ya i am getting my exhaust redone and i am gonna wrap the downpipe. I like the idea of the inbetween fan as well. My hood is cut over my turbo and I have a hood scoop. Water wetter will be the next purchase as well as a fan shroud. I think theres a lot of potential

Well I finally got my Z back together, and it could just be that I didnt bleed it good enough the first time around, but the car touches 210 sitting in traffic. Granted it was almost 100 degrees in the sun this weekend, but still that seems pretty hot to me. When cruising it will go to about 195. In the winter (before the build) the car would cruise @ 180 and might go up to 195 in traffic, but I always attributed it to having a shitty fan setup. This is all through the autometer sender-- which I havent tested against the stocker. This reading is taken from the back of the motor in between the block and my heater core on a line inside the car. Not sure how much variance there is there but we will see. It just worries me that it gets this hot. When I hook up the PFC I will get it off the stock locaiton on the intake manifold. Additionally-- I wasnt sure if there was a special coolant/additive people used to control heat. Anyway-- I dont want anything to get ruined as I put a lot of time and effort into this car to have the motor pop. Here is an old picture but the rad/fan setup hasnt changed: -Eric

Just changed the diff this weekend! Felt AWESOME when I took it back out---and youre right-- Totally different animal. Going this weekend for a 3" exhaust and the following weekend for a tune. Looking for 280-300whp on the stocker. Should hold me over for a while. more vids to come--- hopefully this time in the daylight (or close to it) As for the rb25 trans--- prob would need a new trans mount, not to metion it probably takes up more room in the tunnel meaning new exhaust. My clearance already sucks thus the new system.

One of the coolest Z's on teh board. Nice work man

Damnnnn thats a solid paint job. Better then Ive seen body shops do it! haha Nice work I am jealous of the talent. Thats one thing I want to tackle before I move on to the next project.

THat is a sweet color scheme---car looks really good-
-
The mustache bar actually went in opposite of stock (Bow facing towards the rear of the car, rather then the front... which threw us for a loop. other then that everything bolted up great. The driver side axle a slight bit more then the passengerside, but its not really that crazy. This Saturday I get a new Mandrel bent 3" exhaust from the turbo back, and then the following friday is a tune just in time for the NJ Z Car Club meet in Bridgewater. Im pretty excited

quick shot of mine w/ my buddies skyline--

Oh-- and the wires are just from my pyrometer and oil temp guages that are not hooked up yet. Lastly I will post a pic of the lighting comparison on the autometers when iut gets dark- Really nice difference and will promote the place I bought em from which is always good in my opinion. Thanks

Finished! Thank you to everyone on the thread who gave me a hand with much needed last minute info. I really appreciate it. Below are some of the pics we took during the installation. The original cover and yoke worked from the R200 that I had so there was no hassle there. Also, I HAD NOT EVEN A LITTLE clue about how to get the stock axles off the diff. We eventually said screw it and just dropped it out as one but it was not easy. I think I sheared a nipple getting it out. On with the pics! Car up in the air as we worked feverishly for like 15 hours straight. Little bit of progress happening with myself and my good friend (Dozer) After hours of trying to get the axles off-- trips to home depot, 2 flathead screwdivers and a crowbar its pretty fair that the r180 deserved this- and lastly the finished product next to my main helping hand's RB26 swapped skyline GTS. Again Thank you for all the help. The car feels A LOT more responsive now then it did with the long gears of the 180. Not to mention stronger too-- It is still an open diff but that's why time was invented. It will all come soon. Till next time, -Eric

OK so my diff fell on my camera during the install today, so the pics kinda suck but they arent bad. So on with the story! When I picked up the car-- Here is what I walked into-- YIKES So after a little bit of cleaning up-- some carpet and some paint and some additionanl gofast parts this is what I ended up with: Not bad-- just I was never a big fan of interior. For all my last cars I always ripped it out and painted it--I cant help it-- just a habit. STill a street car , but I love the way it looks, the function of the lost weight--and did i say it turns heads? So on with the build- First everything had to come out. The seats sat up too high, didnt bolster me around the truns, and frankly I am not a fan or corbeaus. Not to metion all of the freakin sound deadener this car had... LIke 5x my civic!!!! haha Anway This is what I was in for: Panels out, Everything sanded, wires tucked, brides and new harnesses... Not to mention had to mod the roll bar. Took it to KrazyHouseCustoms in North Jersey and they added a roll bar for me. As you can see the bar was NOT the safest that was in there LOL but it was what came with the car: Anyway--- continue on-- I sourced some Brides, and Stroud Harnesses, some rustolem paint, and covered the dash in a wonderful black alcantar supplied by Joanne Fabrics for 30 bucks a Yard. Additionally the speakers w/ custom ported boxes in the storage bins behind the seats had mounts that were wrapped in that same alcantara as well as the switchplate you see in my first post. Now the dash was super cluttered before-- I hated it. So I took the radio and put it between the seat and the trans tunnel with a mount I fabbed out of simple sheet metal from home depot. It does not play CDs anymore but this 79.99 head unit from Target has the ability to read off of SD cards, and USB drives so its skip free and great (If any of you have that problem I recommend. So a final shot w/ a little of the car in it as well-- lets you see what people see-- and you can imagine this type of thing is the difference between seeing a cool Z on the street from afar, and having to walk over and see what its all about... (At least in my opinion) All work was done solely by me, and it felt really good to get it done. I am not that experienced with this type of stuff but I think it came out great. its not a show car, its not a race car its just some thing that I really really enjoy building (like cooler legos) and driving. I know the setup is not for everyone, but thats why its mine! It will see some track time (Drag) and maybe some autox if I can tune the suspenion by next year, but for the most part its a weekend beach goer with some pickup and I love it. Thanks for looking guys:

Well the diff is halfway in--- totally forgot to check if the yoke was correct so wel have to take it off the mustache bar again in the moring. Its 3:30am and I am pooped but I cant wait to get everything back and running again. It was fun for sure
-
As you can see there are some significant differences in the fitment of both- I am not sure exactly which one is right though--- Any thoughts? (Oh I Painted one of the covers black because its easier to distinguish on the forum which a person is talking about. -Eric
-
Thank you guys: As for the diff cover--- I pressed in the the platic piece on the cover that was broken just now and there are 2 different levels of clearance-- tell me if this looks right
-
Cool-- Ya on one of the diff covers the breather is fine--but the other isnt--- If they are the same then Ill jsut use the workable one. I just want this thing good to go for the NJZCC annual car meet in 2 weeks
-
also---which diff fluid and how much goes in the finished product??
-
Ok so MY driveshaft popped out when i was going for a cruise and had to get it towed back home--- so now I might as well throw in the r200 I have had sitting in my garage for the past year or so. Puma FTW. Anyway, I have 2 covers, 2 yokes and an R180 still in the car. Yoke Question: The holes on the 280z yoke that I bought are bigger then the ones on the driveshaft. Is that even the right yoke? Can I use the one thats on my diff now? Can i transfer the r180 yoke over? The covers look the same to me. The one without hte mustache bar is the one that originally came on the diff. The one with the mustache bar was one I was sold by another Hybrid Z member as the right one that I need. Mustache bar fits perfectly on both. Finally I have a diff breather thingy that I bought of ebay because I was told to---not really knowing exactly where it goes or why--- HEre it is--- any help? Anyway--Worse comes to worse I can always just bolt up the driveshaft and save the diff project for another day-- but its something I have been meaning to do for a LONG LONG time (years) and i should really get on it Thank you in advance -Eric
-
Well as luck would have it its back off the road lol... driveshaft popped right off of the diff--- May take this time to do the old 200 swap. So sad knowing that the trans is next...

Over the past 2-3 months every weekend I have been sweaeting over this interior to get it just right--- It has made it through 2 stages of ugly and finally landed where I think it should be. Same way I did my first project car. Its Friday night at 11:30, I am TIRED as can be- but here are 2 teasers of the finished product before I go into more detail of the build tomorrow night. Just some cliffs notes-- The entire dash was and accesory pieces were wrapped in alcantara/suede (Black). All lighting was replaced with outstanding pieces from SuperBrightLEDs (before and afters will be shown) Switches were relocated to a custom piece where the changeholder is. Radio mounted between the trans tunnel and the driver seat, and the addition of a Uego, some paint, some monkey bars and a whole lot of sweat and blood.
-
Felt awesome!!! I cant tell you how happy I was when it started today after everything was together. Once I get some good daylight pics I will be able to show what I did to the interior (sound deading removed and everything painted) but everything got rewired, tucked, regrounded, and it ran like a CHAMP. Stock 260z r180 diff. Rb25det, stock turbo @ 11lbs and RB20 trans. Still awaiting tune on powerFC after r200 swap and mandrel bent exhaust.
-
Just rewired my car, and got it running STRONG--- best its ever felt-- quick 1-2 pull with my buddys s2k who I can still beat until next week when hes turbo http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=edBjUeb3bGw -E

Wastegate Creep vs Wastegate Plenum
streeteg replied to Jesse OBrien's topic in Turbo / Supercharger
The easiest/cheapest way to control boost is to run no boost controller and just let it operate off spring pressure. With the properly combined springs you can acheive a static boost level for the cost of the springs -
Wastegate Creep vs Wastegate Plenum
streeteg replied to Jesse OBrien's topic in Turbo / Supercharger
Youre best bet is an electronic boost controller for control over boost. It uses an actuator that allows the gate to open at an exact pressure, and maintain it with limited variance. They are more expensive but allow you to run options such as boost by gear and scramble boost. They work in conjunction with your ECU and do very well for the money. -E -
My buddy has a d-jetro PFC and has 2 spare MAFs from his 26---which could be good cause i have a bad maf on my 25---- Are they the same part? I have a power FC and a z32 MAF as well, I just am not sure how good the basemap on the FC is for the Z32 to be cruising around-- -E

stock boost on my rb25 untuned i made 215 through a maf @ 7psi. tuned +14 lbs i want to be around the high 200 low 300 range but it may a long shot to break the 300whp mark on a mustang dyno. Not to mention my dyno didnt look nearly as nice as that one. We will see. Very impressive though
