  1. Okay, I agree with the air density argument on a theoretical basis but I think the black car would still be slower. Becuase the black will soak up more heat you will have hotter temps in your engine bay. I feel that the effect of the hotter intake charge will greatly outway the gains associated with the SLTD. A engine block that is surrounded by air that is five degrees warmer is not as big a deal as an aircleaner surrounded by the same air...
  2. Yeah, he has even pulled down the title darth fat A$$!!
  3. I know you guys give me a hard time for being proud of my big heavy truck and thinking its fast. I just cant seem to get over how good it pulls for a 4700lb vehicle! two days ago I was on my way back to my house when two kids in a mid to late 90s Z28 cut me off. We were in a curvy part of the road and I was kind of ridding them a little bit for jumping out in front of me. the kid in the passenger seat kept looking back at me through the hatch as we went through the turns. I knew that as soon as we hit the straight away he was going to nail it. Sure enough as soon as he was out of the last curve the passenger kid turned around and waved to me (as if to say bye bye) and the driver nailed it. I guess we came out of the turn doing 45. I stayed dead even with him all the way up to 90! At that point, I was both doing 90 in a 55 and fast approaching my turn so I let out and put on my turn signal. As I let off I saw the passenger turn to the driver and point at him laughing... I love the idea of him seeing that big A$$ truck keeping up with his sports car! Not to steal my thunder but from the looks of this car it was maybe a little long in the tooth...
  4. Also, I think the S2000 does have a supercharger... That could be what makes it the best of the bunch...
  5. turns out that that bear story isnt exactly true... The guy who shot the bear is a hunter who just shot the big bear while black tail hunting. I dont think there was any truth to the bear killing poeple or that the bear charged him. Also, it looks like one rather small bullet to the head did the trick (although it was "followed up by several others to the vitials") Who knows how big that bear really was... http://www.snopes.com/photos/bearhunt.asp
  6. Okay, I could only see one pic of the bear with the dude holding the paw. So I tried to cut and paste the other link wich was http://members.shaw.ca/xonair/bear2.jpg So I think okay, lets look at bear1 and bear3... Big mistake... Dont look at http://members.shaw.ca/xonair/bear3.jpg unless you have a strong stomach. I would love to enter old age thinking that that is a fake photo!!!
  7. but I have done a few things that were more stupid than that and I think that if everyone here were honest they would admit to the same. I actually almost met the same fate as that kid. There was a much larger jump than that near a friend of mines house when I was in early college. you could take it at 40 in his FWD honda and when you topped the hill you could feel the front tires start to spin free, so you knew they were all the way off the ground. So you can imagine what would happen when your going 60! Anyway, one night shortly after I had finished my 69 mustang we decided to hit it hard. I dont know how fast we were going but my friend (who was in the pasengers seat said that the spedo (85 mph) had been bottomed out for about 500ft. When we launched all sh!t broke loose. the nose of the car shot up and I instantly lost all concept of were the road was. We hit like a ton of bricks and the car kicked sideways. Fortunantly I have some experiance in dirt track racing that kicks in when Im in a slide. I was able to pull out. I did however crush my front air dam and cracked my windsheild! Two of my friends were watching from the side of the road and they said that the front of my car was about five foot in the air. Good thing I didnt have to die to learn my lesson.
  8. Im not sure he realizes that AWD is in most ways better than RWD. Now if you could take a RWD Z and make it into AWD... Now that would be cool!
  9. I really wish that movies like this would hire some people who actually know something about cars. There web sight lists the stats for all the cars in the movie and they are a laugh! Mitsu Evo 2.0L inline 280hp @ 4500 RPM 215 LBft @ 4500 RPM 0-60 4.9 sec 13.8 in the 1/4 Nissan Skyline 2.6L Twin Turbo 505hp @ 6000 rpm 444lb/ft @ 5500 rpm 0-60 4.9 sec 13.8 in teh 1/4 YEAH, everyone knows the evo is just as fast as a skyline! Mitsu Spyder 3.0L 210hp @ 5500 205lb/ft @ 4000 0-60 6.7sec 15.5 in the 1/4 Okay, this I can believe Porsche 911 2.0L 210hp @ 6500rpm 250lbs/ft @ 6000 0-60 4.5 sec 12.5 in the 1/4 Okay, I have a feeling they took the 0-60 and 1/4 mile times from a turbo 911! Old Chalenger (Late 60s?) 426CI 425 hp @ 5000 490 lb/ft @ 4000 0-60 6.6 sec 14.8 in the 1/4 I guess I could buy this... 03 Dodge Ram 3.7L V6 210hp @ 5200 230lb/ft @ 4000 0-60 5.5 sec 14.0 in the 1/4 This is my personal fav. I have an 03 Ram with the HEMI and they run in the mid to high 14s for a regular cab (like mine) and even with 345hp are NOWHERE near 0-60 in 5.5! NSX I can buy the stats on the NSX I will not even read what it has to say about the pink S2000!!
  10. forget what people say about fast revving 327s. The more CI you can stuff into a small block the better. Just like Grumpyvette was saying about the guys he used to race against in the 302 class. He said that no one used to cheat and build a 327! It was always a 350 or larger!
  11. Just lurk on this and other boards then when a great deal comes up on a hybrid JUMP ON IT!! I cant tell you how many times I have seen great cars that are WAY nicer than mine will ever be sell for WAY less than I already have invested in mine! Unless you just really want to have the satisfaction of building a Z buy someone elses investment!
  12. I once had a 69 mustang 351W with a Weiand Stealth intake. I had such small clearance that I had to make sure the wing nut on top of the air cleaner was turned in the same direction as the hood lines and couldnt slam the hood. Before the final paint one of the guys who worked formy dad (paint and body shop) slammed the hood. Put two nice wingnut shapped dimples in the hood! I dont know how much the engine moves on your Z but you should be fine with 2"...
  13. Okay guys thanks. I finally got the pass side fender off. I was missing a bolt (on the lower rocker) that was right in front of my face. It didnt look like it went through the fender like the other rocker bolt. Anyway, I have it off. What do you suggest using for the weather stripping looking stuff that insulates the fender from the frame? I was thinking about camper tape?
  14. what about wrapping coated headers? I know you cover up the bling bling but would it help? If so would you still have problems with rust?
  15. Hey guys, I am going to finish taking off my fenders tonight. I think I am missing some bolts. Here is what I have taken off so far. A. Bolts and screws along the top of the fender inside the engine bay B. Two screws under cowl pannel C. Two bolts next to hood hinges up front D. One bolt on bottom of fender behind front wheel well E. Headlight cone removed. Where else guys? Is there anything that goes from the inside of the car under the dash? I didnt have a whole lot of time to look but there is still something holding the fender.
  16. Ive heard it is dangerous to put cats on a chasis that didnt orginally have cats. It can be a real fire hazzard. Make sure you have a good heat shield in place!
  17. Hey guys, does anyone have any suggestions for getting my fenders off. I have some rust starting on the underside of the top of my fenders. I wanted to take them off, clean them up and undercoat them. I started removing the bolts that attach the front air dam to the fenders and sure enough they would all break free and then just spin. They were so rusted the nut just ate the threads. I am going to be using an aftermarket airdam so I can just cut the bolts and not worry about hurting my stock dam. I am worried though that the same thing will happen when I try to unbolt my fenders from the rest of the car. Has anyone else had this problem? Does anyone have any suggestions? Thanks in advance for your help Thanks in advance.
  18. Okay guys, I have read all the threads about changing to poly bushings and I think that there is no question that its the best choice and a great idea. Here is my problem... I have read that in order to install the lower control arm bushings you have to cut out the outer metal sleve. Looking at the way the arm is made this would leave all the pressure on the outer edges of the bushing with no support in the center. Also, seeing as these are stamped parts the actual holes that the bearings would go in would have verys loose tolerances (all the tollerance would be designed into the sleve your cutting out). Looking at the bushings that are currently in place I can tell they are old. At the same time there is not a lot of bushing there! It looks like the bushing is maybe 1/4" thick. Just estimating there should be no way this bushing should give any more than maybe 1/16". Seeing as this bushing is the biggest pain to change do you guys think it would be a good idea to just leave the old rubber in place for the LCAs? Some one please talk me into or out of this...
  19. Thanks grumpy... It is always great to have access to such good information!
  20. Evil, you dont have to look any further than a 350 if thats all you want! My setup should pull great to the 6000 - 6500 range. Pretty much all I have is a 350 with a solid lift steet strip cam, good breathing heads and a good flowing intake. My setup could turn a little higher maybe 7K but I went with a pretty small camshaft for the street. If you want specifics on what I am building let me know but you shouldnt have to destroke anything if all you want is 6500-7000 RPM. When you are only talking about 7K you really dont want to give up any cubic inches.
  21. If it had an overdrive I would of been all over it! Is the nose on that thing as long as it looks? I also lover the rear fenders! 8)
  22. Well, Im 6'4" 240lbs and am not fat at all! Although I have gained about five pounds from my rugby glory days! ) With all that aside. I am not questioning your story but the only way anyones mom's Rodeo could beat any Z is if they were both being dropped off a buiding! A 2002 Rodeo V6 has 205hp/214lbs of torque and weighs 3848lbs! The dude must of been changing his CD or something while you were "racing" him...
  23. Is that an all metal tilt front end???
