  1. From my own experience: 1986-87 Honda Accord LX-i Hatchback. I got one a couple years ago for $300. It was surprisingly fun to drive, in addition to back seats and plenty of room. It also got great mileage. Try to get the 5-spd manual with fuel injection. I could only take one car with me when I left CA, and I almost took it with me instead of the Z.
  2. Not really much happens in NH, sorry to say. Last time I went to one of their meetings, they were really excited about their 250hp club car . That was over a year ago, though. Baddogparts.com is based there, though, and is worth checking out. There's also a dragstrip on the southeast part of NH. Also, watch your speed. NH troopers LOVE out-of-state plates, particularly if they're Mass plates!
  3. They're all wrong. Chemist: The glass is full of water, Nitrogen, Oxygen, and other trace elements
  4. I am the product of a single mother household and I like to think that I've turned out fine. I did and still do love my mother, and think she was great. BUT, there were (and are) a lot of things that I've had to learn for myself that would've been much easier had someone been around to teach me, including things that you probably wouldn't think of. I had no idea what the hell 'credit' was or how it worked until I was 18. I had no idea how to repair anything other than a computer. I did not know anything about responsibility or finances. I didn't even know how to handle myself around other men. It took joining the Marine Corps to get a little backbone. My father never really took an interest in our lives until after his second wife left him in '04. I finally met the guy 6 months ago, and I must say I'm not impressed. All that said, I really do wish you the best of luck in this ordeal, and I hope it does turn out for the best for you and especially your son. Boys really do need a dad.
  5. Oddly enough, I was looking at the space just in front of the inspection lids thinking "Hey, i could fit an m249 in there!". It would have to be the newer, more compact version, though. Then I thought about about weight. The motors necessary to lift and aim them would be too large. Then I remembered the automatic airsoft rifle...and the paint pellets... More on this later!
  6. Tim240z, I've read - and reread - this thread. Now, I have searched for and found many threads pertaining to drivetrain options, but oftentimes they conflict with each other or are in some ways incomplete. Firstly, does it have to be axles from a q45? I've purchased a r230 ('92 300zxTT) that happened to come with two axles that seem to be in good condition. Just the same, I'll be getting new axles when it comes time to modify them. I just figured they would be a cheaper (stronger?) alternative. Secondly, assuming the axles and differential are all sorted, what would you recommend for the other end, and how would it affect the axle modification, if at all? It's my intent to upgrade/replace all of the wearable parts in the car, with an emphasis on improving performance. This is where the concern for suspension, and 5-lug brakes and wheels arises. Lastly, do you still or are you willing to accept a commission to build a finished set (or two)? If so, how much would it cost us?
  7. I was recently in Kabul doing work for the Army and other agencies. PM me which AO you'll be in, and I'll be able to give you a good idea. A surprisingly large amount of the members here work over there as military and civilians. Big question to ask employer: does your base or unit follow the new General Article 1, or the old one?
  8. Here's what you're basically asking: You: Hey, man. Can I borrow twenty bucks? Friend: Nope. Sorry. I don't have any cash on me. You: Oh. In that case, would you mind robbing a bank for me? I really need it so I can call my girlfriend. Essentially, "hacking" your password from a corporate network and robbing a bank would both take a lot of time and planning. In either case, it wouldn't be worth the possible (read - guaranteed) repercussions for what you would gain. You're better off calling around to get her info from friends and family. Don't tell them what happened, though, because she'll be even more ticked if you air out the dirty laundry. Also, NEVER write down your username or password!
  9. Another big selling point for me was that it comes with all the sensors, wiring, the computer, and built tranny. I was going to go the gmperformanceparts.com route and try to find a tr-6060 to match it, but finding one for sale from a reputable company was proving very difficult. I was worried about the t56's ability to withstand the amount of torque that would be thrown at it. With built syncro's and gears, combined with their feedback and the fact that they use it themselves, I was pretty much sold from the word go. My main worries were fitment and parts availability. The intent of this project is to build a car with low maintenance cost, good gas mileage (compared to the original engine), great power-to-weight ratio, and many of the modern amenities we enjoy in cars today. I know I could go a cheaper route, but after 18k I think I'll be happier than if I'd gone and used the money on a new car. Of course, once I'm done, I'll go straight back to another tour in Afghanistan so I can save up for a house! The things we'd do for our Z's, eh? -Ryan
  10. Your sentiments on the price mirror my own. As a bookish computer guy, I truly want to go the simpler route. I saw your posts in the other thread, and considered just asking these questions there, but felt it would have gone outside the scope of the thread. Based on your opinions, I believe I'll go with the corvette accessories, with the 58-tooth crank. Again, thank you.
  11. Heya, I've come across a LS3 I'm about to buy, but I have some questions for the LS-series owners/experts here. But first, the item in question: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Parts-Accessories___LS3-CHEVY-ENGINE-500-HP-T56-TURNKEY-FITS-LS1-LS2-LS6_W0QQitemZ370116798716QQddnZPartsQ20Q26Q20AccessoriesQQddiZ2811QQcmdZViewItemQQptZMotors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories?hash=item370116798716&_trksid=p4506.c0.m245&_trkparms=72%3A543|65%3A12|39%3A1|240%3A1318 Given these choices, which would be better and why? Yes, I've searched, but don't understand everything, and the relevant articles aren't from a Z-car perspective! 24-tooth, or 58-tooth? Z28 accessories or corvette? I'd appreciate any help you guys can give. -Ryan
  12. A couple years ago, I was in the same situation with disastrous results. I got home from Iraq, married my gf, and developed an interest in cars (now that I had one!). I got a non-running 79 Trans Am with the 403 Olds motor that I was going to build up over time. It became a huge point of contention between me and the wife. It ended up being a factor when she decided to leave me. Oh, and the car? Ended up selling it for $200. The question becomes: What would you rather lose? Like it was said before, wait until she's off doing her own thing before you sneak into the garage!
  13. Heya, I was looking for a LS3 for a swap I'm starting, and came across this auction for one that was/will be built. I demurred at the price, but it's probably cheaper in the long-run. Anywho, I just wanted to point out this powerseller with 100% positive feedback. Something I've never seen with an automotive dealer on ebay! 14. The green ones might be theUSMC version. They ARE crazy warm I miss them, and the two Navy ones I had
  15. Y'know, I used to be one of those people that rolled there eyes whenever they went through the routine, wondering why they even bothered going through the details we'd all heard again and again. Until I flew Emirates Air

Anyone have an idea as to where I can get a new one? The intent is to marry it up to an LS3 (well, an ls376), but strangely enough, gmperformanceparts.com doesn't offer it. I've searched here, google, and have found gear ratioes(sp?), but nothing as far as sales. I must stress that new is important, unless someone knows a little old lady with a newer 'vette that's been totaled with 2 miles on it. Also, any suggestions as to other trannies wouldn't go amiss. Thanks in advance!
  17. ... Am I the only one who was reminded of the Mad Max series...?
  18. Haha, wow. I was still a sophmore in highschool, and had never even heard of a Z... Come to think of it, I wasn't even into cars, then
  19. I liked the comparison to the Wright Bros. first flight!
  20. "Chicken never reaches side of road. Police suspect fowl-play."
  21. Dungeons and Dragons, LAN Gaming, reading, painting Battlefleet Gothica models, studying for a carreer in Computer Forensics, Battletech... um...Am I in the right forum? Oh, yeah, and trying to figure out what the hell to do with the 280z rusting in my mother's driveway! And driving.....really, really fast.
  22. I'm gonna have to. I was at work about a week ago when I overheard one soldier telling another that, upon hearing I was in the Marines, I wasn't a 'real' Marine. Being a mature and respectable guy, I challenged him on the spot to his choice of an Army or Marine PFT. This'll be fun, as I haven't done anything considered exercise since I got out 1.5 years ago.
