  1. I bought this product, but have not installed it yet. I can say it seems to be the exact carpet that is in my 2006 BMW. Having said that, the carpet is not like carpet you are used to; it has a very low nap and is pretty thin and somewhat stiff. You would want it backed with something, like a foam pad. In my case, I have the entire car covered in a product called RAMMAT, which is like Dyanmat, but also includes 1/4" high density foam on top of the metalized product. If you want to see what the carpet is like, check out any newer BMW.
  2. You need to get a meter and check the battery voltage, but in place of that... Are you able to turn the engine over by using the screwdriver on the starter? Do the lights shine bright? If so, then the battery should be good, then the issue comes down to where is the open. It could be in the ignition switch or a loose wire. You can make jumper wires and try working around the circuits until you get it to work. It is a lot of work and hunt and peck, but in place of a meter... Best way is to get a meter and start to work your way back from the battery, using the wire diagrams.
  3. A bad ACC relay is not going to prevent starting. I am no electrical genius, but I think it is a differnt circuit. I just started my car with out the relay attached. Check the battery and connections...
  4. That is the ACC relay (at least on my 71). It should click when you turn the key to ACC.
  5. Well I am impressed. This has been an unresolved issue for a while. What does it take to make it work?
  6. Here is a link to the car...nice http://ca.geocities.com/dotdotdot@rogers.com/
  7. I posted some pictures of the finished product in my gallery here...Can't figure out how to link it here. If you want to look, it is under my user name; het976. I welded up the left over holes and powdercoated the bracket. You can see the notch that has to be cut and the squared off shaft to mount the existing Z wiper mechanicals. If you want other pictures and I can take some or if you have any questions...this is into a 5/71 build date car.

I welded up the extra holes.
  10. Dave, You are correct. The Z motor has the tab that acts as a switch. Once the power is shut off, it cycles one last time and then breaks the contact and stops in the park position. The Honda motor does not seem to have this feature, so the timming has to happen some other way. I could not figure it out, but I did not try very hard. I don't see it as an issue to park them manually. BTW, I got my Honda wiper motor for $20.00 at the local JY.
  11. Looks like a turbo Ford from a Mustang/Capri or T-Bird...I had a Turbo Bird in 84 and I have to say it was a nice car and for as big as it was, hauled butt pretty well. I have heard you can get some pretty big numbers out of them with a little work. If I am wrong, it would still be a good choice worth thinking about.
  12. My cover was sitting for a while and may have been warped a little, but it did not fit exactly right. I used a heat gun to soften it up and mold it into the guage areas and around the glove box so it fit better. Just don't melt it.
  13. I had an old washing machine that went up and down when it washed clothes. When it got out of balance it would hop accross the garage until it unplugged itself. Sold to a friend and he ended up chaining it to the wall.
  14. I would find a way to secure it to the floor...even some sandbags to hold it down would help dampen the vibrations. I would be afraid of it walking around garage.
  15. Lots of Turbo Sportsters out there. Seach the internet and you will see them. I have not ridden a turbo Sporty, but I have ridden a turbo FXR. It was an old blow-thru design done 10 years ago. It was fast, but scary to ride...kind of like my old 125 Elsinore, the throttle was an on/off switch. Here is one place I have seen...http://www.rbracing-rsr.com/harleyturbos.htm
  16. 1970, I am 13 and my sister's good friend buys a silver 1970Z, one of the first 5 in Oregon. He comes to visit and I get to go for a ride. I thought it was a cool car, but don't recall being really blown away (I was into muscle cars then). The car got distroyed 6 months later when he endos it at over 100 on I-5 in Southern Oregon. He replaces the Z with an Italia (which was a Italian sports car with a 351 clevland engine). Now that car impressed me. Fast forward to 1974 and my mom meets my step dad. He also has a 1970 240Z. I drove that car many times and really loved it, although it had a bad habit of sheiding wheel covers, which I had to pay for. I liked it enough that in 1976 I bought the 1971 that I have today. I modified and drove that car for 20 years until we moved to Colorado in 1997. No one was driving it, so rather than pay to move it, I sold it to the neighbor kid. I actully cried the night it went away...I had poured my heart and soul into that car. I always regretted selling it. Fast forward to 2007 and and I am back in the Pacific NW and can't sleep after an Asia trip - I do my "let's look for Z's on e-bay" thing and I see this car that looks like my old car, except mine had a sunroof (yes I know, stupid thing to do). It sure looked like my car, but not exactly it. I look at the picture showing the spare tire well and there is a large bold head showing...then I sure it was my car...For years I towed a ski boat with the Z and the bolt was part of the hitch. I thought, how many z's with flared fenders and a trailer hitch do you think there are? The car was local and I go over to look at it and there it was...New paint, wheels, but my car, although just a shell. Long story short, by shear luck, I win the auction and the car is mine again (I was on a plane when the auction closed and would not have won it, excpet for the other guy who wanted it got the close time for the auction confused and missed bidding on it) My 22 year old son (who never got to drive it) and I are rebuilding her from the ground up, doing it the way I would have liked to years ago. We just put the engine and trans in and have hung the front suspension, so progress is being made.
  17. A few yers ago a friend of mine, coming back from bowling, fell asleep and drove off the road. What would have been a "what a stupid thing to do" kind of moment ended tragically, when his bowling ball flew forward and hit him in the back of the head. He died instantly. The car could be driven away.
  18. I just did mine on my '71. Yours looks a little different, but here is a picture of it "unscrewed". Maybe this helps. From left to right: Round part is fixed to the rack and does not turn The thin nut in the center is a jam nut. The large domed part is the inner tie rod and it threds on to the rack. If you need other pictures, let me know.
  19. Those are not the flares I have, mine are much more subtle and thinner. I have seen those flares on a car and they seem to be 1/2 inch thick. Check out this old thread... http://forums.hybridz.org/showthread.php?t=101335
  20. Good catch Olderthanme...I did the search on Showcars...did not read it all, but man what a mess. I bought my flares from the local "Datsun" dealer in Portland, Or. He ad them in stock at the time, hanging on the wall behind the parts counter.
  21. It is not hard. I was like 20 and had no experiace when I did it years ago. I did the new innerlinners from an old hood, pop riveted to the existing linner and fiberglassed to the flares. 30 years later they still are bonded and doing fine. Laying on my back with fiberglass resin running down my arms and dripping into face face is one of my memories from that time. That and getting hell for messing up my girlfriend's blow dryer with resin sticky hands.
  22. Just to be clear, the flares I have must be molded into the body. They do not go over the fenders, so if you are going to get it painted before the flares you will have to re-paint after you do the flares. The body has to be cut and in the back, new inner fender liners fabricated. It is a fair amount of work, but not impossible (I did it, so how hard can it be).
  23. Sorry to hear of your loss. It is great you are going to finish this for his parents. It sounds like they will enjoy the car. Here is a link to some flares that might be what you are looking for. They are the same ones that I have on my car. If you have questions installing them you can PM me any time. I did mine over 20 years ago, but I still think I remember how to do it, LOL. Good luck and welcome http://www.showcars-bodyparts.com/240z.html
