  1. 10 degrees is adequate and realize that it only soft limits for a fixed time because running continously with retarded timing under load will cause a cherry hot exhaust manifold and turbo IIRC, since it fires late and will still be burning on the way out if too late. Ask Tony D about that, I remember his story of an aewsome spooling turbo that quickly melted down with wildly retarded timing.

  2. What don't you know how to tune?

    Spark table

    Fuel table

    acceleration

    after start enrichment

    using the wideband meter

    tuning with autotune

    tuning manually with a friend

    using target AFR tables

    Start steering us in the right direction so we can help.

    What does the wideband show right now for idle? cruise? under load?

    Get a friend in the passengers seat with megatune open and drive down the road holding the dot in different parts of the map and he can adjust the fuel in, that works great with the wideband meter and I know you have one.

  3. Thats right, because once I learned how to tune it I changed over to the MSnS_Extra code, which also isn't in the sticky, my settings for it are in the map sharing sticky. 021u code

    The sticky is very very basic and was written for MSnS original Magnus code. It really should be re-written for MSnS_extra and include real tuned settings for timing and fuel (when I used wideband and 450cc injectors).

  4. Set you max advance at idle, like around 35 or so. Should make it idle nice, and give good throttle response. Then gradually back off your timing until you reach your max advance.

    I am confused after reading those two sentences?? I set timing at idle to 23 BTDC, then increase up to 38 BTDC by 3000 rpm, at any place in the timing map I remove 1 degree of timing per psi of boost.

  5. Remember that the only reason I used a GM HEI module was because the old megasquirt code back then could not do dwell. Since dwell control has been added you can use any transistor to fire the coil. The GM HEI 4 pin module would control dwell well enough on its own to work with the really old code.

  6. when you are rotating the dizzy by hand you are causing the optical disc of the CAS to pass through the light beam in the dizzy, that is what triggers the megasquirt and causes the center LED to come on.

  7. wish you all that are contemplating a bike as an alternative form of transportation would stop and think about all the people that you know or heard of that have been in an accident and then think or count how many were on bikes and survived as compared to a car.

    Good point, of all my 31 years I know of two people that crashed on bikes, road rash in both cases.

    For cars, I have one dead cousin from car wreck, dead high school friend, car wreck, another high school friend in coma for one week, car wreck, wifes sister car wreck, fractured neck, Best friend in high school nearly died when he crashed his 66 mustang, got scalped by the rear view mirror, your right, I'm selling my car :)

    I Have known a lot of bike riders but I can't remember one that got hurt bad on a bike, real easy to think of hurt and dead people from car wrecks. I know what you mean, but man a lot of people get hurt in either case.

  8. On this topic I drove one of the toyota Prius cars last weekend just because someone I know has one, that person gets 50mpg and it was pretty nice to drive. I didn't go out on the freeway with it. Doesn't look as nice as my bike though, IMO.

  9. I've GOT to buy a motorcycle!

    I just picked up an 81 Suzuki GS1000 shaft drive cruiser last week for $950. Excellent condition, garaged its whole life. I started driving it to work this week, 60 mile round trip each day. I got 48mpg on the first tank, and pretty fun to get back on a bike.

  10. When I'm not working on the cars I work with real horse power :mrgreen:

    That is me on the far side driving and a couple friends riding along. Thorin is my horse, I do all the training with him. He was only 2 1/2 years old in this picture. This year he has grown up a lot and matured a lot. He is also broke under saddle. This fills many of the other areas in life that cars can't satisfy.

  11. This topic also interests me because I am entertaining the idea of fuel injecting my GS1000 which is air cooled. I was thinking about mounting a sensor against the engine and then calibrating it with a thermocouple we have here at work.
