  1. If you have configured your ini file to use 1-2v for 10-20AFR you may want to change to 0-5v for 10-20AFR. I have seen that recomended several times on msefi.com. Just gives better resolution for the analog to digital conversion.

I have seen complaints over there that the megatune AFR gauge reads different than the innovate gauge.

  2. This may not answer your question completely, but megasquirt with MSnS_extra code controls fuel and spark. Any engine benefits from better control of fuel and spark. The engine can be tuned to perform the same regardless of which system you swap to ie- megasquirt, SDS, haltech, Z31 ecu, etc

The selection of the system will come down to other arguments: price, support, reliability (doesn't seem to be an issue with any system nowadays), features, installation.

Price and features were my main concerns, but yours may vary. MSnS_Extra code is the best bang for the buck when you look at the features available(if you need the features). MSnS_Extra has many features that only benefit turbo installs.

Probably the single biggest thing to be aware of with megasquirt is that it is a speed density system so there is no mass air flow meter. This can be a problem if you run a very large camshaft because megasquirt works from manifold pressure which varies wildly with a big camshaft at lower rpms.

The next thing is that megasquirt only supports batch firing of the injectors, so research that and make sure it is not a hangup for you.

BTW, the megasquirt may exist because it is tough to install and there are a lot of questions to answer, or because it is pretty good??????:D

  3. It's as simple as that!!!!!

No, its not. To make it that simple you have to boycott all oil companies and not use any oil whatsoever, then it becomes that simple. Then you could negotiate your price. Otherwise you are a pimple on an alephants *** and all you do is cause them to change their business plan a little.

  4. The brakes are nice. I put about 40 rounds through my remington 300 ultra mag and then had a high quality brake put on it. First time out I put 3 rounds at 100 yards touching each other, no more anticipation. It was no pleasure to shoot without a brake. BTW, the 300 RUM is a nice round, but I still like my old hand me down 308 Model 788 remington.

  5. The big question I guess, do you have an exhaust manifold to bolt the turbo up? Also what are you doing for the oil drain back from the turbo into the oil pan? Is your turbo water cooled also, or just oil cooled? Looks like you are just down to plumbing up the turbo and the intercooler. What kind of intercooler do you have?

  6. Not surprising, a couple years back what got me started on the turbo swap was a call to datsun only junk yard that I had frequented for a year and the guy said he was going out of business, luckily I called when I did because it only gave me a week to pick throught the parts, then everything went to scrap. He had around 20-30 z cars and several engines, trannies, etc. It was sad, but I didn't have the money to stock up. He claimed the job was too stressful and I think he actually enjoyed junking the cars just to get back at the customers he didn't like???

  7. I think of that paradox episode where the people plug the jack into their head to enter the VR game and nobody wants to come back out and be in the real world. Maybe it will consume enough people that the traffic on the interstate will lighten up.

  8. My first inclination would be that something happened during the alarm system install that caused the megasquirt memory to become corrupted. The easiest thing to try is to reflash your code and settings back on the unit. I have heard of many instances like this, but I have never had to re-flash my code.

  9. FWIW, that is how I piped my IC. 2" from the turbo compressor across the engine bay between the engine and radiator, then went to 2.5" to match the intercooler couplers and throttle body size. On my new setup with the talon I am doing 2" the entire way to the throttle body, but it is much tighter to route IC pipes.

  10. Just as an update to this thread, I bought and installed the S&W racecars cage/roll bar system, 8 point. It was something like $180 with shipping. I had my brother weld it in since he is certified. I looked into pipe benders for my 34 pontiac project and they are indeed $1400 with a few dies for one that can do a cage type job. I was very happy with the S&W setup, but I am easy to please. At the time I made this thread I was very naive on a lot of points, and I am still am on a lot of points :). I'll give you the Katman response to save him the time, if you want a roll cage in your car to make it look cool buy the S&W or JEGS, otherwise if you want one for racing or to really save your life have a shop install a certified cage.

  11. I just installed 850cc injectors on my Talon 4G63 engine. I believe MSnS also supports dual staged injectors. I am not going that route because I talked to someone tuning 2 liter four cylinder engines with 800-900cc injectors and got some tips on smooting the VE table at idle and lowering fuel pressure a pound or two for fine tuning idle. So I am going to try that and see how it does.

  12. but you could just use a nice digital voltmeter

I checked on them but a nice one runs around $200 and you know me, cheap b@stard. :D

Its more of an exercise to play around with. And the digital voltmeter will have the decimal in the wrong place, picky picky, I know. Now I just need to find a nice looking cheap enclosure for the big seven segment display.

  13. That is what it looks like, instead of connecting a wire from the ignition switched 12 volts to coil positive you would instead connect a wire from the fuel pump connection on the relay board, that way the coil is only powered when the fuel pump is powered, so two wires.

  14. I think you are right on all the points, even the article pointed out that all of the ecotec aftermarket parts available right now will not work with this new engine since the head and pistons are special to support the direct injection and virtually everything else was changed. The torque curve does look like fun though. I didn't notice the 5300rpm redline in the article.
