  1. Do you have the other piece that attaches to the end that doesn't have anything on it?
  2. I need a 280zx power rack and pinion intermediate shaft. If you have one how much shipped to 54911
  3. And I thought I was the only one with this problem! I did my intake 2 times before I finally got mine to seal up in the rear. I was at a local speed shop shooting the **** with the owner and I asked him if he had issues sealing them up and he said "nope not since I started using "Permatex Right Stuff sealant" He swears by this stuff. I didnt do anything special when installing it. Just layed a nice THICK bead on the block and a little under the intake gaskets and a little on top of them(where they meet the block) and torqued it down properly. My leak is 100% gone finally! Permatex # 25229 I got it at fleet farm. It comes in a areosal can with a tip to direct the sealant like a caulk gun.
  4. Yeah I forgot about when I screwed up the hood with those bolts! Yeah I can get some pics for ya. Really an amazing job since its just one layer of sheet metal.
  5. Wow I don't know when the board format changed but I think I like it! I don't remember when the last time I logged in... Well an update, I did get the hood fixed finally in late October. If you don't know what happened, my alternator "blew up" and sent the metal cooling fins through the hood. I ended up getting the hood welded. The body guy did an amazing job! You can't even sort of tell on either side of the hood that there was a hole there! I debated going with a fiberglass hood or a carbon hoon but I don't really care for the shrinking or expanding of FG or CF so I just had it fixed. I also had my spoiler redone since it was pealing up after 2 cold winters in wisconsin sitting in a garage, atleast thats what I blame it on. The car is now sittin in my heated shop all winter with the thermostat set to not drop below 50*F The other big new is I started my own shop. Some of you know that I am a mechanic for Nissan by trade. I started renting a 1500 square foot shop in September and have been busy buying tools and trying to get the word out that I'm ready and willing to do work! I have always wanted to run my own shop and this is just the first step for me. Right now I work after my 8-5 job at Nissan. Some nights I'll work till 12AM or later. Its a lot of work but getting a good customer base before I go out on my own is my first priority. I can't wait to stop working for the MAN! Being my own boss and getting all the profit is so much nicer! I am setting up my LLC(limited liability company) this month and with the way things are already going this year it won't be long before I can quite my full time job and do this full time. It's amazing how much happier people are paying $40/hour vs the dealership $93! Not to mention the rediculous parts mark up! I don't have much planned for the Z this winter. Maybe clean up my A-pillar gauge pod and deffinetly fix the problem that drains my battery after 5 days (pretty sure thats my clutch switch thats wired to a relay hot all the time). So what have I missed in the last 7-8 months?
  6. Hey- Love the Sportmax 962's. What size are they and offset? I have a 240z and wanted to buy a pair, but dont know the dims and measurements I need. I assume the s30 and s130's are the same in wheel sizes and fitment? Any help will be appreciated! Thanks!! -Dan

  7. Hey man, Love the Z! Just getting going on my own LT1 swap. Do you mind if I drop a question to you here or there

  8. Lookin good man! Glad to see the swap is coming together!
  9. I think it looks great! Turned out exactly the way you described to me in my head!
  10. Well its a spring loaded auto tensioner. Installation is straight forward...2 bolts hold it on. The only thing that was weird was that some of the fan blades on the alt. were bent forward when I went to do the tensioner? Not all of them though. They weren't hitting anything but they were slightly bent forward away from the alt? I have no idea why though. I didnt think much of it and just bent them back. I have State Farm as my insurance company. And I have classic collector car insurance on it. I don't think it made a difference though. They called the claims adjuster and told them what happen and they said it was covered. Wasn't a big deal to them at all.
  11. Well good news my insurance company is going to cover everything but the alternator and belt. All I have to pay is my $100 deductable! Now we just have to find a hood since one from Nissan isn't available anymore. Im hoping we can just tell them that I can get a hood from a company out in CA(JohnC @ Betamotorsports). They are the same price as a new hood from Nissan if it was available. No the alternator was not touching the back of the valve cover. The cover is notched for the alterantor though(factory). I actually just put a new belt tensioner on last week with a new belt(bearing was noisey). All seemed fine and noise was gone. Never made a single noise before it blew apart. The case on the alternator is broke in half. Not sure what brand the alternator was, it was a remanufactured though. I put in on the car over 2 years ago. And it depends if I get a hood from John or if I get another non turbo hood weather or not I keep the hood vents.
  12. Yeah I've been turning wrenches professionally for 7 years and I've never seen anything like this. Looks like about $600 for a fiberglass hood from JohnC @ betamotorsports. I hate hood pins but I may have to go with some for the rear of the hood if I decided to buy this hood from John. I don't know how repairable something like this is? I'm going to get an alternator and new belt for this asap and then take it over to my painter and see what he has to say. I just a can't seem to make it through a summer with out something going wrong with the motor. Last year it was OPTI spark issues and my steering gear box seizing up!
  13. So there I am driving out to my parents house in the Datsun to watch the house like a good son while they are gone, when all of a sudden my alternator decides to EXPLODE! Yeah it basically broke in half and then the cooling fins went through my god damn hood! Awesome! Time to upgrade to a fiberglass or carbon fiber hood I guess..... Pretty much had it with this motor set up. If its not one thing its another with this god for saken LT1.....
  14. Car is awesome but I want to work for that shop! Talk about some seriously great fabrication skills! Engine looks like it came in the car from the factory!
  15. Im not great with numbers but that's not why I got it. I could have got a big tattoo of a z car or something but that wouldn't explain my love for all fast cars enough. I am a very technical person and I love fast cars so I figured something that was more on the technical side would show that I'm more into doing things the right way and not just someone who throws a car together and it goes fast for a while....that's how I look at it anyways! LOL
  16. Well I turned 27 on Saturday and I have really wanted a tattoo for some time so I figured I give myself a Bday present! So on Friday me and 3 friends went down and watched me get my first tattoo! I think its highly appropriate for me! Guy P.S. I know I haven't been around much this summer but thats because I haven't had any issues with my car so I've just been lurking! Feels weird just being able to drive it when I want! Almost like its not a hybridz and I just bought it like a new car! LOL
  17. You can afford to run an A/C unit but not an extension cord? Sorry but that seems backwards! LOL
  18. Hey I'm located in wisconsin and My buddies and I are doing a V8 conversion on a 79 280zx...I really envy your setup... I'm looking for an LT1 and not quite sure on the tranny yet. Right now we are working on stripping everything down and working on the body...surprisingly very little rust! We'll be media blasting it in a couple weeks... I'm sure I'll be asking you question on the way if you don't mind?

  19. No I didn't add any resistors in line. I installed a painless wiring kit for the whole car so I have a "heavy duty" flasher, so I didn't need to do anything to make them blink normal. The day shot is kind of deceiving. They are actually pretty bright. I have been driving around with them for the past few weeks and I haven't got any honks or fingers thrown my way because people didn't know I was turning so I'm pretty sure they are very visible. Guy
  20. Have you moved the #2 coil to a different cylinder? I would assume since you have new injectors and still a P0302 code that its not an injector but you never know. I would swap the coil and see if the misfire moves. If it doesn't I would check compression on all 8 cylinders...they should be within 10% of each other, idealy closer than that though(more like 5% on a good solid motor).
  21. Um I think they do but you can't use the set back plates since the S130 engine bay is 3" shorter.

  22. i have a q do the s30 v8 adapters bolt in a s130 ? as im thinking of swapping my sbc to my s130 racer

  23. 2 strips might fit but it would be close. I think if I curved it up the front facia a little I could get 2 strips in there. I like the way it looks now though but I wouldn't mind seeing it with two strips in there.... Guy
  24. Well I really really doubt your rear o2's are causing any sort of misfire/rough running concern. They really have nothing to do with drivabilty at all. Ignore those codes. If it was me I would clean the Mass Air Flow sensor with some brake clean and let it dry. Then reinstall it and fire it up. Lean codes are usually caused by MAF sensor problems. It does sound like you have a fuel system issue though so I wouldn't rule that out either. Atleast cleaing your MAF sensor is darn near free! Did you already buy new injectors? You can send out your old ones and have them cleaned. Not sure where but a simple google search should net you some results! Guy
