  1. Wheelman, I have experienced the same puff of smoke on my old school 350 when running valve covers with no baffles inside. I don't know if this is relevant to your situation or not. Jeff
  2. I never have gotten my tach to communicate accurately with my 350 so I am going to buy one. I would like it to fit in the stock location. Has anybody figured this out? If so, got part numbers? I think I have seen a thread about this but couldn't find it. Thanks Jeff
  3. Ive checked and the TV valve is not pulled. I actually have a caple hooked to it, the carb end is broke, but I can push and pull the valve with the cable. If I pull on it, it makes the problem worse as you would expect.
  4. I'm being told that I may have a bad torque converter. Does this make sense to you guys?
  5. I vote we move on. On that note, It was cool to watch a fellow Z'er kick but. I can't imagine taking a car on that show that I have had for 20 years and risking loosing it. It's one thing for the guys that just slap one together, but I know I'm attached to mine more than just financially. I'd probably chicken out.
  6. The post needed to dissapear. If anyone wants to make personal attacks or insults, do it in a pm or e-mail or face to face. Not on a public forum.
  7. Guys guys, let's not pass judgment based on an editors cut. They have a way of making things look however they want. It appeared to me that "Barney" wasn't performing as it should. They even said it crapped out on the last run. I'm thru, just don't want to see any "haten" on this forum. Peace, Jeff
  8. Can someone answer this, I have this truck running, I don't have the TV cable or any electronics hooked up, when I put it into drive or reverse, even at low idle, it is trying to roll and bogging down the motor if I stand on the brake. Could the position of the throttle valve be causing this? It is a freshly rebuilt trans that has zero miles on it. I know not to drive it far without the TV cable being hooked up, but at this point, I am just interested in moving it around the yard. Thanks Jeff
  9. I have another project, a 55 1/2 chevy truck ground up restore. Anyway, I have a freshly rebuilt 700r4 (older, non-electronic) trans in it but don't know anything about it. How does the cable, (TV Cable I think its called) work and what do I need to do with the little plug on the back that looks like it should have 4 wires going to it. Now you guys know why I put a 5 speed in my Z. I'm auto ignorant!
  10. Thanks, but I won't rest until I can get the front wheels off the ground. Your videos have ruined it for the rest of us!
  11. I know, launching with skinny tires makes for boring video but it's the best I got right now. If you listen, you can hear when I can finally take it to the floor, about 2 seconds into the run. Any sooner than that and it spins and shakes. The fun part was the yuppie punk next to me in the brand new porche trying to show off for his girlfriend. http://videos.streetfire.net/video/4f0b17a5-fc35-4907-8505-990000f45c5a.htm
  12. Talk to me.... I've been trying to find a decent deal on a cowl hood for 2 years.
  13. Anybody attempted buying one of these generic fiberglass cowls and fit them to the datsun hood? I'm not afraid of the fiberglass work, just want the cowl to look like ir belongs on there. There are a ton of the cowls on ebay for $50 to $60 bucks.
  14. I spent some time looking at it last night and I think it is just blowing out of the tube. All bolts are tight and it it dry around the half shafts.
  15. On that note, what oil do you guys recommend?
  16. I have not jacked with my diff in probably 2 years with a fair amount of highway miles and probably 30 passes on it. Just seems odd that it came out of the vent now. Maybe it's just telling me "it's time to service"!
  17. I finally took my car to the 1/8th mile last friday night andon my 6th run, they let me know that I was leaking oil on the track. I checked it out and it is coming from my diferential. I drove it home and it is still leaving a puddle after 3 days. I thought maybe it had just got hot or something and blew out of the vent but seems like it would quit dripping by now. Any idea what would have caused this sudden leak? I have not cleaned it yet to try and pinpoint, but pretty much the whole back cover is wet.
  18. I don't think your hyper pistons will handle a 200 shot of NOS, some of you experts feel free to chime in. Jeff
  19. I figure I'll be very close to the 11's as I was only .39 away from it in the 1/4 mile before and I just knocked almost .3 off my best 1/8 mile with a slower 60 ft. It felt stronger for sure but is has been over 6 months since I ran it and that was in the day time vs being dark last night. Feels faster in the dark. It pulls all the way thru to 7000 even with the preformer RPM intake. I have a few videos, poor quality, but will try and post from work monday when I have access to high speed. I did beat a porche (twice), A pretty tuff LS1 firebird on street slicks and a super charged mustang on street slicks.
  20. .206 rt 1.8121 60 ft (dang skiny tires) 5.0519 330 ft 7.7074 1/8 92.27 mph Best top speed of the night was a 93.09, Had to really feather first gear to keep from spinning and wheel hop. Does this equate to a sub 12 second 1/4? My former best of a 12.39 was a 7.999 1/8 mile. Best of all, it made it thru 6 passes then the 45 minute drive home. Differential did start leaking a little oil though...Hmmm.
  21. I'm a little scared for my half shafts, I have not done my cv joint upgrade yet and fear I will regret it in about 6 hours.
  22. I'm pretty good at keeping it hooked up. I've never been able to just dump it. Last time you advised how to drive it you said shift at 7300!! What are you getting scared? He He! I have my rev limiter at 7000 and don't plan to hit it.
  23. I'm heading out to a local 1/8 mile track tonight to see what this 383 will do. My skinny tires are getting kinda worn (for some reason), so I expect my 60' times will suffer but should be fun anyway. Will post the results...if I'm proud of them Jeff
  24. Been very busy with life, have put some more miles on it but that's about it. Need to do a tad more carb tweaking right off idle but is running great other that that. Have not checked idle vacuum lately but I can tell in the brake pedal that it is very low. I am ready to but my CV joints in but have not had time to get into that. Once that is done, will head to the track. Thanks for asking.
