List your dumbest auto related screw up
SHADY280 replied to Workinprogress's topic in Non Tech Board
i got my hand caught between the fuel rail, and the valve cover, with no tools within reach. my dad ended up removing the valve cover some time later. -
the glass pack makes the car bark, and kind of will help as a pre-muffler. it wont really smooth things out, but will change the note a bit and make it a nano quieter.

super trapp must be cleaned all the time as well. they seem to get carboned up and dont flow too well.. they use the same kind of setup on harleys and other mc's.

thanks for the suggestion, this is the kind of creativity im looking for. so pop rivet eh. hmmm did you recess them into the rear lip to keep the rear lip as thin as possible? im trying to keep the rear very thin so it meets up to the the side of the car with little mods, or sticking out further than the cars body

hey guys wondering if anyone has put a 82 ecu into a 79 car without turbo. all my searches here end up with turbo swap results. my biggest concern is the altitude switch, where is it on a 82 and is it ness. and the other 4 wire plug. i know one wire goes to the fuel pump relay, but what aboot the others? do they need to be used, or can i just run switched power or ground leads to them. ive been following the haynes wiring diagrams, but the 2 cars look very different when it comes to the wiring part. any help would be appreciated.

Toyota 4-piston brakes on a 280ZX
SHADY280 replied to defrag010's topic in Brakes, Wheels, Suspension and Chassis
i tried this, seems that it would work, i got the calipers, marked sw on the side (these are the wide ones) so im gonna try one day. you are correct aboot the threading thing tho. id say make an offset adapter to maintain bolt diameter -
hey whats kersley cost for a full port/ flowbench? zoltan is the local guy in abbotsford, but extemely costly, but he knows his stuff.
-
well start by if you want turbo or n/a. then how much you have to spend. 300 hp sounds like your gonna need boost! f54 block. and p90/p79 head. start there, best be buying a turbo parts car.

Blue foam for fiberglass mold ? what is it
SHADY280 replied to gretchen/jason's topic in Fabrication / Welding
blue foam can be bought from home depot. and dont directly touch the resin to white foam, or you end up with brown goo. pink foam is also available, not much difference with blue. -
i was running 11.8:1 comp ratio, and have re-used my gasket 5 times, no copper no anything other than spraying it clean. it never leaks and works great, they are made to be re-used. once the rubber wears off, then id use the copper spray. dont ask why ive done it 5 times. it takes me 1 hour to pull the head from running, and 1 more hour back to running again

if you use chicken wire, just form it (cause it moves real easy) hook it together with wire, then once you have the shape, cover both sides with some mat. then smooth and paint, you can also use cardboard as stated above for flat areas, but the wire works well with curves. use a glue gun to get the cardboard to stay put. fiberglass is forgiving if your making something like a custom sub box, it doesnt have to be perfect, thats what bondo is for!

your soldering the side you would normally light the cigarette with, therefore creating a flow through the unit. dont hook a ground up to the lighter center post, it now becomes the "out" flow to the relay, and the stock "in" wire is the power that does the relay switching. i wish i could give ya a diagram, but im not that savy. when the lighter is pushed in, it connects the circuit with the little spring prong in the bottom so ya can start your car, pull it and no power. it probably be best to stop power to the coil and starter, then the crook has 2 things to look for. and its easy to hide in the engine bay harness and make look stock. make sure to use fuses, and solder all connections and heat shrink. dont go cheap or you could poss. get stranded somewhere.
-
kinda both things are the problem, to get it to transfer power, thats what the soldering is for, it gets rid of the resistor and transfers energy. what size wire did you use? if its for a relay, then 18 gu. is fine, if its anything else size it correctly for the amperage thats is going to flow down it. you prolly had 18 gu, just the resistor in the lighter fried it cause they use 20 amps or so.
-
the problem was prolly to small of a wire, plus no fuse. the cigarette lighter can be used, first get a spare lighter, solder it up, then make it so that when pushed in, it completes the circuit, when pulled out, no circuit. its a neat way to get it to work, but it is just a big resistor and cannot really transfer load without creating heat.

if your missing or filling the little indents, cutting the indented parts off of a fiberglass part would be very easy, plus it may look better, you will never know till ya try. the gel coat isnt all that important, its more for boats and things close to corrosion. gelcoat actually makes parts heavier, and leaving it off doesnt comprimise anything. make sure you post pix!
