  1. Grumpy, I am a general manager of a pretty big machine shop and after all your help on my build, I owe you some favors. Let me know what you need and I'll see if I can help you out. This is our shop, it's a big production shop, but I can do side stuff also. http://www.faithmfg.com/ Bill, come on to Houston and I'll put you to work! Jeff
  2. sorry I didn't search, I know better than that. Just got Lazy. Jeff
  3. Both of mine have been "not worth it". The pin get's chewed up, the spider gear housing get's wallered out and the pinion gear get's dinged up.
  4. this is such an active thread, I wanted to jump in on it. On the topic, does anyone have the torque specs for the ring gear and the 4 bolts that hold the bearings in the diff? I just welded the pin on mine and need to put it back together. thanks Jeff
  5. Sounds like the spider gear pin has came loose. Has happened to me twice. It floats around and will float out far enough to hit the pinion gear every now and then and make the noise.
  6. Hey Ed, if you can't get it right, come see me, I have diff's torn apart all over my shop as well. We can weld them all together and make some modern art....I'll do the welding though. Just kidding!
  7. I tried to rotate the boot as I was thinking the same thing. I couldn't get it to move nor where there any marks on it. I remember a few weeks after I put the cv's in, the car developed a weird sound/feel under load in first and second gear. I couldn't figure it out, so I finally just hammered on it a few times figuring I'd break whatever was bad and then fix it. Well, after two hard launches, the noise went away. Who knows...
  8. I have looked at mine some more and it appears that it defineatly slipped. The boot was for sure twisted but all seems to be in working order. looked under the boot and although I don't really know what I am looking at, all looks to be good. I remember seing the boot twisted under the car so it has been like that for a little while. Is this possible? Is the cv any good? Still seems to function properly. I pulled and pushed on it to see if it could have happened during assembly. I can't get it to move or do anything funny. Can I take it apart for further inspection? If so, how do they come apart? Thanks Jeff
  9. running open. I have a thread in the drivetrain forum and am not getting any feedback. Please take a look. http://forums.hybridz.org/showthread.php?t=125792
  10. Not sure, haven't dyno'd this motor yet.
  11. I know my pictures are unclear but can anyone help? I think it's early 80's 300 zx, but not sure. The CV's seem to be a tad longer than my ZX ones. Can anyone confirm or deny it they should be longer?
  12. I have been known to pop the clutch every now and then...but let's not get off track of my question here. Anybody got any input?
  13. I broke my R200 again and I have two donors to replace with. One is a 3.55 and one is a 3.7 ratio. I'm trying to decide which would be better for my 1/4 mile times. Keep in mind, I am running a manual 5 speed. Will the added pull of the 3.7 be outweighed by the fact that I will blow thru first gear even quicker? I've never really played with gear ratio's so any input would be appreciated. My power plant is a fairly stout 383 so factor that in as well. Or, are they so close that I won't even notice any difference. Thanks for your input. Jeff
  14. I got this setup yesterday and am wondering what car it is from. I noticed the diff has that little sleeve over the shaft in the spider gears. What is that for? None of my other r200's have it. http://album.hybridz.org/showphoto.php?photo=16828&cat=500&ppuser=8295 http://album.hybridz.org/showphoto.php?photo=16829&cat=500&ppuser=8295 I have 280zx cv's in there now, these look a little different, are they better? thanks Jeff
  15. Like Pete, I, after breaking 2 T5's, had G-force build me one. Has worked great. I also agree that the only way I would put an auto in mine would be for 1/4 mile only. The 5 speed is just too fun. Jeff
  16. 280 zx...I think. Not sure of the origin, all I know is they came stuck in an R200 and had rear disk.
  17. I under my car removng my broken diff and I noticed that one of my cv boots is twisted as if the shaft jumped a tooth or something. Not knowing what the inside of a cv joint looks like, I don't even know if this is possible. Anybody know?
  18. It's that dang spider gear pin again. I welded this one on both ends, but it still broke loose. I have another diff that seems to be in pretty good shape so I guess I will try it again. Jeff
  19. I think I broke another diff, not sure yet, will get it loaded on a flatbed this afternoon to get it home. Was going 65 on the freeway whan I heard this load clank! Then it started making some poping sounds and I can feel it binding up when it does it. This will be my third diff if so. My car isn't that fast, seems like they should be holding up. Of course my annual race event is the Super Chevy which is only 4 weeks away. Dang hot rods..
  20. I can't answer to what it's worth. I would suggest selling off the aftermarket parts like wheels etc, then selling the shell. On that note, how much for the hood? I need it! Jeff
  21. Welcome to the Hybrid Z community. What year model Z do you have? Just kidding, everyone please calm down. Reality TV is designed to stirr up controversy. Let's not be puppets. Street racing is all about strategies, don't hate the players, hate the game! Peace, love and horsepower.
  22. Thanks guys. I'm bummed now that I have my new rear tires on, I can't do that anymore....well I can, but I would feel REAL guilty about it.
  23. It is running thru a 3" single exhaust which is way too restrictive for my motor, was designed around a mild 350. I have a Y pipe and un cap it if I want to let it run. Here's pic when I drove back thru. This is my new background. http://album.hybridz.org/showphoto.php?photo=15978&cat=500&ppuser=8295
