  1. Just curious, what purpose, if any, does a nice sound system in a drag car serve other than prove the owners obvious knowledge on how to blend parts that should never come near each other when implemented properly, sbonk.gif i.e. drag car and high end sound system… ?

I believe those giant speakers are used to simulate the sound of a nitrous powered blown V8 mountain motor, the NOS bottles are to cool off the speakers after a long run down the 1/4.

  2. I took a little bit of a different path than you for removing all the extra wires from the battery. I replaced my stock fuse block with one from a camaro which had several additional circuits on it.

you can kind of see it in this pic

By doing this I am able to keep all the extra wires off the battery and have all my fuses in one place.

  3. Heres a couple of pics of my mock ups for the front/radiator.

The opening for the radiator is 12" wide by 4" high and is between the air dam and the bumper. Also note the judicous use of 500 mph tape to seal everything up in the front.

At this time they are cardboard and sheetmetal but after I get everything worked out the way I want I will make everything from aluminum sheet and it will all be painted.

As a side note I actualy took it on a test drive with the cardboard and it worked great up to about 110 mph when the cardboard got flatened against the radiator. I ran the car through city traffic and at typical freeway speeds with no over heating issues (had to use the low speed side of the fan a couple times while stopped in traffic), it was after I was done testing that I decided to see how fast I could go before the cardboard gave out.

  4. I have an aluminum piece very similar to that on mine but it is only one and in the center. With mine I put a bend in the aluminum so that if I hit something fairly solid (like a concrete curb) it will bend the aluminum rather than ripping a hole in my air dam. In my opinion certian things should have a weak point made into them, think of it as a crumple zone for your air dam.

  5. There were deffinately some fast cars there... and I have no idea where they were getting there traction from, most of my 60' times were 2.1 to 2.2, although on my best run (don't know if you saw it or not) I pulled a 1.933 60' with an 8.961 at 76.79 mph. I have not raced my car in about two years or so and it shows, my reaction times were terrable and I felt like a little old lady shifting.

Tony, I was being moderately easy on the car and I did not break it, but I am not going to be able to make it to the show. My wife made other plans for Sunday and I wasn't sure untill just a few days ago that I would even have the car running again by the time of the show. The new (to me) diff that I just put in the car has an atrocious one wheel peel issue, my old diff (open) would spin both tires equally most of the time. I have to see if I can do anything to fix that.

e_racer1999, I believe that I may know someone with a BW T-5 but I will have to check. If you want a type 'B' 5 spd I have one that you can have but it needs a 100% rebuild.

  7. why am I being laid back and complacent about it right now? Because I'm too old and too paranoid to be making enemies.

Which is all the more reason to not deal with them anymore and go to the property management. You can also call the police non emergency number and get advice from them on what can be done to get them removed without causing you any additional duress. To me this is a case of your sanity vs their "freedom" to disrupt your life and the best way to deal with it is to create distance which requires one or the other to leave and since they are the ones breaking the law they are the ones who should have to leave IMO.

  8. I have done more of these events than I can count and I love them. I will recomend that you do not pay for the event. You can still go to it and drive the cars but you will not be allowed to drive on the compitition track which is not a big deal because you only get 2 runs on that track and those cars are beat to death because the only time they stop is when they are out of gas or getting new tires (and the Cobalt SS is not that impressive). What is fun is that you can drive a Corvette on a timed track (albeit a short course) and push that thing as hard as you want, the first time you spin one you will get a warning the second time you will be asked to leave.

These are fun events but expect to be there all day and expect to wait in long lines for the fun cars, also bring some water with you and some snacks because most of these events charge for water and food and they charge alot of money for a little water or food.

  9. I really like the Docs suggestion... and here is mine. First off as you are well aware ass holes are extremely difficult to deal with (this has nothing to do with the weed), since it appears that you have communicated with them to some degree and it has not worked as of yet you need to take a different aproach. Since these neighbors are pot heads as well as ass holes you have a very effective option (since you live in California). Go to the apartment or property manager and tell them about your neighbors and ask them to evict them, if the manager has any issues with evicting them remind the manager that in the state of California that the police can fine and/or arrest a property owner/manager if they knowingly allow drug use on their property. There is also a very real chance that these guys have problems with making thier rent on time each and every time which will make it all the easier for the manager to be willing to evict them.

I do not have issues with smokers (I voted to legalize it) but I do have issues with ass holes and I have a very low tolerance for people like your neighbors, get them evicted and hopefully after getting kicked to the curb a few times they will learn some respect.

  10. Yeah really how in the world did you come across that???

The add was under the "barter" section of Craigslist so he was probably looking for a deal and said "what the hell is a gay ball" (just my guess). My wife finds all kinds of weird stuff under the "free" section of Craigslist then calls me and says "you've got to see this...".

  11. Pete, good luck with the VR-4, I used to have a 91' that was also green, bought it brand new in 1990. When new it was in my opinion nicer than the GSX and about the same power (bone stock). Your "new" VR-4 sounds pretty rough but I know a kid here in San Diego who races one and that thing is very impresive for a 4-door.

  12. Unfortunately the cost of all building materials including wire (both stranded and solid core) has gone up over 100% in the past couple of years. You probably will not be able to find it much cheaper in any retail type store. What you can do if you have one of these stores around you is go to "Habitat for Humanity" and look for some wire there. These stores are for people to donate construction items to and the donor can take a tax right-off. The general public can purchase these donated items at a reduced price and even though some of the items are used most of the stuff is brand new including wire and can be purchased at amazing discounts. You can think of Habitat for Humanity as a Salvation Army store for construction equipment and tools.

  13. My personal recomendation is that you go ahead and use distilled water in your cooling system, and use the DI water for cleaning your car rather than cooling it. Since the DI water has a propensity to become acidic (quote from Wikipedia "Deionized water will quickly acquire a pH when exposed to air. Carbon dioxide, present in the atmosphere, will dissolve in the water, introducing ions and giving an acidic pH of around 5.0.") it could cause serious damage to your coolant passages.

  14. I suspect that when you eleminated the side marker lights you opened up the circuit for your tail lights which means that you no longer have a ground. If you still have the wires in the car and they are just haning there try running an alligator style jumper from the black wire to ground on each of the side marker light wires disconected when the side markers where removed and see if your tail lights come back.
