  1. Or maybe, when I finish my Z car I can fall in with a rough but tight nit group of street racers. It will be hard at first but after I save there leader from the police after our first race he will invite me to his house for a party. And just maybe he will have a really hot sister. I know that in the end they will turn out to be highway pirates and my moral fiber will be tested to its very core. But hey it sure will be fun fixing up an old burned out supra in their garage. We would put on TWO bottles of NOS! One bottle is for girls! Oh wait... I guess they have already made a movie about that...
  2. Mike, I really do wish it was that easy. There is no one in this town that is between the ages of 20 and 30 and not married. I went to a church (the only large church in town) a few weeks ago. The singles class had five people. Two of them had obvious mental issuse. One was there to take care of those two and the other two were in there fifties. When I asked if there were any young single people in town they asked "how long have you been divorced?" When I told them I have never been married I think they wrote me off as being gay or something! Anyway, Im sure they are out there and I have been on two dates in the last couple of weeks but holey cow this is not at all like Chattanooga (where I just moved from). I guess I just need to start collecting cats now so I can become the old crazy cat guy or something.
  3. Okay here is the situation. I about two months ago I was transfered to a small town in Tennessee called Dickson. My wife to be at the time didnt take well to the move and now she has moved on. Now that I am out trying to meet new people I am realizing why they call this place DICKson! Its all dudes! Everyone my age at work is married so there is really no one to hang out with. All of them say that they wish they were in my shoes but this loanly crap is killing me. I guess I really should be happy. Im only 26 years old. I have a degree in Mechanical engineering and am a Six Sigma Blackbelt for DuPont. I own my home. I drive a 2002 truck. I pull in around 70K a year. I dont have anyone (except my dog) to get upset when I spend time/money on my Z. My company will be moving me in two years. Someone please talk some since into me!!!
  4. I am not sure what year they are but I dont think there is any difference except for some color shade changes. Mine are tan leather and I think the older ones are darker than mine. My drivers side seat is in less than perfect condition and I think I will be using the leatherique kit on them both once I get carpet. The seats were $185 for both but it ended up costing my $80 to have them shipped. All in all I think I came out okay. You may want to look on Ebay, that is where I got these.
  5. Well guys, I broke down and bought some leather Miata seats for my 240. I have read where some people had problems putting them in but these were as easy as pie! - Pull out old seats - Remove sliders from both sets of seats - Throw away Mazda sliders - Knock upper studs out of Datsun sliders (These are the short ones that hold the sliders to the seat). - Use front hole in slider the (one you just knocked the stud out of) to mount in front hole of mazda seat. (Use same bolt that held on Mazda slider) - Drill new hole in slider for back bolt - Use die grinder to cut aprox 3/4" by 4' section out of seat pan to clear seat adjustment mechanism. - Use dremel tool the slot seat mounting holes in the floor board. (I slotted mine on the outsides of the car near the doors. This moved the seat center maybe 1/2" towards the middle of the car allowing me for more sholder room with my roll cage) - Bolt in the new seats The Mazda seats fit much better whith my roll cage. They also seem to sit a little lower than the Datsun seat. Lord knows they weigh less.
  6. i am pretty sure you can buy universal replacements at autozone
  7. I would also be interested to know if there would be problems with a vac secondary carb on a Z. I have a 750 vac secondary for my 355. I was under the impression that I could get all the adjustment I needed out of the spring? If the vac secondary will not work you can always replace the plate and change the vac secondary to a mechanical secondary.
  8. Looking at the options though I would rather just have the extra displacement. It looks like the cost would fall out around the same and the simpler the better. Plus you have the added advantage of no one knowing just how many cubic inches your running. There are a lot of people in my new town asking about the car Im building. As far as everyone else knows its a 305 out of a truck with a set of fuelie heads. Little do they know...
  9. You have a good point about blowing a 383 you would not have to worry though if you went with an aftermarket block.
  10. yeah mike, the 35" wheels make it look cool too!
  11. One way to save on the gas is to use a vacuume secondary carb. They only have jets in the secondary plate. The primaries are preset and very small! If running only on the primaries your engine will sip gas like its a fine wine. One thing to watch out for though is that all new carbs must be tuned! You need to talk to Holley to find out what power valve and secondary spring you should start with. Most people who just bolt a carb on have really poor gas miliage due to the default power valve.
  12. Wow!! Those are some of the coolest cars Ive ever seen! Drop the price a little and bring those babies across the pond!!
  13. I am in Nashville also. My ride is still under construction but I would love to get together with some of you guy and bench race. Also, I would give my left well you know to ride in a V8 Z! I dont care if its a 305 it could have a brigs and Straton and outrun my Z that is up on jackstands! Drop me a line if you guys would like to get together!
  14. Every time someone sees my dog (I own a whippet) they laugh. They all talk about how skinny and starving he looks. He is small, standing about two foot at the shoulder and only weighs 30lbs. Then when they see him run that all changes. You see whippets can run 35+ mph. Labs and golden retrievers can hit about 25. He surprises a lot of people. I hope my Z will do the same.
  15. y2khayabusa, You say you had to dent the headers? What did that do to your coating? I have a set of coated headers and am thinking I will have some stearing shaft problems. Last thing I want to do is crack my headers!

    Slipping 700r4

From what I hear most 700R4 slipping problems are due to poor TV cable adjustment. I do know its very very hard to set up the TV cable. If you dont do this EXACTLY right you will loose your trany! Here is a link. I have not tried this info myself so just take it at face value. 700R4
  17. I have been going through the same thing. I just got some coated headers from ebay. They are a little smaller than I wanted but they work. Most companies sell block huggers for angle pluged heads. Only problem is they seem to stick out from the head a little too much. This can cause interferance problems with the stearing shaft. It will be a while before I put my engine in so I cant let you know if mine will work. If I didnt get such a good deal on these I was going to go with Heedmans block huggers for angle pluged heads.
  18. I dont think the T-5 from the ZX is the same T-5 that was in the V8 camarros or Mustangs. I would think that putting that behind a healthy V8 would be like pulling the pin on a pinapple granade!
  19. You can pick up TH350s for around $125 all day long! Only thing is you would really miss the overdrive. Here is how the tansmissions play out from strongest to weakest. Manual: T56 (Six speed, bullet proof, expensive) WCT-5 (Stronger than a regular T-5 good to around 350 hp) T-5 (Good to around 300 Hp) Auto overdrive: 700R4 (Easy to find, kind of big and heavy) 200R4 (Getting old, more expensive to make as strong as 700R4)
  20. Hey there SagZ, I think you should go for it! I am kind of in the same boat as you only Im a mechanical engineer. I have done some lite mechanic work in the past but nothing like this. I have found that the JTR book is really easy to follow. I dont know how to weld either and have had no problems. I did however have to find someone to fabricate my roll cage. I would just keep the swap simple. Try not to stray too much from what the JTR manual says. You should be fine.
  21. color that mine!!! I will give you $50 or I may have something you need. Please dont sell this to anyone else. I really need it.
  22. Okay guys what is the best place to get a tailhousing that will work in my 240? I know that JTR says the caprice tailhousing but will others work? How hard are they to find? I did a search and someone was talking about using a 350 tailhousing? Will this work? I would like to get out of this with out paying an arm and a leg for once!
  23. Oh yeah, I would at least get a stock pan with a built in baffle. I cant go with a baffle that bolts to the mains.
