this is great thanks for some guidlines guys. there's a shed on the side of my house about the size of a one car garage only longer, until now i figured i would just turn it into storage for the projects in the wings as we build our shop. if i were to put some 12'' floor fans (maybe two drawing and two blowing like bart was saying) and a PCV frame inside the shed lined with heavy mill plastic... would that work? what kind of heating is required to ensure a proper dry?

i have to agree with pick, if you're uncomfortable in any way doing the rebuild yourself don't even bother. turbos are expensive no matter how you look at them, you could save some money on labor if you're comfortable. the key to it is if you're uneasy with the work don't try it you can end up losing alot more money. there are several mail-in shops that you can send your turbo into as a core and they'll send you a rebuilt one for the price of labor. good luck in your endevour.

Does Your Hybrid Attract Crazy People?

i think everyone who's ever driven the streets can think of at least one entertaining story... i guess i can share my favorite, ok two... the first was shortly after i moved back home for awhile, totally different story, i was cruising the 95 in las vegas right past downtown in the '71 chevelle some kid pulls up next to me and said "OH WHAT YOU THINK YOU'RE BAD A** BECAUSE YOU HAVE NO HOOD!?" (it was being prepped and painted in my mom's garage haha) so i just responded with a simple "no, not really." for some odd reason he got really upset =/ he started revving his eclipse and i heard the faint sound of a BOV... naturally at this point my interest is peaked since up until then it was just a kid being a kid... i indulged him and snapped the speedo over gaining maybe a car or two before he let out of it which i of course laughed at thinking he was worried about losing face until i saw the highway patrol car up ahead and flipped... the cop pulled over the kid in the eclipse!! ...made me feel pretty good to be back home. the second happened a few weeks later when i was teaching my girl friend of the time how to drive stick in my step dad's little pontiac grand prix... some guy at the local parts store who drove a primered F150 Lightning (you guys remember those?) no clue why but he revved his engine up which scared her since she was still unsure of how to drive the car... so i told her just to let it go which of course she refused and revved back... the guy launches hard leaving a nice cloud of smoke behind him. when i asked her why she did it she said "watch... he's going to learn a lesson here..." then you see those good ol' blue and reds flashing comin' from the turn lane to the left of us! i had to bite my lip to keep from cracking up, she didn't hold the same courresy haha... it's never what you drive or even how you drive it... it's just that some people feel the need for the ego boost... they're the guys that've never had a REAL race in their cars. -
if memory serves he said he was fourteen in another post... that's not to say the point is valid, however with the proper budget any engine can better another. look at the ecotec... they've made 1k+ horse power drag versions... wonder how much it cost though... anytime you swap an engine you lose alot of that "reliability" because it's not it's original home, just my opinion. ^.^

gijonas; i've gotta agree with fred 110%, i've never seen a widebody i truly fell for until this. i can't wait to see the thing finished. i love what you did with the doors i read the entire thread through:shock: i was looking at all of this thinking you were going to continue the 3'' from the rear and taper it down to a smaller gap at the fenders... man am i glad i was wrong, it was just a strange visual in my head, making any sense? i've gotta say the point i'm trying to make is this car is just beautiful, congratulations on your work.

yeah actually they aren't that hard as long you're willing to do some work... i've got two actually the '65 is for sale at 16k it's pretty much a resto minus the wheels/tires/and stereo... it's a numbers matchin' 327SS and my chevelle i got for 5k and my old pickup... 307 malibu the 350 swap cost me around 1k all together it put down some great power and i love them both. if it's something you really want find the low models and build it how you want to, the impala sucked me dry because i bought it as an ss - .- the chevelle i bought as a malibu and built i drove it daily for months on end and now it's waiting for a new project engine but anyways i ramble, if you're willing to work on it you can get good cars cheap. -

light cars + huge power = usually funny as hell to watch. ...although... huge power + large geared final drive on street tires = funnier... i wish i still had that video, some guy at the local dragstrip back in highschool with a 5.0L Mustang trying to stick 500rwhp (or so he claimed) to the ground at 4,000rpm on street tires.... made some pretty smoke though -lol lol- -
well you've got plenty of positive feedback so far, just remember one good is enough to balance at least ten negative. what matters in the end is that you're happy with your car!! i think the adition of the vents will set it off nicely, you've got a keen eye for style on this bart don't let anyone tell you otherwise. edit: i agree with astrohog's original post, while the large fade would look good it's alot of body to cover with a graphic transition, bringing it through the bumpers would accent the whole car. i'm not one for large graphic sections it brings that whole "rice" thing to mind, not that they're bad so long as they're done in taste. again... do what you think looks best bart, best of luck.

noooooooooo i mean the first gen 350 truck engine that i built in the chevelle that ran against cobras couldn't possibly do the same in the datsun ^.- alright i get the feeling we should end up making an actual board devout to the discussion of the whole twin-charge setup, etc. what'ya think 280zwitha383? -

haha wow that made feel old, even though i'm only a twenty haha, the impala started out as my old man's little toy. we tore into and found out it was a numbers matching engine and trans!! he ended up putting a factory replacement interior in it and now we alternate driving it daily. i've got a few pics i can take plenty more since she's just sittin' in the driveway right now haha. -

there's no way i'd stick a BBC in a z car, with my right foot i'd kill myself pretty quick... it'd be in the chevelle, after the chassis mods i'm doin' once she gets back up here 1000+ whp will be possible without losing the safety, speeds fun only gettin' one pass isn't... i've seen some great small block builds 350s running up to 800whp on all engine... until the guy revs it to far and loses the whole setup because he went cheap on his rods... what do you think grumpy, would a nitroused bbc be worth the money, or a well built force fed small block? either myself or my bud can do all the fab work on the charge piping, intercooler, etc. you've pointed out the whole horse power on demand thing which is a big deal for me... i like to be able to drive my cars as well as race them, thanks for your time and input. -

thank you very much, i don't mind books bieng used either. i'm seriously contemplating the whole nitrous game i'm torn between a nitroused big block and a twincharged small block. you guys are all very friendly and helpful i'd like to thank all of you for that as well. -

any idea where i could get that book you mentioned, the one by david vizard? i'm interested in buying it. grumpy turned me onto that other forum which sparked the intellectual inside me and i'd like to follow up on the nitrous concepts. thanks in advance! -

i was actually waiting for your response haha, the twin charge has alot to offer for those not wanting to run nitrous. you can put a clutch on the pulley so when the turbos hit full spool the sc cuts out leaving an open gap for the turbo's compressed air to flow through. VW did this succesfully in a factory car!! you use a relatively small sc for serious low end umph then larger turbos so you have a high top end power. the concept if designed right basicly gives you the opportunity to have a full powerband that's bumped up incredibly. there's alot of research to be done, on my part, and if you're interested i'll post links or PM links as i pull it together. -
i was interested in a stroker motor in a z, assuming i can find the car soon, thanks yet again grumpy for an excellent link providing some outstanding reading.

to each his own -shrug- he was asking about turbo kits, and i was trying to help with the information i've got. i've done some really great small block chevy builds, all of which were NA, but if someone wants to build turbo and sc engines by all means more power to them. my buisness partner spent most of his time building MR2s both sc and turbo, i've seen them put down some serious numbers too. -

grumpy i appreciate your help, immensly, a friend of mine who has very few NA builds under his belt and more force fed builds than i care to count and i designed the project to be something different. the original idea was a twin turbo 383 that would have a wide boost range for streetable use, that you could crank the boost back up and put down serious time slips... i'm starting to question the build happening at all, i'm losing interest in the whole concept of the project, mainly because the ideals i had starting it have slipped into obscurity. i've never built a nitroused block, but i'll admit they've always fascinated me... are they difficult to wire, and plumb? -
go for it bart i think that'd just be downright sexy on a z! you'd get peoples eyes glued to it so tight you'd be draggin' 'em for blocks! great idea, stick to your concept and i guarentee everyone's goin' to have something to say.
