So if you spent $300 to get it done then you saved $100. But I would be using different rods so it might cost me more. Depends if I can find a good set of H beam rods.

To Powder Coat The Motor Or Not Is The Question?
rayaapp2 replied to S30TRBO's topic in Nissan L6 Forum
maybe this point is null, but it is the reason I have shied away from powder coating my block. The powder coat itself is not as good a conductor of heat as the cast iron is. Therefore it might trap heat in the block that would normally be drawn out. I think this was also the point "Here comes trouble" was making at. The color affect is null for sure. It's the actual substance that the powder coat that I am worried about. Powder coat as I know it is a ceramic in nature. Ceramics don't conduct! They insulate. So are we trying to insulate the block or draw heat out of the block. I did think about several other options as well, but after rethinking it they won't work with the setup I am trying to build. Like some kind of crankcase blow through system that flushes fresh air through the crankcase and evacuating heat along with a 3 core radiator. But I'd much rather run a vacuum in the crank and the larger radiator! But then again I could be completely wrong. -
You probably polished the friction disk.

Who here is running Z31 forged pistons in their L? I can't find any specs other than bore to tell me if they will work. Is there a problem with deck height? Custom Rods maybe? I've been searching for manufactures of forged pistons for my engine. Everything seems a little expensive. If Z31 pistons are as easy as using another rod setup and boring the block 1mm then finding aftermarket forged pistons for a Z31 might be easier than searching for "Datsun" L-series pistons... a.k.a. un-obtainium for under 400bux. I'd much rather spend money on a turbo upgrade or somthing. I've seen custom pistons for my 454 through Wiseco for less than that.

Johnc is correct. I am building an autoX car so I would really like the oil to drain back to the pan faster. That is my main goal. Nismo supposedly makes a windage tray for this motor. I also have been thinking of clenaing the castings out of the block.
-
Anyone have pictures of there setup? I just noticed that my crank caps have provisions for a windage tray. So is anyone running one? PICTURES??

What are most of you running on your VG series engines for transmissions? I am trying to get a Mazda guy to convert his RX-7 from Ford V8 to VG. Or at least trying to give him a little nudge. He already likes the platform so it's not going to be hard. He has a stroked 302 pushing around 300hp Anyway. He has money. Building a good motor will not be a problem. He wants 600hp. How realisic is that? As far as the tranny goes for big HP: What is a bolt on? What is easily modify-able All the stock specs I have seen for T-5 are around 320 Ft of torque. I have seen a few others that have been built up for larger HP and torque applications so I know that will work, so what else? thanks

That is for the Air Conditioning which is suppost to be a 20A fuse. That means that fuse is power for you heater assembly.

I've been putting a little thought into porting the exhaust side of the diesel head I have. I got to looking at the cam naturally. It's really small. What would happen if I installed a minimum overlap longer duration cam say out of an early L24? (Scratch the Early L24 idea they have drip oils and will not fit in the diesel valve cover) Still I'm sure another cam might work.. Should work and give me what I want? I am building a turbo diesel. I am sorta kinda still playing with ideas that apply to gas motors. So I really need someone that has some experience with doing stuff like this. Does anyone have a link to the Nissan L series cam spec site? I am trying to gain top end HP by opening up the exhaust ports, but NOT open them up to much as to lose the much needed velocity in my turbo application. I think this will help with cam choice, But will a gas cam work. Do diesels have other issues that a gas cam cannot support? Check this... The bolt holes don't line up. With some minor grinding I may be able to get it to clear the intake manifold and bolt onto the head. BUT I don't know if this will be possible without supporting the inherent warpage issues of the exhaust manifold. I may have to do as others have in the past and make a custom manifold for the turbo. I guess we'll find out. also note the head has brass inserts next to every exhaust port. Oil passages. Yes it's a really dysfunctional picture... Back to the cam, Any ideas?

Only this one is on one hell-of-a crack benz!!!

dont need no stinken lighter block. It has plenty of power to make up for the weight. At least for my tastes. Any idea on what magazine that was?

Modified a RB26DETT front clip frame to a S-30 to use the AWD? I was just thining about it for a future swap. Cutting out the stock strut area and replacing it with the Skyline front end. Reinforcing it when completed obviously and getting a stock looking AWD S-30... Pictures? I already know that there will be a small issue of aligning the front diff/motor and the chassis for minimal angle on the CVs. I have seen it discussed here, but never done.

I am looking for a diesel injector nozzle kit that is larger than the stock setup on the LD28. also where do I pickup a tach signal... alt? that'll be weird what is the exact redline of the diesel does the maxima have an electric fuel pump other than the high pressure mechanical one. I am looking for someone who has technical knowllege with either the maxima or the industrial counterparts with the LD28. thanks

There are aprox. 50-60 requests for the gasket at this time, but Cometic is swamped with requests from lots of others. Basically I need a few donation gaskets for them at this time. I have 2 I am going to send, but they are gaskets that have failed. I need a survey at this time as well. Stock L28 is 86mm. Send me pictures of the mating surface of your block. I need those to show different water jacket designs. Specifically the later Turbo blocks with the extra water passage. I have a P30 and an N42 to compare to. Take a few shots of the F54 blocks for me and send them to my e-mail(just click on my handle) What are the typical over bore sizes that we use? .040" .120" what else? Also would anyone want a 83mm bore gasket for their L24 or L26? I was hoping to have a part number at this time, but like I said they are slow. I've already covered thickness, basically all I need is you folk's favorite. I don't know stock thickness, but Fel-Pro is 1mm and the other common one is 2mm thick. Any others? Questions where to send the gasket should be directed to (440.354.0777). ex 114 or 18007529850 ex. 114 Chad Ehrke Thanks Ray

I need to get some pictures of the cross member and frame areas. It would be best if the engine was out. Some shots of the bottom and some from a slight angle. A wide veiw including the strut tower area would help. If anyone has some or would be will to take some pictures of theirs Please do. Thanks I've looked around online but most people are interested in the RB motor. I have some specs as far as wheel base already. Does anyone know the ID and OD of the Frame rails? Ray

Cometic has plenty enough people now to actually make the gaskets for our motors. Cometic will be e-mailing those people who have e-mailed them. If you don't soon get an e-mail that means your e-mail didn't get through the fire-wall. So e-mail them back. They have no target date as of yet. They have been turning gasket requests down lately. They also said they have enough work ahead of them to keep them busy for the next 6 months. They said it will be done before June though. So within the next 2 months or so. Then they will have a part number to order by. Here's some more information The bore and thickness is customizable! That is you may order the size you want! IMPORTANT: when e-mailing cometic your Subject should include "head gasket request" or The cometic site will assume it is spam and it will never reach them. His e-mail is cehrke@cometic.com 440.354.0777 ex 114 So if you did not mention "gasket" or "head" your e-mail may not have gotten through. We will be getting about a 20% discount. The cost will be about $155.95 before discount. So it will be around $120 for us depending on what the exact discount will be. Thanks Ray

disclaimer: I have heard that the speedo is inacurate after 125 mph. So the only real way to know is find another way to test the speed./disclaimer According to my litta' Speedo, my car here, was doing, 144 mph. I have a L28ET under the hood of my 71 with an early 5spd. I don't know the gearing in my R-200. Another factor in there. The Front end lifts way up. The car feels real light and touchy. I wasn't topped out but I am a too ball-less to go any faster. I've only gone that fast once. I normally keep it under 130 when I'm racing. To scary for an amature driver like me. I am now focused on how fast I can get up there instead of how fast can it go.

If that's yo2001 from zcar then I'll trust what he says. I've talked to some of the brightest from that site and he was always right. I am almost finished installing a z31 turbo computer on my L28ET. I just need to wire the fuel pump relay up and figure out the speed sensor. I really didn't consider it to be a proformance enhancer. Just a suplement for the original. They are 2 different systems. That is you can't swap computers or harness back and forth between the 2 systems. I spent a great deal of time finding wire diagrams and tracing out the entire engine harness. I ended up making my own wire diagram. I have done a few other mods to the engine like machined the inside of the manifold and fit a KA24E throttle body on it. I also used the 300zxt AAC valve with idle adjuster and idle up solenoid. I plated off the old AAC valve. I am trying to get a MLS Cometic head gasket for the car as well as an intercooler (prol. large NPR). I guess I should say I have a 71 240z. I placed the ECU on the passenger side kick panel. Then I drilled a 2" hole next to the original engine compartment hole only slightly lower because of the fan unit. I am pleased with the way it looks so far. I just don't have a cover for the ecu. I may just leave it that way. If you check out my web site you can sort of see the mock up of what I have done. I will be making changes soon and show some of the current state that I am at. right now the pictures take a while to load even if you have broadband.

I hope it brings you better luck than Roy Holmes! My great grandfather was mysteriously killed over the patent of the first rotory motor. As we say in our family "Wankle garbage". No offence to you or your Z. It actually looks really good. I just hope one day to see an Irish Holmes rotory motor. Good luck Try and center everything. Ray

L28ET owners! Need a cheaper custom Steel gasket?
rayaapp2 replied to rayaapp2's topic in 6 Cylinder Z Forums
Okay heres the deal I filled out their head gasket request form. I sent that in. I should be hearing from them shortly or I will call. Aprox. 16 people had signed up as of Tues. We need about 20-25 people to order gaskets. I get to send in a sample gasket. Then they will make the tool to create gaskets. The bore and thickness is customizable! That is you may order the size you want! I have talked to several people offline whom are interested in it. IMPORTANT: when e-mailing cometic your Subject should include "head gasket request" or The cometic site will assume it is spam and it will never reach Chad His e-mail is cehrke@cometic.com 440.354.0777 ex 114 new link to zcar thread http://www.zcar.com/forums/read.php?f=1&i=451843&t=451843 -
