  1. Resources Enter in custom numbers, you are not restricted to what is in the drop down panels http://www.atlanticz.ca/zclub/techtips/calcs/engine%20builder/index.html'>http://www.atlanticz.ca/zclub/techtips/calcs/engine%20builder/index.html http://www.atlanticz.ca/zclub/techtips/ And of course this place is filled with info if you are diligent.
  2. Yah I see what you mean. Maybe from the angle of your second picture, it makes it look like you will only spray the skirt or just that one side of the piston. These are still the BMW $17 oil squirters right?
  3. How many motors does this guy have? Jeeze Looks neat, are you going to angle the nozzle a little more out towards the piston pin rather than just rotate?
  4. That is indeed a good point. The insurance has already said they will take responsibility. Really it is probably just a matter of reason. The police and insurance already have statements, it is already clear that my actions didn't purposely or accidentally out of stupidity cause the incident. At this point the blame game is too late. Now we look at how much they will give us. As far as my ticket is concerned, the judge shouldn't twist things around. What I mean by that is that we are there to argue the ticket which is driving without inspection, not who was at fault. unless if they throw some crazy curve balls at me I should "win" the case. Had someone I know in law enforcement check to confirm whether or not the car was registered as a classic or an antique. It is registered as an antique, and not only does the Texas dmv and dps website state that antique does not require inspection but legislation statute 548.052 also lists what applications are exempt. Now the tricky bit is that I can walk in with those three proofs but if they ask me to prove that the car is under antique, I cstill haven't found a way to do that because I don't think that legally I can print off registration information of a car I do not own. The car is in the states' system though so they should be able to see it themselves. I can definitely see them sdoing that to me though, show proof and then go oh Yah you can't because you don't have the authority to do so. This however is just more proof that the officer was trying to be as difficult as possible. First he looked up the price of the vehicle when it was FIRST registered which was $5500, and said that's the value of the car.... Yah when the owner first bought it, before he dumped ten times that amount into restoring it . This is blatantly obvious when you see the car, even to one who doesn't know anything about vehicles. He then said damage looks minimal. He then didn't like the photocopy of insurance I had and tried to cite me for not having insurance, and finally he cites me for no inspection even though on his system he can see the car is registered as an antique which would imply that he is either ignorant of the law or he was trying to bust my balls, both of which are unacceptable. I suspect this will call for more action on my part after the court visit.
  5. Wasn't anything to do with the insurance company. My parents are divorced, step mom works for omni hotels. Her and my red decided they couldn't afford it as of January and I didn't get the memo until three days ago. Too late for Mom to put me back onto hers so we are seeking a solution. When I went to the doctor today he said I could file with my own auto insurance if I had PIP, and I do. They will give me money, even though this incident didn't involve any of the datsuns, and then when I'm all well they will go to the ladies auto insurance and settle with them to get their money back. Apparently it won't raise my rates either so w will try that out. Even without insurance, my doctors visit and xrays haven't surpassed $300. $90 for the doctor visit, $100 for the xrays, another $90 for a return visit probably and then two prescriptions. That should be it unless they find something in the xrays. Does anyone know how insurance prices a vehicle. For instance they may say a TR3 is only worth $12000 and if damages are more than $6000 they may decide to total it. However, if we have all the invoices for everything that has been done to the car while it has been built, will they say "ok its not $12000 its whatever you have invoices for"? The main body tub is compressed behind the door in the door jam so it won't be a matter of just fixing fenders and rear panels. The entire back half of the jb will either need to be cut off and a new half welded or tear down the entire car and replace the shell, assuming the chassis is ok. Either way, an expensive endeavor. If her insurance says they won't pay up that much, we will have to go to his classic car insurance. The vehicle is covered for COMPLETE expenses with them, however we obviously are trying to avoid doing that because we don't want the owner to be penalized by his insurance for this incident. Last question, does anyone know of a way us regular public people can see whether a vehicle is registered as a classic or antique? Maybe a carfax or something? Owner has the registration somewhere in a lock box most likely, we do not have it, and I want to confirm that the car is indeed an antique before I go marching into court like a doofus. I seriously appreciate all the help you guys. Never been in an accident of this nature and I would be lost without having people to ask.
  6. There was a thread on this incident floating around here. It may be on page 2-4 in this nontech section.
  7. I keep asking Dad to MAKE SURE the car is registered as ANTIQUE and not CLASSIC. He gets the two confused sometimes but once he confirms that it is a registered antique vehicle then I'm on my way to court. We also checked everything yesterday and yep... EVERYTHING works, even the broken light fixtures when we put new bulbs in them. Funny how everything works AFTER a collision but apparently nothing works before. Maybe it's Lucas! Lesson I learned here is shut the hell up when something happens. When I got out I was shaken, didn't know what necessarily happened. I knew I heard tire squealing and I was slowing down so I blurted something locked up. Cop automatically said brakes, probably because he doesn't know what a stalled motor does when in 1st gear. Even then, who says even a brand new vehicle CAN'T lock up brakes? Whatever the case may be, it doesn't really matter. For what it's worth I could have been parked in the middle of the road with my hazards on or pulled over getting a ticket, anyone he runs into the back its their fault as we have already said above. Attention should be on the road for good reaction time and enough distance should be left between cars so that hopefully with your good/average reaction time, you can apply brakes and actually stop. Jasper, thanks for the tips. I honestly didn't even think of that but it makes sense. I will file a complaint against her and I will have to think about if I will do anything against the officer for reasons listed below. Anyway I was sorely disappointed at the officer. He asked if anyone was injured, both of us seemed fine but he didn't bother listening to witnesses saying this dudes head snapped back and who knows maybe the ladies head snapped forward. As a flagging/safety crew for race tracks we know not to walk up to an accident and ask "are you ok" because even if your arm is hanging off and you're in shock, you're probably going to say yes. The officer then proceeded to rush and hassle me along, like a young punk, yet sooth the woman who was crying. Age and gender difference aside, he shouldn't have hassled. He completely skipped over what I personally would think are necessary steps to make sure peoples heads are clear so he could get correct statements from each of us. Of course I didn't know what was going on after the accident but 30 minutes later I had a clearer assessment of what happened and why or how it happened. The tragic thing is that this was not a big city, in fact this city is 2 square miles; he doesn't have anywhere else to go in a rush, he gets paid to do this sort of thing. When he wrote me a ticket for driving without insurance (false) and driving without inspection, he asked me to sign and I was a bit baffled as to why because I knew the car was insured, after all I HANDED HIM THE PAPERWORK. He wasn't satisfied with a photocopy and he wanted an actual insurance card. Last time I checked, insured vehicles were in the state system for officers to look up so even if I didn't have paperwork he could still see the car was insured. Before I signed for the ticket, being confused I asked him why am I getting these and again he clicked into pushy mode demanding what I was confused about. I explained to him and asked if my father could come over just to be sure I'm not missing something, maybe a document that wasn't in the glove box but perhaps under a seat or something. He asked how old I was, I said 21, he said I was an adult and that I don't need him. Wasn't going to argue so I signed for it, called up dad who was on the phone with insurance having them email him an actual card to print off. I asked the officer to wait just a second for Dad to walk over, he was literally within view coming towards us. He told me "he will only wait a minute and then he's leaving", again rushing to where, you don't get paid to do road duty? Showed the officer and he said "I usually would make you go to court for this but I will remove the no insurance part". Perhaps if he conducted himself in a proper manner he wouldn't have to "grant freebies". I have always disliked officers who rush but I understand in some situations rushing gets the truth out or it gets conflicting lies. It's an accident though, everyone is shaken so you're better off taking witness statements while you let the people involved in the accident chill out in the shade away from each other for a few minutes. I will thoroughly enjoy teaching the law and this is pretty black and white. If it is registered as a classic then I will shut up and defer, if its antique and I am pretty sure it is then I will go to court. I try to avoid this small town/city court and police as much as possible. They follow the good'ol boy system and protect each other A LOT and this particular officer is one of those guys (he has been known to thrive on his authoritative badge) so it's best to not even argue in court if your situation isn't as night and day as this is. Just my little rant. Going to the doctor today. Been avoiding it for the past day because I learned that my health insurance was pulled without my knowledge. The insurance company (USAA) said they will audit the bills to see if they're "reasonable" and make an "offer" after I am done with treatment but in the meantime I have to take on all the bills. If the doctor just sends me home today, then I only have to pay for the one visit but if it takes 6 weeks of physical therapy or something well then I get to pay 6 weeks worth of uninsured bills not knowing what type of stuff they may or may not cover. Good stuff.
  8. I would agree sir... But again like I said, if he comes back at us suing or even if he just thinks less of us and the shop it's going to be a crying shame. Chassis should look like this. Even is something was a little screwy in the back, there isn't much to ruin. Maybe that rear bar or something at the most which is fixable. The back top part is crunched and that unfortunately is part of the main shell but it has a seam from the factory which is welded right behind the door. A lot of work but I suspect it could be cut and another could be put back on... We shall see, thanks for the input. I'm a lost sucker in all this insurance stuff.
  9. Emailed owner tonight and waiting for a response. We're pretty positive the car is on antique registration which exempts you from inspection. It's a self inspection, and upon self inspection today AFTER the accident... yup everything works. Every light works, every switch works, you know... how it should be when you restore a car for copious amounts of money. Classic insurance company said they weren't going to make a claim unless her insurance falls through. Things got even more complicated when her name was different than that of the insurance. Her license was from Texas, the truck plates were from Florida, and the insurance is from Florida with a different name; as if they were boring the car or just bought, god forbid it was stolen. We will get a call from whoevers insurance company that belongs to as to what will happen. Worst case scenario that makes me **** my pants is if they have nothing, then it falls back onto classic car insurance and if this man who is overseas doesn't want to take the blow he will come after us. He's a good friend and customer but we all know that sort of thing can flip around in situations like these. Dad keeps saying the car is totaled. We didn't check yet but he suspects the chassis is crunched. Those things are pretty beefy and I want to think its just body panels. Don't want to downplay the fact with "just body panels" but from the doors forward everything is immaculate. On the underside, no leaks, grinding noises, drives straight, hell the exhaust pipe isn't even collapsed so again... I'd like to think its all fixable without having to redo an entire car. Some pictures, altered color so it won't be obviously which vehicle it is right away... Probably doesn't matter but still I'd like to think so. The spare tire cushioned a lot of the blow. It probably pushed the fuel tank towards me a little bit too judging by that last picture with the bulge through that rear panel. The two witnesses from one of the local shops said my head came back and hit that back part where the snaps are. Glasses in the back kinda show that. Hah it seems like nothing happens when you are ok with money but when you get into a time where you're strapped for cash, everything goes wrong. Dad and I alike know it isn't my fault but just seeing the car, you know how that goes. He builds something from the ground up and then it's smashed and of course that's why I'm disappointed by it all because not only is it a loss of hard work but now you have to do it all over again and maybe on your own dime while you're at it.
  10. Called the ladies insurance, different name then what was on her drivers license. Insurance company is going to get back with me on it but if something goes wrong.... Suing her for the cost or whatever I can do to get it fixed. Getting with the owner as soon as we can, obviously don't want to hide it from him. I honestly wish it were my Datsun... Knowing that I can find parts. Only mark on her car, or whoevers car that she was driving was right in the sent it was dented in from my spare tire, which saved the TR from further damage. One of the local shops saw the entire thing and said that they will give their input. They may have security cams outside too. Ladies husband called up and told my father that I shouldn't be driving be size I don't know how to drive a manual transmission. I've been driving a manual tranny from the first day I had my license... That's neither here nor there, I just need to know how insurance will play out. Never had a car that was borderline write off and like I said before, these cars can be stripped down to the bare chassis. Everything is mechanically sound, no leaks, doesn't look bent in any way so let's cross our fingers that its just body panels. And if you knew the area, you would understand why the police officer was a Boob this time around. The car was studdering a bit until you brought her above 2500RPM. She was rolling, in first, and I guess she had different plans than I did and cut out temporarily. High compression motor though, and not a lot of momentum, locked the tires and before I could get back onto the clutch I was hit. She wasn't even close to having enough distance to react and apply brakes though so even at my slow roll, when I did get on the clutch, we still had some heavy metal to metal contact. Such is life. Thanks for the input Palo. Oh and I'm not positive but I think the owner out responsibility in my fathers name since he won't be back for months at a time.
  11. Police showed up. He wrote me a ticket for the car not being inspected even though its an antique. Told me that if was inspected, then it wouldn't have happened because it would be mechanically sound. Little did he know the car drove two hours out for a car show, which it won second place... Guy next door saw it happen said the lady was on her phone. I'm not here to put blame on anything, the car sits low compared to a dodge pickup but I mean come on... Need to know how insurance will because whatever they don't put up, I guess I'm going to take care of with what little I have set aside for the Z. I will post pictures, in black and white, so this guys car isn't all over the internet. I asked father how much panels are. Quarter panels new are $1500, the rear spare tire plate, $1000, maybe a trunk boot $1500. As long as its just body, I think insurance can take care of it.
  12. Driving a 1962 Triumph TR3 to my fathers shop for some maintenance. Lady was tailgating me big time. I turned back to herband gave her a look, she backed off but by the next red light she was right on me. Literally right on me. Car stalled while in gear and she didn't even hit the brakes, plowed into the back of me. Crinkled up to the door, the rest is ok. Looks to be body damage for the most part and luckily these cars have body panels that come off. It was a $50000 show car, stored for a man who is over seas. I don't know how any of this **** works but right now I'm more shaken from what the Hell is going to happen with insurance rather than the accident itself. It was on classic insurance. I'm sore in the neck but I don't know what to think. I feel like I let my father and my family down. I don't know how we will ever take care of this.... The money just isn't there, not even the time. Thanks guys.
  13. Checked around and didn't see anyone chatting about this guys videos. Pretty cool videos, very nice cars. I think these videos really characterize the Datsun spirit we have. He has a lot more videos on other topics/cars but seems to post more of the Datsun stuff; I'm not complaining, good stuff!
  14. John, I had read somewhere that these cranks shouldn't be lightened IF they are in sustained high RPM's, lets say 7000 and up due to harmonics. Since gun drilling is on the axis of rotation, removing weight from that location wouldn't be harmful like removing material from the counterweights would? Then again, I suspect gun drilling a crank would weaken the last rear main bearing where the crank snaps sometimes. I'm all curious now.
  15. Why not measure its mass, submerge it in some sort of liquid and see how much volume it displaces, and then calculate what the mass of a cubic centimeter of material is. Assume it's uniform density. Calculate the volume of material that will be removed if you gun drill it (obviously just volume of a cylinder). Total mass - mass of material removed = new mass? I'm not sure if it is proper or not to assume uniform density. I figure not, but it gets you in the ball park for sure. Or I mean, I guess someone could just give OP a real answer.
  16. Thanks loy. Moltar you can just PM here, that'll work fine. I downloaded 5spice but couldn't figure out how to work it. I have 8 or 9 other bonus problems that I can't figure out but meh... I don't think I will worry about them I suppose.
  17. Well, I tried 290 and 280 just for grins and neither worked. Worse though, I'm not seeing how it's just 1/3 the current (which I guess is good since that was incorrect). Oh and that's my main problem. If I knew how to draw it out correctly, I could solve without spice program. I just don't know how to draw...
  18. I rather like my thinking where I say ok, current splits into three, then those two legs split into two, blah blah. I can't figure this out and its getting so frustrating I think I just may go to Radio shack, spend a dollar, and get some resistors. lol
  19. Need to find the voltage as shown. I had a previous problem, the typical resistor cube where it was pulling from opposite corners. I found that to be pretty stinkin easy but this guy... I can't find a combination that works. Anyone have any clues? My logic with opposite corners was that the current splits into 3 legs, then those split into another 2, then they come back to three. so that made it [(1/3)+(1/6)+(1/3)]R Thanks guys
  20. I would have to agree. Granted, I never looked into at what angle it would squirt because I shaved mine off... I'm curious about it but I'm with John, I would just as well get the coating and be done with it. Why argue that coating the pistons is not cost effective and "that's why the big names don't do it" when making a system to actually squirt oil on the bottom of the pistons could very well be over $300; not to mention you won't have Teflon coating on the sides it that is what duragg had done too. Coating the chamber and the pistons and isn't there methanol or water injection too? There has to be a reason why people here are making plenty of power without burning out their pistons. Maybe a good tune...? Perhaps if you find a nice spot on a rod to drill a hole, like the stock rods have, and then make a hole in the bearing to correspond, you can get away with it! Otherwise I can't think of a spot to even place squirters. Or take a look at that link, pretty cool but I see no solution as to where you are suppose to pull the oil pressure from as far as Datsun is concerned. The mini has an oil galley running right in there, ours is on the side of the block. Then you must remember an engine, hell the entire car, is a system. If you upgrade one thing, be prepared to upgrade the next. Yes, you have oil cooled pistons now, is the oil pump ready to supply them? If not, what will you do? Perhaps better off listening to John and others who have been successful.
  21. Now that I have a better view, I don't THINK they look like anything special. This is the typical one I'm use to seeing: http://www.ebay.com/itm/HEADER-DATSUN-240Z-260Z-280Z-280ZX-/320894382828?pt=Motors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&hash=item4ab6cbb2ec&vxp=mtr You can tell your #6 tube is angled a little differently probably to get that extra length to make them equal. I don't know... I guess I would just make sure they're equal length, and measure the outside diameter and the gauge of the tubing so you can get an inside diameter size. If its what you want, I suppose a name/brand doesn't really matter, right?
  22. I'm on my phone but I can't really tell what header that is. Obvious differences between yours and mine is that mine has air injection crap on it, and the number 6 pipe on mine is much shorter than my number one pipe. Yours appear to be equal for the most part. What do your collectors look like, are they two distinct merges or are they the popular two pipe three bolt flange? Sorry I'm of no help. Maybe someone else can home in. I don't keep track of header names or brands, I just know which ones have the dimensions that I want. Lol
  23. I don't even like reading that over again. It hurts.
  24. I wanted a two seated so I didn't have to be that guy who car pooled everyone around. Eventually I became the opposite, that guy who no one wanted to ride with, if they wanted to live. I'm still here aren't I?
