I try to find out collect HEX nut size for Bilstein P30-0032 (new part#34-184530) Does anyone know the size of HEX nut? Is it M14 x 2.0?? I called Bilstein, but they don't take my call... http://www.bilsteinus.com/about-bilstein/contact.html AFTERMARKET & MOTORSPORTS HEADQUARTERS - WEST ThyssenKrupp Bilstein of America 14102 Stowe Drive Poway, CA. 92064 1-858-386-5900 AFTERMARKET & MOTORSPORTS – EAST ThyssenKrupp Bilstein of America 293 Timber Road Mooresville, NC. 28115-7868 1-704-663-7563

I have been researching the answer of right length of the inner strut tube for coilover kit with T3 camber plate. Based on my understanding the strut section FAQ is based on using factory default strut insulator. http://forums.hybridz.org/topic/38589-strut-sectioning-faq/ The height of front insulator is about 2" for 280z(as same as 240z) The rear is 3" for 280z(240z should be 2") The factory default insulator with Ground Control top hat is about 2.5" Techno Toy camber plate bottom part height is 0.5" That means T3 camber plate bottom part with GC hat is about 1". Thus, it's 1.5" shorter than using factory default strut insulator. EMWHYR0HEN mentioned after installing T3 camber plate, the height is dropped 1.5". http://forums.hybridz.org/topic/38589-strut-sectioning-faq/ John mentioned cut off about 1~2" shorten strut tube. So, if installing T3 camber plate, do I still need to section strut tube to take of any metal?

240z vs 280z strut tube length difference http://forums.hybridz.org/topic/93755-diference-in-stock-strut-length/?p=884341 I thought front strut length is same for 240z and 280z, but it looks like 280z is shorter than 240z. -

Ground Control Coilover sleeve length

yap. I ask GC to exchange 12" spring to 10" spring since I read this. forums.hybridz.org/topic/85673-ground-control-coilover-installation-instructions/ My plan is using 4" sleeve with 10" springs 250lbs/275lbs. Weld the ring 5.25" front, 8.25" rear. However, once I use camber plate, the measurement will be changed. I try to figure out how much strut tube I should cut off for both case using original strut insulator and Techno Toy camber plate. -

There are a lot of try and error to find right solution. It's frustrating, but also the feeling of archiving goal is priceless. I almost finish rebuilding transmission gear and here is my story of rebuilding tranny. 1st try and error Don't put the idler shaft onto the plate before finishing push in mainshaft and counter shaft. You cannot put counter shaft into center position of the shop press to push in. 2nd try and error You cannot put the snap ring if the direction of syncro for 3rd and 4th gear reverse. There is abig washer and no space to put snap ring if the direction of syncro is wrong. 3rd try and error You need to put the short mainshaft of main drive before you push counter gear together onto the plate. You cannot put the short mainshaft later. Tips: It's easier to push in bearing onto the counter gear before push into the plate. Tips: Use grease to hold the small ball. Tips: It is easier to rebuild tranny using wire to tide up counter shaft and mainshaft before push in the plate. 4th try and error Don't use gardening wire. It's not strong enough. That's for tomato, not for heavy metal. I end up go to HomeDepot to purchase 16g wire. Tips: Use some bar to hold the washer when push in the mainsahft to the plate. This way, you can avoid dropping the small ball. 5th try and error mainshaft nut for FS5W71B (wide ratio / from call 280z tranny) is 32354-E9802(or 32354-E9804) right hand thread. mainshaft nut for FS5W71B (close ratio / from 280zx tranny) is 32354-E9803 left hand thread. I have now 2 left hand thread mainshaft nuts now. http://www.classiczcars.com/forums/engine-drivetrain-s30/48421-rebuild-kit-280zx-5-speed-recommendations.html#post434985- 230 replies

Coilover Conversion Data sheet

Thanks Leon. Bilstein specific data sheet based from the famous Coilover step-by-step thread Coilover_Data_sheet_Bilstein_P30-0032.pdf On his thread, thehelix112 mentioned he added 9/16" with 2-1/4" OD spacer for front shock, but he did not mentioned the length of spacer for rear shock. Comparing with Tokiko, KYB shocks, Bilstein shock is shorter stroke. I wonder whether I need to have longer strut tube compare with TOKIKO / KONI coilover strut tube. I can't find the appropriate inside strut tube length for Bilstein F4-P30-0032. -

Additional Data: http://forums.hybridz.org/topic/106087-280z-coilovers-which-cartridges/?p=992467 TOKICO BZ3012, 3013, 3015, 3016 are all the same shock - same body length, same shock shaft, same total travel, and same damping. Tokico just ships different gland nuts and/or spacers to make different part numbers. -

Some additional data based on my measurement. '75 280z Front strut Entire length 16-1/4" Tube Length 13-3/4" Upto brake bracket 5" Inside length 14-7/8" Rear strut Entire length 18-3/8" Tube Length 16-1/4" Inside length 18-1/8" ID is about 49.62mm OD is about 55.06mm What I learned that important data is the inside length. The front strut length should be same between 240z and 280z, as well as 260z. -
There are a lot of information on this Hybrid Z for coilover conversion. However, for the beginner, it's really hard to understand and sometimes missing data for how much length of the strut tube need to cut. I created PDF file for your memo purpose to avoid mistake. Coilover_Data_sheet.pdf Hope this is useful. Let me know whether I should add/remove from the data sheet.

I talked to Ground Control Trevor, and he told me 4" is the right size for 280z coilover kit. Sleeve ID is about 2-3/16" welding ring ID is about 2-1/4" Top hat size height is about 3/4" -

Hi, I just got GC coilover kit for my 280z. When I unpacked, I soon realize the sleeves size is only 4". I thought the sleeve length supposed to be 5". Does anyone know whether this is right one? -
Wow, in 10 minutes! amazing speed! My car is on the jack stand waiting for installing new tranny already a couple of weeks. Thanks. Good for my future reference. Once my 71B goes bad, I will swap to 240SX tranny in the future.

So, did you use 240sx throw bearing collars or old 71B collars?

It seems like the rear end seal is used liquid gasket. I had HFT $10 Rotary Tool Kit that can be used finally. Try to use wire brush, but it does not work well, so, I used pink stone to clean up the gasket after getting rid of rubber. Great result in 10 minutes- 230 replies

Very nice shape of the body. I really like it! There are several wide body kits, but I don't see any attractive wide body Z over original shape of Z.
