HELp!!!! Symptoms: oil bubling at intake manifold car misses wont idle SMoke (lots and lots) once above 3,000 rpm the car flys and really takes off, but it rarely climbs that high, even in neutral. I just replaced the tps, and Im looking for vaccum leaks, fuel filter and etc. Is there any obvious problem (Im waiting for someone to tell me this car is F8*ked) or should i keep on with trying to narrow down what it is wrong. Car is a 1981 280 zx NA, I have the efi bible on hard drive and am reading for the 7th time as we speak. Please any relevant info or advice is appreciated, I have searched and will search further, but the only dumb question is the one that is never asked. Thus, I ask. thanks, Marcus

thanks mike! Im not really a stranger to z's my s30 and I are good friends, i lurk allot on the site, and im on almost every day, but zx's are a different story lol. Guys help! lol. Ne ideas whats going on if you have oil bubbling at the intake manifold, the car misses and blows smoke like a frieght train, I have read the efi bible and the a million threads, Im currently looking at vaccum leaks, fuel filter and etc. I think its fuel related bc if you get the rpms above 3,000 it really takes off like normal but it almost never climbs above 3,000. Im going to clean that tps but i dont think thats the only problem. ugghh gotta love the z. Ill post this some where else as to not steal your thread bro, but any adivce would be much appreciated.

pardon my ignorance but what is a "tps" Im currently reading the EFI bible and trying to figure out how to make this 400 dollar 280 get me home for christmas. thanks

Soo... I have a 72 240z with a arizona manifold and 4bbl and i love it, but my z is being stripped, painted and waiting on an LS1. sooo . I just bought an 81 280zx for 400 hundred bucks, and it runs really rough and lumpy. Do you think it would be as easy to bring over my 4bbl of my 240 and put it on the s130? I noticed your 280 had megasquirt efi and I wonder if it would be as easy to take off the stock efi and swap on the carb? ps. your pictures dont work and I would love to see the pics of you swapping the two out.

1972 240z battery dies after a couple days and needs a charge, car only runs for a couple hours with lights. Alternator tested (draw of only 3 amps). SOme of the lights dont work (may be a short). HELP! I read this and Im going to do the swap next week. http://www.zhome.com/ZCMnL/tech/280Alt.html Im also looking into buying a msd kit and coil, new cap and rotor, and plugs and plug wires. Will this help or am I going to have to rewire the whole car? I have been searching for weeks and I hope the above two will fix the problem.

ahhh Do you guys know where you can find the plexi-glass scoops? I just had had a great Idea for my z! Is there a way to buy the scoops without buying the entire daytona kit? Id rather buy some than fab some up, fiberglass and me are not friends.

So Im in the process of performing the holley 4bbl conversion and will be posting pics soon as well as some sound clips and some feedback as far as performance and reliability. I know that when I searched the topic not much came up. My question is this: Holley, as well as arizona-z car states that you need either A) a low velocity fuel pump or the orginal mechanical one. It was converted to use an electirc fuel pump (its a cheap unit from autozone) I dont know how many psi the unit operates. Should I get a new unit or go back to the mechanical one, or would a better option be to use a fuel pressure regulator? I dont really know the science behind fuel systems so Im trying to get up to speed, but my dd just died so the z has to come alive! Help Please!

Thanks guys I think Ill take you up on the do it yourself Idea especially if the service from that provider is sub-par. Ill read up on the process hopefull it isnt too laborious.

Another bumb in the road!!! So while replacing my struts, springs and bushings in the rear I checked out and discovered allot of the brake lines were rusty and There appears to be a small leak some where. Is this a reasonable deal or is there cheaper kits out there? I searched and found that allot of you guys bend them your selves but Im working to much right now and dont have the time or the tools. Should I order this kit ? Getting ready for full suspension with urethane bushings and new disc brakes. interior has been stripped and is being refinished. paint this christmas and Ls1 in the summer:flamedevi Im painting it a Bmw dark silver with shwartz black stripes, a roof scoop, and a custom leather trimmed dash with autometer gauges and Leds. Im pulling the stereo from my Ls1 donor car too and installing the speakers and etc in custom kick and door panels.

My brake lights just stopped working! I hopped online ready to order new ones but then i tested the terminals and noticed they arent getting powwer and the bulbs are brand new and still working. hmm is it the switch or is there a common problem some where im missing? thanks

Im trying to rebuild my SU's I ordered a gasket kit but IT Doesnt come with the float gasket! Im going to try to find a cork/rubber gasket kit and cut my own because Ive waited two weeks to get this kit and its the wrong one! Can any one point me to a link on the SU videos (rebuild, tune etc.) I need to get this Z running asap as I am currently car less andhave no means of transportation. Ordering abook may take to long so I was also wondering if there are any e-books or detailed rebuilds with pics and or instructions. Thanks!! I tried to search but came up with nothing.

So Im cleaning my SU's and all the gaskets fell apart and useless. i bought a new gasket kit. Do these gaskets require the use of sealent? is there anything else I should address while I have them opened up and off the intake? Thanks in advance

Im in the process of rebuilding my 72 240 for a DD. It seems this "fumes" problem is a common problem I love to drive my z but I like to smell good too, Women dont exactly get weak knees for exhaust fumes and gasoline. lol Is there any way to fix this problem??
