Ah yes 240mm. 250 didn't look right when I typed it...

Hope you changed out the axles on that Spitfire. Even with 90hp they snap and guess what, the hub goes with you, and the wheel too! Happened to my dad so many times he decided to design a 1 piece half shaft so if they do break the wheel doesn't fly off. He never made too much money off them so he sold the rights to Summers Brothers. To stay on topic, my first car is the car I have. 1972 240z 3.1L

How does one get the girlfriend in the loud "scary" Z car...?
josh817 replied to josh817's topic in Non Tech Board
Her not wanting to ride in my car isn't a problem that we would fight over. Its just a silly thing that I wish she could get over because Mom's car isn't going to be the thing I drive when we are together all the time! I've been wanting to go hangout with the Z guys up here in North Texas. When I got my V07 crank from Pete he said I should hang out with the dudes sometime and see what its like. This is the spot where I say "and I could bring the girlfriend too" WRONG. I have a feeling Big-Phil would scare her away. She will just have to get over it. The only thing I shall hide from her is the total amount I have spent on that car. $900 right now, $150 ticket, $140 spent in 2 weeks from being with her (its ok it built us up as a couple so it was worth it), rest is paint/body/ignition/exhaust for the car. I think the car is my hobby so its like yah I spend all my money on it, either that or a computer which keeps me inside all day playing games. As long as the car doesn't break down with horrible luck like on a cold rainy day out in the middle of nowhere, she will be fine. Its realiable for the most part! Some sort of ignition issue that makes it miss after 3500RPM but hey! EDIS-6! It'll be a fun project! And YES! RED HAIR! I was worried at first that she might be into some weird kinky stuff or that she might kill me in my sleep. Well... she hasn't yet... First red head that I've ever dated. I don't do kinky, ma'am: -

I take turns fast? My motor doesn't have the sort of power that an LS1 has so I'm not sure... Videos of occasional drives: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_BXs1svOc5s and http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=asM-MVAg9LA -
Pm sent. I am curious about the process but the threads seem to be so old that the pictures aren't showing up...

Just go out and get the turbo flywheel, ebay $50 read to bolt on, it should be a 250mm clutch surface where as the smaller flywheels are 225mm. Then search for XTD clutches I think it is. They make ceramic puck clutches which comes with clutch, pressure plate, throwout bearing, bushing, and alignment tool. The clutch was $110 or something like that shipped to my house. :] With those low prices, I say just go with the bigger flywheel and that clutch to avoid any mishaps. With the bigger flywheel you can also use the old clutch because the old clutch is a 225mm but the flywheel is 250mm so you know... However I don't know if the bigger flywheel will work in a 4speed tranny. I know if you want to run a T5 you need the turbo flywheel.

How does one get the girlfriend in the loud "scary" Z car...?

Loud noises scare her. Every time we come up to a light (with the ticket cameras) and it turns yellow I shout at the top of my lungs and she freaks out. I offered ear plugs because I admit it is rather loud in my car, however on my stroker build page we can assume that I did not build the car to be a street friendly happy AC/radio lounge. I hate being in her car just about every time because to me, girls shouldn't drive, nor should they pay or anything else like that. She IS opening up a little bit and said lets take your car, and no its not because she wanted to save gas because her parents give her gas money. The only reason why she was so embarrassed at the game was because the school we were at was her old school and all her friends go there. She thinks that nobody likes loud noises. Perhaps she should reconsider sometime soon because I'm taking the 6-1 header off and putting a 6-3-2 on.:-DShe will need to start liking it soon. Couple of months and we're off to college. Hopefully we both get into A&M. Then again, things could go horribly wrong and we hate each other before college but she seems pretty clingy right now. I however find myself lucky for right now that she is dedicated. The last girlfriend of a year and a half was very supportive with my car and everything however over the summer while I was rushing to finish my motor so I can have transportation for school, she thought it would be a good idea to get tossed and play naked pool games with other boys, then lie about it. Oh and she did that 3 times, each time I figured out and she said she would stop. She asked for a 4th time and I laughed. No wonder she loved me when I worked on her car ehhh. The one thing that makes me sad now is that I can't go to sonic and get free food. Lying woman, if you see her, RUN!: I guess we better get back to the main point. How to swoon the redhead into my spectacular vehicle... And she's not the only one who thinks its scary. My mom is afraid of it, she is afraid of it, Kaitlin (girl up top) was afraid of it when it was a turbo, etc... honestly it NOT that bad. They said if I get some 4 or 5 point harnesses and a cage it would even more scary. WHAT?! Its safer! *sigh* -
Dude I just had a mini-mouth throw up... With that said, I named mine Tracey! <== Thats with an E.

Ten Cars And The Type Of Women They Attract

Hahahaha! "Pucker up, this one likes menthols" -
My latest problem is that the new girlfriend will not get in my presious little Z car! She says it scares her. My solution: drive like a normal person when she's in the car. This has failed though... We went to her old Christian school to watch a basketball game the other night. After the game we go back to the car and everyone is playing in the parkinglot and such having a good time. Well... its cold out and I have to pump the throttle to fire her up. She wants to die down because I don't have the chokes hooked up to the Webers so I have to help my baby to her feet and just give a little bit of juice for a couple of seconds at 3000RPM. This apparently is, I am sorry to say, "to loud". She was so embarrassed that all her friends thought my super cool Datsun Z car was indeed very super cool. Now she makes me drive my moms Honda Civic or I have to play passenger (I hate passenger...) in her purple PT Cruiser. Dorky little purple turd. I would have thought the woman wouldn't get in because the car is so ugly its almost a masterpiece but no, its because she hates the lovely sounds of triples and a 1 chamber Flowmaster! I don't think it helps either when the gas tank vent hoses are old so it smells like fumes sometimes, the seatbelts are hard mounted, and there isn't any AC or heater. But hey! there isn't any rust either! So ladies and gentlemen, how do I swoon my gal into the White Gazelle? More mufflers are not an option by the way. Do I leave a trail of Bath and Bodyworks lotion to the car, she likes those an awful lot. Maybe spray a deadly amount of Tommy Hilfiger cologne so her female senses overide the gasoline smell and close in on the sexy scent of myself. Woman and her momma who thinks I do dirty unmentionable things with her daughter, because I do...: Myself: Very Super Cool Datsun Z Car:

As you can see Derek, you are almost up there with my daddy. The reason why you are not passed him is because he is my daddy and he's pretty cool. Does a lot of cool stuff yah know... However he hasn't built his own EFI system which was the real boost for you, otherwise such high approval ratings would not be possible. Also, DragonFly would be passed you, after all, he did balance his valve train. Daeron, you're up there because you helped me through my stroker build. TonyD, you're up with the big dogs too because you are the king of big dogs. Don't have any hard feelings about people beating you, just remember that I still love you. I tried to make a MAP 3D graph thing in Excell but I failed big time, couldn't figure out what my third axis should be... I did however make my Love Graph kind of 3D here. I also added the minor axis lines for you accurate people. You're doing awesome Derek!

Use proper oil and they should be fine for a long long time. Lets just put it this way. We're using lifters from over 30 years ago with who knows how many miles on them. Solid lifter, if you look at them and/or take them apart, you basically have a locknut, the pivot head, and then the body of the lifter. I guess if you manage to wear out the pivot head (the only part which would have metal on metal action) then you just screw them out some more... I've never heard of a case of solid lifters wearing out. Hydraulics are a different story though which I wouldn't know how to answer.

.495/290º cam setup in my car so the springs should be hot ones. I'm just switching over to the EDIS setup since its so cheap. I guess my advice now would be to do the Accel HEI module and get a hot coil since its cheap, then do Crane or MSD. OR just avoid the module and get the E12-80 dizzy because the module is for the dummy dizzies which need an ECU to tell them when to fire and if you don't have the ECU like myself then you need the module. For anyone who wants my old ignition setup just PM me. It would be coil, module, and dizzy. Of course thats after I'm done with the EDIS conversion.

Yes. The reason for the Timeserts is because the threaded end of a hydraulic lifter is bigger than a solid lifter. What the Timesert does is screw onto the bottom of the solid lifter, essentially making the bottom threaded portion larger, which screws directly into the head. For instance, I have 2 P90A heads and an E88 head. I took the solids from the '72 E88, did the Timeserts, and they fit in no problem on an '83 P90A. We are lucky that Datsun/Nissan made the L-series stuff interchangeable for the most part. Otherwise how would we have strokers?! :] I do love my stroker. Sometimes it feels like its stroking me. >_> Anyways! Goodluck! Go check out this thread for all the heads and info about heads. I know that on the Z motors (don't ask me about the L28D), their heads go up to a P90A and it was the P90A which had hydraulics. All the other ones have solids so get out there and find one. You can do me a favor actually and find a really crappy, cracked, warped head and pull the lifters. When you're done scrapping it, take cross sectional cuts so I can port another head and not hit water. :] haha http://forums.hybridz.org/showthread.php?t=129066

Follow the steps I did and watch Big-Phils video for a demonstration: "I called up Timeserts, $27 and a day later (they have a distributor here in the DFW area) I had them! First thing is first though! If you have old solid lifters like I do, the lock nut is on there REALLY tight, break them loose first. Save yourself from that problem because if you don't break them loose and you torque the lifter in, they'll probably loosen the entire lifter from the head and you have to go do it over again... -Take them ALL apart and clean them of any old yucky stuff. -Assemble them and screw the adjuster head thing all the way down. -Screw the timesert onto the lifter WITHOUT lock tight, make sure they are screwed ALL the way onto the lifter so the lifter doesn't turn when you torque them down. -WITH lock tight (I used red but I think the red is a bit much for this), go around the outside threads of the timesert, screw into head and torque to 30lb. Not to gun him down but Steveosupremeo said he filled in the oil holes, I don't think this is necessary if your essentially corking up the hole anyways. Also when you apply your locktight, make sure its at the top of the threads and use just a drop. You don't want the locktight to dribble down into that oil hole and clog up the oil galley or something!" Should help. :]

Derek... Why are you holding back on us... You cannot hide your photobucket from me. I have seen more pictures of the beauties mounted on the head. Looks sexy. In fact, so sexy that photobucket my ban the progress pictures!

At Texas World Speedway in the CVAR club some guys had those... Saturday is keg night and of course, give them all 7 kegs of free beer and things like that happen.. a lot... Its even worse when you give them the gokarts with roll bars. Couldn't help but laugh at the "related video" Haha

Yah the only readings I get from the plugs are at idle since I never have done a clean shut down. I'll probably have a dyno day sometime an January and then we can see if the torque drops off at that point. I'm still new so I can't feel the difference between torque and horsepower. The head is ported and polished, matched intake manifold, 6-1 headers however I'd like 6-2-1, with 40mm triple Webers which is probably a constraint there at higher RPM's. I really need to check what the venturi sizes are in them. Thanks for the reading material! Now lets hope any ignition upgrades won't fry the module...

I am having the same problem. Once I hit 5500RPM it feels like the power drops off. The cam I have is suppose to go from 3500-7500 (290-F or something like that from Schneider). However there are several things... 1: It could just be feeling the torque drop off since thats a typical spot 2: I don't have my wideband installed yet so maybe something there 3: I have a Borg Warner HEI module, however it looks and is labeled exactly the same as the GM kind so I'm not sure if the issues are the same. I read up that the GM one, meant for V8's, loses power in the higher RPM's or something like that due to the coil falling behind with demand. With that said, if its the coil that falls behind, does a Fireball coil or any of those hotter spark coils fix the problem? They're cheap so I bet its worth messing around with. I'm seeing how expensive those Holley dizzy's are in my catalog, add MSD or Crane to it and you have a lot of money in ignition! With that sort of money, are there any ECU's that do strictly ignition. I looked into SDS but they have fuel injection too. It would be really cool to lose the dizzy and use a trigger wheel or something. Then again... I don't know how I would get the front pulley bolt off with the motor in the car...

http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=5365248990111962813 ^ You need to get what we have at my dad's shop http://videos.streetfire.net/video/TopGear-12X3-La-batidora_200088.htm ^ Or try that. Don't put an LS1 in your Z. Turn it into a blender and put like an LS7 in your Z. I mean, if you could do that then you obviously have enough money to do the blender. >_>

Goodluck beating 1:06.27... :/ I set the car up to what I like and played for 2 hours. After I hit that time I couldn't do anything close. Average was about 1:06.8... Which puts me down at like 10th place if it was a long race. I don't like anything passed 3rd! Then again... I don't think my setup is very good at all. Its like a qualifying setup really. I don't run a ton of fuel and I use soft tires that wear out after 20 laps. I sat down with this little booklet thing that explains suspension setups. I figured the game is realistic enough to change the handling of the car even with the most minute changes. The booklet is Carrol Smith's blah blah blah. Too lazy to get it.

You made the Wiki excited. That takes a lot! Nice job!

So I have the actual game but you can get the "demo" of Grand Prix Legends. Link: http://files.filefront.com/Grand+Prix+Legends+2004+Demo/;3115568;/fileinfo.html Since the demo version only has Watgens Glenn we should all base our times off that track. You get a variety of cars too, however if you have the actual game, they make mods to let you do '63,'79, etc. rules along with the smaller motors like the 1.5L they used. I say we use whatever the game comes with which is I think '68 3L. I know it was the big motors without wings so its kind of challenging. It gives you a selection of difficulty level, choose Grand Prix (the hardest one). We want to see motors blowing up and parts breaking, none of that baby no damage stuff. So choose whatever car you want and then set it up however you want. We're doing best times so if you want to go out with 10 gallons of fuel and try then go for it, if you want to do 1 lap on 1 gallon and hope to get a better time, go for it. To do a screen shot of what your monitor is displaying hit the "Prnt Scrn/Sys Rq" key which is to the right of the F12 key. Then open up Microsoft Paint or something and do ctrl+v to paste it. Save, upload, share. This is the best I've done (I'm J. Barnard): PS: It really helps if you go out and get yourself a wheel and pedal setup. I have a Momo wheel and I like to use the stick shift rather than the paddles. If you don't have a clutch pedal, you will have to lift off the throttle as usual and just shift. This kind of sucks because I think its the cause of why I blow motors so quickly... They only seem to last me 20 laps and then something happens. Who knows, it works though. A little bonus video thing... I made it a couple of years ago so don't laugh at ANYTHING. Just skip like the first 3:40 because I have no idea what was going on.... http://vids.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=vids.individual&VideoID=2373283

New Paint, and a TEENY bit of frustration...
josh817 replied to YellowFever's topic in Body Kits & Paint
Uh oh the family female knows how to drive a manual gearbox! Thats the only thing that keeps my mom from driving away in my baby. And because its loud and scary but thats besides the point... You can still drive with a cast, just don't put pressure on it, that includes not using the brakes but hey! we all know you don't need brakes, thats what downshifting is for anyways! The police officer didn't believe me when I said I was hoping to slow down by pulling it out of gear... mainly because I was going down a hill... doing 51 in a 30... I was GOING to downshift you just caught me a little too soon! Then he wrote Datsun B210 on the ticket stub even though my insurance card says 240z on it, I didn't feel so stupid after that.
