year-old shiny piece of automotive history that very well might be worth something in another 30 years. Taking a hacksaw to it just kinda...I dunno...seems wrong. Then again, I'm 22. What the hell do I know?
  14. lol...I've seen maybe 20 Fieros in my short time on Earth and have seen pistons pop out of two of 'em. It also seems as though the best thing about them is to turn them into 'another' car...
  15. Well, it would work if enough people try it. There'd be a lot less cars going around!
  16. Once again, I find myself very fortunate to have come across this site first. Stock cars are nice and all, but getting pounced time after time by a '91 civic gets old very quickly. That said, I do feel kinda guilty when I'm planning the lsx swap...
  17. Here's an option: '86-'87 Honda Accord LX-i Hatchback. They only made them for those two years, and it's a blast to drive! It gets great mileage, shares many parts with the CRX and Preludes, and looks pretty similar to a corolla. I loved mine, and it was hard to choose between it and the 280z when I had to. It's that good. RX-7: MAAAANY problems with the first gen. It would turn into a monetary blackhole just to maintain it. Corolla: good luck. 200sx: I dunno, never had one.
  18. Nice... What's really funny is having a civic and a 240sx racing long distance, and both were governed at 110mph:) That said, I needs me a V8!
  19. Funny thing happened today. You'd think after having read (and posted) in this thread I would have done differently...but... I was driving in typical Boston traffic, driving just a bit too close to the guy in front of me (an SUV), with him riding the ass of the car in front of him. We were on a small road in a storefront area when the SUV suddenly took a right turn up a street, revealing the cars at a dead stop at the light right in front of where he had turned. I didn't need lock up the brakes, but I had to stop now. I did, but I was now in front of the small side-street intersection blocking both a car and a delivery truck. I backed up a foot (all I could) to let the car squeeeeze by, but I was dead center in the trucks path and he wasn't going anywhere. Now, if I were in his shoes, I would be mildly annoyed, but understanding. After all, he had front-row seats to what had just happened. Did he wait (im)patiently? Nope. He revved, moved forward, and stopped a couple times until he was less than a foot away from my P/S door in an attempt to what can only be construed as trying to scare me. {aside} I'm a young white guy in an expensive-looking shiny silver car in a 'bad' neighborhood. {/aside} That was it for me. I turned on my hazards and waved the guy behind me to go around once the light went green. I then very slowly and casually pulled a cigarette out and lit it, then put my elbow out the window and just stared him down for a good ten seconds before I slowly started moving. To say that he was livid doesn't do his expression justice. I shouldv'e ignored it, and I usually do ignore such idiocy, but he got under my skin in just the right way. I've been in combat where I've shot and been shot at, I've been married, I've been divorced, and lost nearly everything I owned at one time. Not many people can walk up and intimidate me, and he sure as hell wasn't going to be one of 'em. That said, I'm an idiot:(
  20. Wow. Now I know I'm poor... I've had my 77 280z since August of '06, after selling my 93 240sx coupe se for the funds. The day I left CA for TX, I sold my 86 accord lx-i hatchback because I could only drive one car. Realistically, it would have made MUCH more sense to keep the accord and never to have bought the 280z. I drove it as a DD in TX, drove it to Boston by way of VA, and still use it as a DD now. No A/C. No radio. 4-speed MT. Smaller-than-stock wheels. Wouldn't have it any other way EDIT: except maybe the wheels...
  21. Wow... There it is, my marriage and divorce in a nutshell and thoroughly and logically explained!
  22. What really makes me stop and think is that I'm the guy who would do exactly what he did!
  23. Along the highway between 29Palms, CA and Las Vegas (rte 66 I believe) there are dozens of miles of road where memorials are done up. The road has a slope going up on each side, and the memorials are usually painted rocks forming names and initials. There're also a lot of "John hearts Jane" and the like. The road is never heavily travelled, and it helps break up the monotony of a couple-hour trip. All that said, I agree with you, with the exception of a cross hanging right before a turn I don't know. Very sobering indeed.
  24. When I was in Texas, I used to get high-beamed all the time. I wasn't cutting anyone off or anything, it's just that people in there lifted trucks loved to f--k with the little guys. It eventually got so annoying that I spent a half-hour learning which angles my rearview mirrors would have to be in order to reflect it back into his/her eyes. It was marginally successful, but because of those guys trying to impress their recent pulls from bars/clubs, I was this close to buying one of those hand-held, high-powered spotlights. I agree with Two40MuscleZ, and if you do pick a battle, use overwhelming force and end it quick!
  25. I would go on a psychopathic, GT-R arson-spree. What would you do if you were a reasonably experienced IT guy earnestly looking for a good career and everyone in your family insists that you work at either Lowes or McDonalds!?
