  1. My dad has an 89, and the power is definately there. A few things to consider about the speed of the car. It is in a 4000lb car with a very docile 3speed auto and an insanely high final drive. Guys who have put t56's in them have reported very large gains in peformance.
  2. thanks man, You made my week.
  3. very very nice. Now how quick 0-60 and 1/4 do you think i would be with a 5speed in a 240. I have yet to get it running to test it so im getting excited.
  4. while this conversation is going on, i may as well ask how much power you guys think my car is putting out. I have: l24 block bored .4over 72 head, ported, and 3 angle valve job Flattops that are flush with top of the bore Schooler cam no 483 timing at the 3rd mark, or about 8degrees advanced straight through exhaust roundtop su's k&n's EDIT: I also have a 6-2-1 header that i seem to have forgotten about. Thanks
  5. arg, i really wanted to see that!
  6. I havent seen the episode but i have read about the car the are showing, it is a lexus is300 with the big 4.3l from the higher end lexus's, making it an is430. its pretty nice. red and black paint scheme right?
  7. well, keep in mind if taka is a pro, he has enough power to break normal tires with good grip loose fairly easily. I always thought the reason for this was to have less flex and squirm, so that a clutchkick from a lower powered car would be able to break em. And from what ive seen of lower end drifters, they tend to go pretty slowly. Sure the pros go fast, but they're sponsored, have fast cars and limitless tires. The guys who buy used tires and go out in a lot and fool around are the guys who i though would have this, and who originated the style. I could very well be wrong though.
  8. These are more often seen on 510's but they are very oldschool, and you wont see them at your local z club meeting. They are the American Racing libre's. With a black or body color center, and a polished lip they look great. I have these in 14in on my car and love them. This is the best pic of my car i can get right now, as the car is not running so i cant get it outta the garage.
  9. ok excuse my inexperience in the hot rodding world, but what is channeling. I know what chopping is, and i suspect that channeling is making the body taller, or something to that effect, but i dont really know. please explain. thanks.
  10. to make the rs4 rear wheel drive all you have to do is remove a belt, though that makes it virtually impossible to drive because it also limits braking to the rear wheels.
  11. yea i was just going to ask what the difference chassis wise was. i might have to make my rs4-2 a drift car.
  12. Most modern LeMans cars use not only a flat bottom, but a second splitter rearward of the front wheels that brings about a 1.5in vertical slice of air up and out and the top or sides. something simple just to push it out the sides might create a significant vaccuum. at the least if the strakes were gradual enough it might smooth out the turbulent airflow under the Z.
  13. found a cheap, clean 240sx for sale in the area, but it turned out to be auto. grr. and the search continues.
  14. and believe it or not, that car started life as a silvia.
  15. as soon as the kids dad hears mr2 or mustang the deal will be off. Im not even kidding. he has to get something pretty low key. Thanks guys, keep em coming.
  16. does anyone have experience with the later fwd gts's, because those sell for considerably less than the ae86's. Well i was trying to talk him into a nx2000 which are light little cars that handle well. What are some other good fwd cars that you can think of.
  17. i have tried to talk him into getting a little civic or other small fwd car. but he is pretty much a rwd fanatic. I dont think he will drive anything that isnt. And again the fox body wont be cool with his parents. Thanks again for the input.
  18. thanks for the ideas guys. He definately could not get a mustang or mr2 past his parents. They are pretty adament about the non-sportscar thing. It is very annoying. I will definately look into the s10 idea. The thought of a pickup had crossed my mind after driving with my friend who owns a stick v6 ranger. Any more thoughts would be greatly appreciated.
  19. My best friend recently was involved in an accident with his 1991 300zx 2+2. He hit a small patch of black ice at very reasonable and legal speed and plowed into a very tall curb, basically destroying his front suspension. He is already in debt from a previous accident, and does not have the money to fix the car. He also does not have collision coverage with his insurance. He is going to sell the car in its current condition for what he can and is expecting a couple thousand for it. His house also very recently burned down so he now is in desperate need of transportation. He wants something that he can have fun in, but wont be too expensive. At this point, his parents arent going to let him buy a sports car like another z or a supra. His other requirements are rwd, around $1000,manual, and reasonably practical. The cars we have been looking for so far are the 240sx, the eighties 200sx, and the ae86 corolla gts. If you guys can suggest another model that would fit the bill please do. and if you have one of these cars for sale or found one for sale in the NJ/NY/PA area, please let me know. Thank you for all of your help.
  20. not to knock your math or anything, but wouldn't there be a sizeable amount of drag involved with the charger, lowering hp. so to get that same 350hp, you would need to make somethink like a calculated 400 and use 50 to drive the blower. Just a thought.
  21. not that im close to the point where i could swap an engine, but where do they source the engine you swap with, do you have a choice?
  22. my rats nest...err..interior. notice the quality fiberglass on the floor, and the expert wiring, care of the previous owner.
  23. Nick- Yes there is a silver 260 behind mine. That picture was taken at the home of the previous owner who had the 260 as a parts car, it was very rough but not in horrible condition. If i didnt have to drive 900miles i would have bought it.
  24. very nice work now here is my question, My car has had some cheap bodywork done on it. How would i get the lower crease, the deep lip type one, to look right on the fenders and doors. The previous owner went the easy way out and just blended it into the fender at the rear but it bothers me. if you have any ideas please let me know, thanks.
