  1. go to a catapiler/ fabco dealer get a battery of comparable size to original done they are built by exide to catapilers specs. they last about 4-6 years and cost 50 to 80 bucks depending on size they are built to last in off road construction equipment, high vibration high shock, hard use. they have no or very little suspension most are diesel. so you can imagine what the battery must endure. when pro 4x4 drivers use the free optimas (sponsership) for everything but the race truck, something is amiss.
  2. well I got win 95 loaded and it still doing it, even when i reboot in MS-DOS mode. WTF any one have any ideas?
  3. 76 fairlady f54 block n42 head msa stage 3 cam triple 40mm mikuni's msa 6 into 1 open header http://s88.photobucket.com/albums/k165/red66chev/?action=view&current=100_1073.flv
  4. finally got through to haltech tech support. he said that the newest version of windows that wil ACTUALLY WORK, as in go online with the haltech, is win 95 any one have a copy? win xp will run the program fine but it won't really work. Something to do with win 95 still being DOS based. so that was the problem.
  5. I suppose i should include some info about the computer. its a thinkpad 600 (most indestrucable laptop built) I'm running windows xp profesional and the tunning program is directly from the haltech site version 5.2 I load the program it asks if i want to go online when it starts. and it just keeps flashing reconnect haltech.
  6. I just picked up a 87 z31 turbo, today runs and drives came with extra parts too. EVERY THING except the engine, trans ecu and related FI parts is for sale. I'm posting an ad right now make an offer for what you want.
  7. I try to go online with the F3 and it just keeps saying reconnect haltech... WTF. when the tunning program first started up it said it needed com1 (serial port) so I set up com1 in the System (control panel) device manager. start it again try to go online same thing. brand new link cable, haltech has power. wtf ......I'm stumped.
  8. I always just Media blasted them clean inside and out put them in the auto parts washer for a few hours and blow them out. paint the out side and thats it. My oil filter gets enough stuff in it it doesn't need paint flakes too.
  9. also packaging may be a concern as it is rather tight under there with a dohc v6 tt much less a dohc v8 tt
  10. well since the vh45 never came turbo from the factory and I don't believe there are any "production" turbo manifolds for it. you would have to make your own. In that case I can think of a bunch of other turbos better suited to that engine. (twin disco potato's)

    4 onto a 6

thats a Jaguar six isn't it?
  12. well the nistune and 300zx maf swap would be the easiest from the tunning aspec, in that nistune can load a base map for the 280zx for you so at ;least when its all installed you don';t have to start from scratch. the installation would also be alot easier than a mega squirt but the mega squirt is cheaper. (if you have to buy all the componets for both) nistune alone was 347 shipped to my buddy.
  13. Had the same thing happen on my l20 but it just poped off it didn't shatter. I only discovered this after I pulled the engine to install the 2.8. I felt like such and idiot for not checking under the valve cover sooner. then I relized it was soooo slow with the 2.0 liter.
  14. well every manufactures specs vary for each "stage" cam if you will. But a few of the guys on here have told me the MSA stage III cam is the most the stock FI will handle. is that double dragon in your sig?
  15. a 500 hp 3.0 is more drive able than a 500 2.0 (sr20) any day anywhere. more displacement means more torque period. more torque means more hp at lower rpm.hp= torque x rpm / 5252. your also talking V vs's inline. which is kinda apples and oranges. more displacement spools the same turbo sooner.
  16. well if you want a small bodied hard working truck get a little cab over mitso , you know like the lawn fertalizer guys have. I had a UD 6 cylinder for a time when I had to have my own service truck. though the mistos are much smaller. if you truly are going to work the thing stick with a small med duty truck and stay away from a pick up ,buy the way the weather its a 1/2 or a 1 ton (f150 or f350 ) its all the same cab. that little mitso 4 cylinders get about 25 mpg and is short wheel base or long depending on what you buy. and will carry 4000 lbs all day. you don't need 4x4 you just want it. stay away from building your own truck. its more work than its worth. I've been down that road. just buy the equipment you need it can be written off as a business expense.
  17. by old school I meant its roots. way way way back in the early days of racing and metalergy. the technology to make the valve springs we can today did not exist which is ONE of the reasons engines where quite large displacement and only turned 3-4 k. desmodromic valve train was the high tension valve spring of yesterday. Not that it still doesn't have a place, may manufactures have tried it over the decades. none recently. I'm pretty sure ducati stoped making a desmo model years ago. theres a cool article in "Engine Masters" about desmodromic valve train. I can't remember the issue off hand though. rotory valves are cool to, though I'M yet to see them on a running engine, any one see a vid or article about them?
  18. the buick v8 was 3.5 liters. then rover bought the design and eventually made it 4.9 liters. its about 320 lb's wet and 289 CI in rover form. the all aluminum blocks were investment cast. back in the 60's when this engine was created this was un-heard of especialy with an aluminum block. they are great engines if you use the right heads much research is warrented on this engine. 400 hp and v8 low end grunt from 320 lbs? sounds good to me.
  19. what would be really cool is if it was automatic, Like some sport suspension's are ... linked to engine rpms. If you spend so many seconds above say 3500-4000 it automaticly locks it in.and with a full manual switch so its just locked all the time. Or linked to a first and second gear switch so it turned off later. since it's mostly needed just for the launch.
  20. 76 Fairlady Z busted f54/n42 with 270/280 cam and triple 40mm mikuni's Turbo swap in progress. For now jack stand racing.
  21. I'd like to use a toploader behind a L series and the rocket was just that a dog ringed race preped toploader. So where can I find a bellhousing or did quaife make them from the front tans case with an adaptor plate?
  22. Now theres something done very very little..... desmodromic valve train. Very cool old school approach to reving high.
  23. well copper head gaskets for the most part weep coolant and oil and require O rings on the cylinders to seal well, most run some radiator stop leak to help or stop the coolant weeping but oil will almost always weep out.
  24. get a mini vac hand pump with a gauge . se if it holds vacuum for a a little while. vacuume source is supposed to be the vacuum tank on the strut tower.
