Ok..my first question here. Yes I searched and I am sure someone will find it, but...Has anyone powdercoated the rubber/metal part of the motor mount assembly? I have done dipsticks and not had the rubber melt, but not sure about these as they seem softer. Any thoughts or experiance?

The right side rear hatch was almost as bad as yours. I cut the rear section out of a donor 280 and fabbed it in. I have very limited skills but it turned pretty well with a minor amount of bondo. The issue was the 280 I took it from has a slightly different shape than my 240, but it was close enough to be perfect to me. Peeled back the top panel Cut out the offending material (the patch panel is in the background) Fabed bottom panel Welded in donor part Looks like new

On every "custom" stereo install I have ever had done, I end up tearing it apart and doing it all myself. It just seems that there are very few craftsman out there...everyone's motto seems to be..."that is good enough". I had wheels put on the roadster this weekend and the lug nuts putting on the lug nuts only engaged about 1/2 the threads on the lug nut and said..."that is good enough"...I said, no it's not and made them special order the right lug nuts. Geeze people...

Thinkin about buying car(body kit ident help)
het976 replied to Tombarace14's topic in Body Kits & Paint
I would say it is custom, based off flairs I have. The rears look like the ones on my car, with the back half seriously modified (which means a lot of work was done to blend them in, bondo or fiberglass, still lots of opportunity for cracks to develop). I think the front flairs are also the same ones I have, but even more modified. -
I agree, that would really help.

Ben...Z3, not M3...much cheaper. In the shot there, the seats were at the top of the travel to see if they would hit the roof. I was just showing how Andy sat in the seat. When they are lowered to the bottom they fit well. I have a 31-32 inseam and I fit the seat and car perfectly. Lots of adjustability. You understate your fab skills, I have been over and under the Roadster and it is well done...

I have Z3 seats from the BMW sport car in my 71. They fit well and seem pretty tall, the kid in the picture is my oldest son who is 6'2". Find a Z3 in a used car lot and check it out. I got mine in leather with heat and 6 way power for $150.00. We had to fab some mounts, but for a master fabricator like you, that would be no problem.

Could you put a resistor in the circuit to make it more usable at the lower end?

I have a 71 that I owned for 20 years, sold 10 years ago and found on eBay 4 months ago. We are putting the engine (2.8 NA) together today and I hope to have it on the road before the end of summer. It is a shell and we are powdercoating and painting EVERYTHING. She will be sweet again soon.

Years ago there was a guy who wrote for Autoweek that got busted for some charges that he felt were not true. I do not recall all the details so I won't go into them here...but he a plate that said CORRUPT...did not make sense until you looked at the frame which said..."Support Your Local" on the top and "Police" on the bottom...I always thought something like that (not that specific message tho) would be a cool idea

My 350z is totaled!!!... Next car should be: 350z,M Coupe, Z06?
het976 replied to Thumper's topic in Non Tech Board
The E46 M3 simply rocks...true 4 place and with a little work easily sub 5 sec 0-60 combined with one of the most beautiful bodies ever crafted. All with BMW engineering and craftmanship. I have an 06 330 ZHP coupe and I my next car is the M3 before they change over to the new design. -
I will be there one of the days...I am in Hong Kong this week, so who knows which day I will be awake during the day. Not sure I will know any of you, but it will be nice to see some cars. The Z won't be there...next year

My other project is an MGB. It was in process when I found my old Z and is now in storage while I complete it. The big deal with the MGB is to put the 3.4 Chev V6 and 5 speed. It is pretty easy to get 220 HP with this engine in farily stock trim. There are a couple of guys making kits with headers and mounts. Fits really nice and looks great when done. Makes for a fast little convertable, compared to the 70 hp stock motor.

Some guys are powdercoating unibodies. The jury is out on this as the heat to cure it tends to warp thin panels. It is a good rust inhibitor and forms a better bond than any paint and is a good base for bondo. It also gets into all the nooks and crannies. I have seen it done in several write ups in magazines.

Anyone try this 5 lug conversion?
het976 replied to ruggedbert's topic in Brakes, Wheels, Suspension and Chassis
I have them on my car, but I have not driven them, but they look well made. Keep in mind, the will push your wheels out 2". -

My 2000 was a 1970 and this was in 1975, so it was not an old clapped- out car, but it snapped timming chains constantly and always bent valves each time (5 times in 18 months). Then the jacksaft broke and finally the cam broke in half. It still ran on the 2 front cylinders and that time I drove it home. I sold it after that. I got a lot of experiance being towed...miles and miles...a tow truck would have made life simpler, but I would have lost the education in being the breakman on a runaway train (with my dad towing me).

hub adapter? bump/bound?
het976 replied to driftz240's topic in Brakes, Wheels, Suspension and Chassis
I have 4 lug to 5 lug 2 peice adapters on my 71 240Z that are 2" thick. They are not hubcentric as I understand the term. Is that what you are looking for? I know it is wider than what you are looking at. The company is Skulte...http://www.Skulte.com. I also have 1/2" spacers on my 06 BMW 330 coupe that are hubcentric and they work great. I had to get longer wheel studs, but I have had ZERO problems with them. On the BMW, is was for looks to get the wheel out to the fender more. I bought them thru the same guy I got my H&R srpings from, but I think H&R carry the spacers. -
Gloss black Ginger or Mary Ann??
