  3. http://www.cuttingedge.org/News/n1207.cfm interesting! just something i came across.
  4. well it qiut running all together the other day. i replaced the water temp senser and it idles alright now but way to rich. i know its just to rich cause it wont rev or nuthing but if i hold the throttle 1/4 the way down it just sputters , not rev. but if i cut the fp off while holding the throttle it will smooth out and rev up fast till it runs out of fuel. so thats the symptom. i will soon post the cure just as soon as i figure it out. i have some very knowledgable friends, a haynes manual. and a decent mechanic's head on my shoulders, but i would be lost without hybridz! thanks. ^ and yet another gay moment by flatbackz.
  5. how bout a first gen rx7 ? aerodynamic and light.
  6. actually if you flat blacked it. then when you go to prep fer final paint just scuff it real good with a scotchbright pad. that way you'd be less likely to get any waves on the surface then with 220. works just fine.
  7. are you taking it down to bare metal or are you just gonna paint over the the old paint? i would start at 120 grit if your leaving the old paint on there, but if your goin to take it down to bare metal then i'd start at 40 grit.i would take it down to the metal and get each panel as straight and perfect as i could. and dont let it set in primer any longer then you have to. primer absorbes moistour out of the air. if you leave it in primer too long then your paint will start bubbling and crap later on down the road. if i was you then i would primer it then paint it with some rattle can semi flat black. i used this on the hood of my z and the color is very nice. kinda like a satin but not real shiny. i think it was krylon but not sure. but that way you could ride around as long as you needed untill you got the car painted and be worry free. then when you get it painted just block it wiith some 220, and the wipe it down with some cleaner. oh yea, you definately want to use a block fer the sanding. i would suggest that you got a book that you could read more about prep and paint fer cars. hope i didnt say anything that sounded too stupid!
  8. no. the inside handle and the outside handle connect to the latch seperatly. so you wouldnt need the pivot bolt if you dont want to use the inside latch handle. at least on my 77!
  9. i would love to see this car finished the way you were goin in the first place.the only thing i would do would be to shorten the front just a "tad". and round it off just a little.but i luuuv the rear end of the car. just my $0.02
  10. my car has a pantera hatch, and a wing thats about 4-6 inches lower then the roofline. it sits right at the back of the car. kind of ricey, but being this tall do ya'll think it will take care of the ill effects of the hatch conversion? i sure dont know nothin bout aerodynamics,it was all i could do to spell the word just now!lol but it looks like to me that the wing would catch the wind and carry it off the back of the car before it could start swirling or whatever it does back there. i like the pantera, but if it proves to be a hazzard at high speed, then it will have to go.
  11. i agree. i dont know why, but i love the mid '70s to early '80s custom styling. my favorite example is the 69 stingray in corvette summer. that car was badazzz
  12. i would think that it would work as long as you didnt cut out the hole for the pivot bolt for the latch linkage. are you gonna brace it?
  13. well i got the brakes bled and got the clutch working, and almost got fired as soon as i took it out! i went out one end of the shop flew to the other side and brought it around the corner sideways, right in front of my gm. then turned it around once and brought it back into the building. i wasnt trying to show off or anything i just kinda got carried away! it was the first time i've ever driven a Z!!! it was worth all the trouble and borrowed money though. i must say that much.
  14. yes its true. i am a youngin, but im old enough to drink so thats a plus! i used to lift too, ha ha but this was as good as it ever got. oh well, at least i tried. and yes thats me in the air,um...thats all i have to say bout that one.
  15. well, yeah but i used a stubby, so it aint that big but i can have another key made and just use the one at shows. but then people might think its just a screwdriver jammed in my ignition, lol i dont care, whatever.
  16. oh yeah, i also modified the key too! i saw it on some jdm car in a mag, i took a stubby screwdriver and heated the metal part untill i could slide it out of the plastic handle, then i took my key and ground off the edge's a little and holding it with some plier's i sat the head of the key on the end of the screwdriver handle and heated the key untill i could push it down into the handle. so now i have a screwdriver key! yes i know, im wierd, but oh well.
  17. well i poured some bg fuel treatment in the tank and it cleaned out the injectors in like 30 seconds. runs perty good now. i had to run a hot wire with a toggle switch fer my fuel pump cause it went out, and my starter is crap. now all i need to get it on the road is to get the clutch workin, and the brakes as well. hopefully they wont need to much. but it did sit fer like 2 years i think. so there's probally alot of stuff dried out. runs rich too. oh well, it runs, and sounds gooood, so i'm really happy!
  18. very helpful thanks! ya i found that pic but couldnt make nothing out.
  19. my haynes manual sucks. where is the fuel relay? 77' 280z l28e.
  20. hell ya!! it was 180 out. took care of that and it fired up. its got a good miss to it but sounds killer when revved. it has a header with three inches all the way back to a apexi can. sounds pretty good. im finally on my way! yay fer me!......ok that was gay...im sorry.
  21. well i decided to start a biuld thread fer my z. it will be a very boring thread though as the updates will be far and few between. but here's where im at so far. i sent my head to get checked for cracks, new stem seals, valves, yada yada. i just got it together about 30 mins ago and turned it over. starter is a little slow and it hasnt fired yet but hopefully i'll get it sorted out soon. i verified fuel pressure, and spark but i havent checked to make sure the injectors are firing, so i still have some stuff to check out before i run out of ideas. i figured i'd check some threads on here that i've seen before, that were goin thru the same prob. maybe one of them will point me in the right deirection. so the fun has finally begun.
  22. if i had to get rid of one, i would keep the fairlady.
