  1. I am new to welding but I was told that Laser welding welds even the inside of the metal not just the surounding area. Why couldn't you drill passages through the head for the oil?
  2. Well I was looking at the turbo exhuast. and wow I thought that the ports were bad! If you want to port you really have to go custom manifolds! I've done a bit of work to the inside of the intake manifold and smoothed most of the obstructions. That is all I really want to go for. A lot of work needs to be done just to start to see any affect. I hope this thread continues to bring good information about the p90 head. Thanks Guys Ray
  3. What happened to the pics? I'd really like to see them. Thankyou Ray
  4. I got the quote today. They are asking $100 with the %20 discount.
  5. Great thread! I'm going to watch this one. Ray
  6. No one mentioned why the carbs are no-good for high hp applications. Basically the SU carbs cannot support high hp because of there size. The EFI system can. If you want a carb system look into a 4 barrel conversion from Jim Cook Racing. I doubt that it would be good for a stroker though. I would go after-market like everyone has suggested. check this site out for good stroker info http://www.geocities.com/inlinestroker/
  7. I need at least 15-20 people to investigate and buy a MLS head gasket from Cometic. Any less and they will not bother to make them. If you have questions about it check their site under materials. Or you can e-mail Chad @ chadehrke@cometic.com He is collecting names of buyers. A discount will be givin to us because we will be buying in a group. They have copper and composite alternatives for $60 +or- 5. Custom thickness are available. Ask chad for a estimate on the steel but it sounded like it would cost $80. I have investigated three other gasket makers Tomei SCE HKS All of which run for at least $200. I have a thread at Zcar.com http://www.zcar.com/forums/read.php?f=1&i=446191&t=446191 Please take a look at this. Thankyou Ray
  8. My local paint store is mainly PPG. In fact untill I started body stuff I thought that was the name of the store. It has PPG on the window but the name of the store is on the inside. Automotive Color. They recomended the epoxy primer because it would create a surface for the paint to adhear to. I will ask them about DTM primers. I think that is what they were promoting for me. It's like 200 bucks for a gallon can. I guess its worth it. I was just looking for other input on what to get. Hopefully others have something to say.
  9. No I am using the 280z fi lines and the return is the same size as the feed line.
  10. The rest of the car is a hybrid. My 72 has a fresh motor with a carbed N42. The dang tranny dogs the crud out of it. Other than changing the filter on the tranny (which hasn't run for many more years than I know. I believe it was parked in the early eighties) What can I do? Is there any cleaning substances I can flush the thing out with. I have another auto tranny. It's condition is unknown. After I get it cleaned up should I just run it a while in all the gears? thanks
  11. Well I am finishing up a 71 240z turbo swap. My fuel pressure went to the end of and past a 110 psi guage. I found a pluged check valve on the return line. That brought it down. Now the car starts. But After about a mile down the road the plugs foul, esp on deacceleration. Then the car will refuse to start for an hour. err. I don't know what pressure it is running at now. I don't have a meter. The other was borrowed. I guess I have a couple of choices. Get a new 99buck pump from the store, or find some sort of pressure regulator. I was thinkin pressure reg. Would that work or not. I understand that it is necissary for pressure fluxuation between 35-50psi. Am I stuck with finding a new pump? Thanks for any ideas. ray
  12. I am looking into epoxy primers for starters. Is there any other primers that seal the metal. My car is stripped of paint. I want to put a primer down to seal the metal then reprimer after I do fillers and stuff. Is this a good idea? I was told that epoxy primers don't need to be a specific color. Such as light or dark. Or red, black, or grey. Who makes a good primer. I don't know what color I am going to paint my car yet. The two colors I am having a hard time with is a bright yellow that you see on most fast looking 240z's No not that urine original stuf, and a dark blue that my car was painted before The blue and yellow both look good, but will one or the other detirmine the kind or color of primer I should use. thanks ray
  13. I just picked up a used 700r4 and transfer case for under 300 bucks. Local pick and pull. You can rebiuld it for 150-200 bucks.
  14. I just need some electrical help. Are the injectors suppost to fire all at once? I am new to turbo and efi so wiring this thing together has taken a while but I can't get the car to start and I see that the injectors all fire at the same time so I figured this is the problem. I really need to hear from someone that has done this mod before. The motor is an 83 with p90a head. The motor is in great shape. I used a 77 efi setup. Yes I gutted one of those afms and put the elec in the turbo afm and all. everything corresponds. But I think the wiring between the car, the ecm, and the ignition is messed. So anybody that knows about this mod can help me out here.
  15. Do I have to use the computer from the turbo motor or can I use any of the computers for the L6 motors? I ask because I am in the middle of getting a really cheap turbo motor and just found out along with the seller he has the computer to a 77'. Also I am looking for a maf I heard that needs to be from a turbo as well.
  16. Getting ready to make my 77' into a 4X4 and I can't find the specs for my motor. The Haynes manual says that V6 and V8 engines have 150psi with a variance of 20psi to the cylinders. It isn't specific about the big block though. I know that there V6's that they use are just 350s missing two cylinders so I can see that they are the same. But I'm not sure that the 454 is. I want to check my comp. before I put in the motor. I do know that it was rebiult about 49K ago. Should be ok. could anybody could steer me to the specs for a 454? (it's coming out of an 81' suburban 3/4 ton two wheel drive) thanks.
  17. I have started to tare down my 72 so that I could replace the E88 top end with a N42 and fuel injection. I know nothing about this fuel injection system and have little experience with the 280 series. I have a lot of Q's. I need to talk to somebody that has knowlege of the efi system. esp the vacuum lines and wiring harness. thanks R240Z@juno.com
  18. Has anybody seen a jaguar 4.2liter out of the e type model put in any of the z's series cars. My friend owns an engine and I have plenty of cars.
  19. it has taken about three or four months but I now have the heart of my project. I had been asking about sites for for idea's. I still need to find a frame. So I guess the question is how can I cut a 72' blazer frame so that it will fit under a 240z?I was thinking chopping the middle out and rivet and weild it back together. I have seen this done with a nissan truck frame that now sits under my friends 71' 510. I want to use the 3/4 ton 4X4 suspension and don't know how to move it inward the 6-8 inches that I need to make the thing fit. Or do I just need to keep looking for another frame? sorry it is so long but thanks for your time and comments. ray
  20. He has a web site that has his e-mail but the computer won't let me open his e-mail link. His site is called bent8z.com he has a really cool car and I'd like to ask him some questions about his mods. thanks ray
  21. 24k on the motor. Was egr. holly 2 barrel for it, crate motor. Needs electronic pick up and cap for the distributor. It ran great. Wrecked the car. Rear sump. Needs to go. in Ca. asking about $500 is very neg.
  22. I have a dodge 318. Needs work. was thinking of using it in my 240 but decided not to. no carb for it, was going to rebiuld. It is stock. Was going to make it a 360. anybody want it. Cheap like $75-100 Have auto trans for it but I wouldn't use it in a 240. Somebody interested I just don't like to see a good machine go to waste. It ran when it was pulled out of my neighbors truck.
  23. I have thought of a lot of things to do with my z. Ive looked into installing a 72 hemi 426, 77 ford 302, 73' dodge 318 rebuilt as a 360. But now that it has come down to it I want my favorite beast under the hood...CHEVY POWER! I love my suburban. Stock 502 under the hood. My latest plan is to put a small block 400 with 400 turbo trans. I am not positive yet but I think I am going with the sonoma blazer axels I have, unless I can find something 3/4 ton. Yes 4X4!. 4-6" lift kit. All under my little old 240z. I own three 240z's. One is completly original, one is my sports car and the other is the body sitting in my back yard for parts. The parts body is what I am thinking of using. My questions are along the lines of what am I looking at. The blazer body is complete. I am thinking of tubing frame for the underside and the blazer frame moded to it. THe engine is the same as the 350 so I will need the engine mount kit. What about the transfer case on the tranny or how the tranny mounts to the frame for that matter. I really need to sit down and look at the two. Does anybody know what I am getting myself into? Advise wanted.
  24. Does anybody know where I can find them?
