My $100 dollar Top Mount Manifold Project. RB-->s30
streeteg replied to streeteg's topic in Nissan RB Forum
Im still keeping my fingers crossed on the w/g placement. I hate modding manifolds-- its just a reason for them to crack. I have heard good things about this particular piece though so I will keep you posted on hte progress. The turbo i order has a pretty decent lead time so you might beat me to the punch. -
My $100 dollar Top Mount Manifold Project. RB-->s30

What manifold are you using now? Are you still running the twin setup that is in your pics? My only concern is wastegate placement and the steering rack. They dont have much of an issue in the s13s/14s so hopefully we will get lucky. Manifold lead time is 4-6 weeks. I bought the new t4 housing atp makes for the 3076R and will be doing some testing with that vs a 35r off of a buddies skyline. This is all for the future though. its just nice to collect the parts in my basement. -E -
Wow i caused some serious controversy. If the car rolls Ill have a lot more to worry about then the roll bar. And if it rolls- I most likely will be wearing a helmet. Thanks for the concerns guys

I actually did some more research and have ordered an stec manifold this past weekend. 321 steel, and construction that has been proven in some 240sx's so I am going to test it out for fitment in the datsuns Stay tuned -
ya wow--- kudos that is amazing

Power FC gets my vote. I love having the commander to monitor what the ECU is seeing.

Just finished s13 coilovers into s30
streeteg replied to jmai86's topic in Brakes, Wheels, Suspension and Chassis
For those looking for a mid price unit, I got off the phone with Stance USA today and they have developed a perch that fits Z's and their coilovers with availability in the next 8 weeks. They also are willing to see the s13 set with 4 perches for the front but I was not quoted a price. I gave them my info and will have more info as it develops. Will be starting a separate thread as well. -

Pressing out the spindle pin

so not looking forward to doing this. I hate when projects get held up due to nonsensical issues such as spindle pins. -

Looks like EM-Automotive is out of biz-or at least no more info left on them. No items for sale on ebay, no web site history. Would like to do some research on the other higher end brands however about the different options. It would be nice to say I have tein, or apexi coils on my car -
OK so after plenty of research and some trial an error with a few manifold I have come to the conclusion that there are very limited options without going COMPLETELY custom on a manifold to mount a top mount turbo in an S30 with an RB. Here were the options: 1. Stock Manifold, Tapped for external gate 2. stec manifolds 3. Cheap-o ebay manifold 4. 6 Boost 5. Full Race Here were the issues: 1. Stocker tapped--- Backpressure using a log manifold is always an arguement, so I will put it out there, however between the manifold and the actual frame/engine bay does not leave enough clearance for a turbo IMO. You can shoehorn in some turbos, but my choice turbo is the hx35, who's dimensions would be cutting it to close. Wastegate placement/ exhaust scavenging. The w/g will scavenge gases out of the manifold closest the the cylinders it is mounted. Also again, up for debate, but a factor i considered 2- Stec- I have not tested these manifold but in the 240sx and silvia they apparently do very well. Particularly with their beefed steel. They may have issues with their clearance of the wastegate past the strut tower. Not to mention the "good manifold (or good in my opinion) only come in a t4 option. 3- ebay Wastegate has to make 180 degree turn to exit. Bad news. Boost creep. Also shitty steel. 4- 6boost- Untested 5- Full Race- My buddy and I just got done completeying his however when we moched it upit looked to have clearance issues with the strut tower. That and Price. 2200 is just wild for my goals and usage with the car. So- I figured the best place to go was cheap- because if I screw it up then I am only out hte 70 bucks I bought the manifold for used. I am using this design. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Nissan-RB20-RB25DET-TURBO-MANIFOLD-TOP-MOUNT-SS321_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQhashZitem3a573923a3QQitemZ250571465635QQptZMotorsQ5fCarQ5fTruckQ5fPartsQ5fAccessories I picked one up used locally for 70 bucks. Off with the Wastegate tube. In its place will be a bung for a pyrometer. Great placement in my Opinion. Now we remove the "brace" for clearance on new wastegate placement. Now we cut @ 45 degree angle new tube on the collector, and weld it into place. riiiight about here: The 2 bolt flange will be removed in lieu of a mvs 38mm vband attachment. A solid piece of steel will fit in the cut tube on the bottom and will fit the pyrometer. I will then get the manifold coated, wrapped in thermal wrap, and see what happens. All in all, boost control, and turbo fitment were my goals. IMO I will probably buy another manifold and do the exact same mod so that when this one cracks I have an easy replacement. Car will see drag time but not the sustained heat of much road coarse racing--- at least this year so durability will be taken care of via lack of that wild condition, and a flex pipe right in the DP. Not sure what you guys think, or maybe if you guys have tried it, however its just something I started today out of boredom and it may or may not end up on the car. Not sure what experiences you have had with these style headers but if you had success w/ 6boost or stec or Full race for that matter please dont hesitate to post up I am always trying to learn. Thanks Eric

Anyone have an extra rb25 manifold laying around?
streeteg replied to streeteg's topic in Nissan RB Forum
I think I found one local--- although I will keep you in mind if this guy falls through. -
definately cool. Very clean install.

I am looking to do some testing for a modified stock header for our RB that can flow as good if not better then some of the ebay options, is stealth, externally gated etc etc. The downtime to do such testing would be long enough where i would prefer to have an extra header rather then not drive me car. For those interested: Extrude hone Swain tech Coating T3-T3 Wastegate adapter On the SR's with appropriately sized turbos this significantly affects response and spool times. This setup would not be for those interested in heavy drag applications but rather a durable OEM manifold for a quick response road car.

Still got it--- this is a close friend of mine who owns this car. Very excited to have it as part of teh group

Well its been a great winter-- almost 8 weekends auto parts store runs, online ordering, trips to and from NY but we got everything together today and she starts right up. It was a good feeling. All thats left now is to take the car over to a muffler shop to get the turboback installed then over to Evans tuning for injectors, and a tune. Shooting for 450-550whp (hopefully higher) But here is a glimpse of whats to come. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j2TP8vDEKxc The Car (Pre turbo swap) Anyway, stay tuned for dyno results, trouble shooting etc etc. Thanks to Hybrid Z also for the research and answers which led to both the Z and the skyline being complete. Thanks again, Eric

Streeteg's RB Datsun 260z Tuned by R/T Tuning in Lansdale Pa
streeteg replied to streeteg's topic in Nissan RB Forum
really? is anyone else having this issue? they show up on my computer -
Ok Ladies and Gents today was finally the day I was able to get my car on the dyno and make some power. The first time i made it to the dyno my MAF voltage was maxing out almost instantly due to the pressure built up by an inefficient filter (Hours of research later) The Shop that did the tune was R/T tuning in Lansdale PA. I have been to my fair share of shops and this by far was the most professional well run place ive ever been to. Right down to business, knowledgeable staff and great equipment. Anyway Here is the setup. s2 Rb25det Apexi Power FC Stock MAF Intake w/ no filter Ebay FMIC Greddy Type-s BOV Greddy intake manifold Halman Boost controller (although boost control is a big issue I will be fixing upon the turbo upgrade because the boost started at 8 lbs, crept to 12 then fell off to 10 at the end Yellow Jacket Coil Packs NGK iridium 1 step colder plugs @ .32 gap stock turbo elbow DP thingy 3" exhaust from that elbow back to a HKS Carbon Ti Muffler, no cat no resonator. Stock Injectors @ what I think was almost 90% duty cycle bumped redline to 7k The results uncorrected were I think 290whp and 243tq. The Maf was near maxxed out, as were the injectors. The car is a 74 260z- that tips the scales at 2450lbs. Anyway, below is the car and the dyno. I did a quick butt dyno launch outside my house and it is night and day. thanks guys!

The clutch doesnt engage? or the clutch doesnt disengage? I just had an issue where my clutch didnt disengage. I switched my collar for an SR collar, then cut my floor block plate and was able to get the travel I needed for disengagement.
