That's awesome and how far along it's been! I'm working up slowly with mine but will use it for road course track days on R-Comps. Let me know if you run into driveability issues on the AEM wideband. I'm only at 8.5 lb stockish now.

Ian, Going stagger 16" ft/17" rr, overall diameter can be maintained close enough, around 25", with lower profile rears, easy. I had an inquiry on some measurements on the cell mounted position.
-
Sweet numbers, post up the charts please!!

Ian, I wonder which of us will get our cars out first. I've been sidetracked in trying to sell the M3, preps for smog check and re-flashing back to stock. Anyway, post up pics when you're done. So far the fuel cell install is first rate, by Offset Motorwerks, actually a BMW shop that does SCCA Spec E30 preps. I'm also sourcing shops that can supply RB26 parts in case I will need them once tracking starts. My next immed goals are a) upgraded, baffled oil pan. McKinney, Accusump? wider tread esp at rear. Thinking about stagger 17" rear because of more choices of R-comps, while still keeping the overall diameter equal to the 16"s up front. Have anyone done this? I could easily fit 255s at rear.

Ian, wish I could give you updates on the Quaife, but not installed yet. I'm having a hard time finding a local diff shop that can install it correctly. Have called several but need more comfort level on ones that are familiar with our R200s. I bought it since have been used for track duty by many. If anyone have inputs, chime in please........

A couple more things done. Using ATE Super Blue now, was on Motul RB600 on prior cars, we'll see. Also the ATL install moved the cross weight just a bit away from 50/50%, which I will address before tracking, but at least center of gravity is now better, lower. This is with 150 lb driver and about 4 gallons gas:
-
ATL installed in the sealed box, fully supported underneath. Aeromotive pump and filter under the chassis, away from passenger compartment.

Are you not including a dash horizontal/lateral bar, even though that may not be mandated?

Suspension configuration help...
aongch replied to New-to-240z's topic in Brakes, Wheels, Suspension and Chassis
Since you have coilovers, when you do the alignment also do corner balancing. I 'thought' just by estimating based on threaded collar positioning it looked correct, but it was off by a bit! Our cars are light enough, sensitive to balance. My braking and turning was inconsistent, it was definitely fixed. -
NIce goals, Mike. I'll be following your progress, great work! Soon I'll be tracking out west, safety stuff (fuel cell, cage) being finalized first.
-
Next steps, install this and replace all bearings in the R200

Smaller Cold Air Intake vs. Larger Intake with hot air
aongch replied to boosted300's topic in Nissan RB Forum
So far I have not overheated even in heavy traffic, and will monitor when tracking soon. I have the vented hood, would this be one of the best upgrades? Seems to extract quite a bit of the engine compartment heat, This might be a temporary solution, not having the filter elements on the other side of the support for best positioning: -
Nice build, for tracking?

Nice work! I might look them up in the future if competition is the next step. I'm local enough just north of OC. Keep posting.

Good point, didn't know the McKinney has these quality issues. I'll at least keep the oil topped up, but won't we run into foaming issues if overfilled?

Just started reading this thread, thx for sharing the details. I'm just about ready to track mine next month, basically still stockish tune, stock turbos pushing 8.7 lbs boost, just under 260whp SAE. What advice or gotchas I should look for? Lots of discussion on oil pressure, I don't think I have an issue, but do wonder if some of the high speed tracks and high-g corners locally will cause any oil starvation. I have the RB25 pan, and someone recommended the McKinney baffled pan. Thanks for any suggestions.

Work is progressing on the ATL fuel cell conversion. This is to SCCA specs, totally encased, framing will be built and welded to frame rails, and all filters and pump will be underneath. I'm not messing around in this area! Full credit here goes to Offset Motorwerks in Glendora CA. Under framing 1"x1" tubing, consulted Spec E30 official to meet SCCA rules. Cell will also be supported once dropped in. Stabilizing straps, and notice the 12-gal tank has plenty of ground clearance. Track days are short, mileage wise, not worried about the smaller capacity. I'm upgrading to ATL SP112 (12 gal) and relocating to underneath the floor. Any suggestions on where to place the Aeromotive pump and dual filters? Passenger side by rear side frame rail, or front of tank near diff carrier? Should I go with new hard lines or braided steel? Again, for a mainly tracked car, best safety in mind. I've been searching and looking at ITS set ups coming up with lots of variations. Btw, I always use a driver's suit, full carbon-x underwear, balaclava, gloves, not cutting corners, even in So Cal heat.

A little bit of rain kept me indoors, some good came out of that. Had to cover up the ugly center tunnel, decided on the oem look, doesn't add that much weight. Five-point harness a must Thinking proper way to mount the ATL cell underneath, current tank sits secured on top. Is another option to build a tight steel box since I've seen those in ITS cars.

Thinking of getting spare set to save my Wats for shows and meets only. Have anyone used these Holeshot or other TrakLites? Relatively lightweight, any quality issues? Seems reasonable for the set. They do have JWL, VIA ratings. http://www.ebay.com/itm/131367302647?_trksid=p2060778.m1438.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT

Ghost, your set up - engine, tranny, diff, axles etc etc - are unique to your own Hp/Torque pulls on your specific dyno. From my experience using tuning shops, you need to at least minimize the variances, that is, always use the SAME shop during similar weather conditions. Set your baseline then work from there. I've seen incremental changes on the same dyno from upgrades (do one upgrade at a time, i.e. air filter, so you can log the improvements/degradations) and that is the best measurement you can get. See how that translates on the track. For example, I've seen 1 sec improvement on my 2.7 mile Auto Club Speedway from 25 hp tune bump at the dyno, which is a good result, leaving all susp settings, tire pressures, etc. the same. Note at what calibrations your shop's dyno is set to - flywheel or wheel torque, hub or roller? Parasitic losses, what about all fluids, wheel bearing tightness, axles like those mentioned above, alignment, even tire pressures? Good luck man, I have just started my baselines on my Z for tracking, looking forward to 2015.

Merry Christmassss!!

Nice build, how is the weight and distrib with this set up? The car sits low, what spring rates are you using, and any comments on handling from the track? I'm starting softer with 250 ft/200 rr with slightly higher ride height. Are you running track days or sanctioned events?
-
My plan to shake things up will be this event, anybody local want to join on the 10th? I usually run the big track but will start off with auto-x for initial setup and working out any bugs. Been tracking with Speed Ventures for years, nice outfit. The auto-x is a non-work event, meaning you'll get 20-30 runs (~30-35 secs) if you stick around long enough. I might just end up signing up for the big track instead of auto-x, still prepping, fluids to change, ATE Blue, Redline, etc.

Done with the front ARP extended studs, rears to complete soon, I feel much safer now!! Threads are now M12 x 1.5. Front needed a 15 mm spacer to clear the Wilwoods with this street setup, but I'll probably keep the spacer for a little wider footprint for the track wheels.
