  1. I would LOVE to run these wheels. ...but, they need knockoffs. Image makes a very similar wheel with lug holes and a center cap with a fake knockoff, but fake knockoffs are...well, kinda dumb, almost poser. Anyone know if knockoff adaptors were ever made in 4 x 4.5?
  2. 12 cylinder engines have a tendency to be pretty smooth, no matter what the configuration.
  3. Looks as if it could have some serious blind spot issues.
  4. Not perfect replicas, but pretty darn close. Decent price, too.
  5. I've had her...him? It? for three years now and still haven't come up with something I'm happy with.
  6. Not in the Z, and not even in a car that I owned, but in a '68 Coronet in a junkyard, tucked into the headliner behind the trim, a 1" round pin-on button that said, 'Ask me about the Daytona 500' in red letters over white. Judging from how faded it was and the style of the pin on the back (extended past the body of the button with no safety catch), my guess was that it dated back to almost as old as the car itself. ...if only objects could talk.
  7. Whoa! It's off the jackstands!? COOL! Let me know if you need help with anything. And I wanna be there for the first fire!
  8. ...is it wrong that I'm not even looking at the car? Impressive backdrop. ...but whoever decided to put gloss paint on the SR-71 should be shot. Nice ride, by the way.
  9. You're right. As much as I turn a jaundiced eye to street racing, I shouldn't be talking. Real contests of speed belong on a track. A hypocrite is me.
  10. Just tore my Z apart yesterday trying to figure out why my heater wasn't working. It's starting to get cold / rainy here and there's no way I'm going through another fall and winter with fogged up windows and frostbite-inducing cold. Been there, done that in a '72 Fury, it sucked. Fixed the blower fan, turns out the fuse 'de-soldered' instead of burning out...it looked fine, but wasn't...of course, this is AFTER I traced wires all afternoon and yanked the blower fan to test it with clip leads to confirm that it still worked. DUH. Fixed a bunch of other stuff in the process, at least. Now I've got a working map light. Oooooo. At the very LEAST, you need a defroster. Arguably, unless you're ducting engine bay air over the windshield, a full race car needs some sort of defroster as well, unless you plan on only racing in warm, sunny weather. Can't race with a fogged windshield.
  11. Nobody in a hurry to get somewhere rides your ass, cuts around you, and then jumps into what little space is front of you with an open lane to their left. ...and then when you casually pass them in said open lane jumps on your ass again, and when you gun it to get away, comes after you. He was being a tool and a showoff and got shot down by a slow car. Sucks to be him.
  12. ...that might get you in trouble with some activist groups, especially their commander.
  13. Now all you need is a million bucks.
  14. ...let me preface this by saying my carbs are poorly tuned and I've got a rod knock. Looking for a new motor but I'm on a tight budget. Tracked down another L28 and 5 speed for $350, haven't moved on it yet. Was heading for the freeway entrance, had a Chevy Tahoe behind me, he gets close, swerves into the left lane, guns it around me, dives in front of me. Go you. You're so cool, you gained a carlength! And look, now you're jamming on the brakes because someone else is in front of you! I wanna be just. like. you. Typical wannabe hard SUV with a loud stereo, huge chrome wheels, loud exhaust, 'no, you can't see me officer' window tint. I get in the left lane, still behind him. I figure, let's have some fun with this idiot. Casually pass him on the left as we're getting on the (two lane) onramp. Soon as I get past him, he whips in behind me. Took the bait. Bravo. He's right on my tail. Check over my shoulder, lanes are clear. Downshift to 2nd, hit it. He's still after me, but falling back just a bit. I get in the far left lane and mercifully the lanes are mostly empty. I kept crawling away from him up through 4th gear, and at the top of 4th had put a good 10 carlengths on him. I really didn't think I'd win, but I thought I'd try. When I finally hit 5th, it was all over, and I saw his front end drop a bit when he gave up. My exit was just a mile down, and as I'm pulling off, he moves over to the lane next to me and guns it as he passes, swerves back into the far left lane. Oh, man, you showed me! All that with a stock L28 with badly tuned carbs and a rod knock! HAH! If he'd known that he REALLY would have been embarrassed!
  15. Mike, not sure if it would be more or less work, but instead of putting all of this into the misc tech section, why not just make this section public and rename it to 'Aero mods' or 'Aerodynamics'? It would be a good section to further discuss aero mods and post what we've done...and I think we should try further testing! I know I'd chip in. Now I've got to get a copy!
  16. Wasn't familiar with these. Most 510s I've seen use the same markers as a Z. Neat!
  17. Side markers, front & back. Properly placed, they might not look bad as a fender marker.
  18. From Finish Line Accessories in Florida (all sorts of fun Cobra parts, killer prices) ...been brainstorming how to use these without welding on my hood or cutting big ragged holes and kill the paint(hrm, edge roller of some sort?). They're the aluminum side vents from the fenders on a Cobra, just behind the front wheels. Set them flush with the hood, figure out a bracket, viola. Not a bad price at $75 for the pair, cheaper than the popular options for Z cars...
  19. Saw these on a BMW the other day and thought they looked a lot like some of the old Ferrari turn signals / markers. Decent price, nice chrome base for those of us that like chrome. A white bulb and amber clear Tamiya model paint, you've got something period looking...or just leave them the way they are, or even smoke them with Monogram clear tint(the stuff really works, just have to get it on evenly). Makes me wish I'd had the side marker holes welded up when I painted the Z. Oh well, I've got the Excel markers.
  20. I know I'm dredging up an old thread, but this Z is beyond cool...and the thing is HAULING on that long run. We shouldn't ignore our diesel brethren...if you gut an LD28 for the crank, have the decency to offer what's left to them. Somebody should start producing new stroker cranks for the L28 based on the LD28 crank. ...just too weird hearing a Z idle like that. Makes me giggle.
