  1. I can still remember back in 72 when I was stationed at Fort Belvoir in Va. Summer weekend activities usually included driving around in downtown Washington DC in my 70 Duster with a built 440 with the headers uncapped. Sooooooo much fun! The sound of a big block with open headers bouncing off those buildings. ...fond memories.
  2. Sound like it's the same color. Mine is brown with a gold metalflake.
  3. Looks like you have your work cut out for you. I can't tell from the pics, what color is it, almost looks like Mahogany Brown, like mine.
  4. Mine is a ZX, and they tend to have less clearance. i am running a Performer with a 1" spacer under the Holley carb. Absolutely no room for a air cleaner. I used a modified intake hat from a Dodge Dakota/Jeep Grand Cherokee 360 V-8 routing to a K&N filter in front of the radiator.
  5. My wife and I just purchased a NEW 2200 sq. ft. walkout ranch on an acre of land for $174,900, that includes all appliances (stainless steel). It is just over the county line from Grand Rapids area (prices drop substantially in next county). I now have a 16 mile drive to work with very little traffic to contend with, and a 48 mile drive in the summer to our cottage on the lake. Also, Western Michigan has a lot of high-tech industry, not to mention much recreation.

    spdsk8r's motor

    91 355 sbc, 500/300 cam, Performer w/ 600DP, 9.5:1 comp. Vortec heads; 700R4 w/ 2200 stall convertor; R200 w/3.70:1
  7. I'm a little partial to House Of Colors Pearl Yellow. I think it would look great on a Velo.
  8. My ZX is the stock Mahogany Brown. In fact, it still has the original paint.
  9. The local tranny shop here said he would build a 200-4R for my specific application for $1200, ie. light weight car, 400+hp, higher stall convertor. Just a comparison for you.
  10. When I got mine shortened, I just brought in the chevy driveshaft and front yoke. For $80 I got the shaft shortened and balanced, new Spicer u-joints and appropriate Neepco adapter, all assembled. I think I'd check around.
  11. I have the 700R4 in my 79 ZX and I am very happy with it. At 70 on the highway I am running just under 3000 rpm. I just can't imagine not having that overdrive. First gear in the 700R4 is a stump puller, very hard to keep the tires from spinning. If I was to do it over again, I think I would use the 200-4R. A little more docile first gear and lighter weight. A local tranny shop said they would sell me a rebuilt 200-4R set up for my specific application for $1200. I'm thinking hard about that one.
  12. Here's the wiring diagram for the TC lockup. The best method for TV cable adjustment is to go to the link Tim gave and get their TV made easy cable kit.
  13. A shifter from any late 80's, early 90's Camaro should work. The switch is incorperated into it. I got my shifter on Ebay for $6.00. It came with the connector/portion of the wire harness and shifter cable. You will have to change the lever on the transmission from the mechanical linkage type to the cable linkage type. That can be had from the junk yard, or I bought new from the dealer (they're cheap). The wires from the transmission are for the lock-up torque convertor
  14. Tony... I have it at home, I think. I'll scan it tonight and try to post it. The 700R4 has no provision for back-up lights/ neutral safety, that is on the shifter. Kick down is controlled by the TV cable (throttle valve cable). I used a shifter from a '94 Camaro. This has the back-up light/neutral safety switch incorperated.
  15. Sorry, Tim, I didn't see the link in your reply. Same place.
  16. Go to http://www.700R4.com . They should have all the info you need.
  17. Tell me about it. Back in the day, my cousin had a 70 LS-6. His was black with black vinyl top, black interior, and white stripes. His was a 4 speed also. That car was FAST.
  18. chris... The ZX does not require a setback as the Z does. On my ZX I fabricated the spacers that go between the block and the Chevy truck mounts, recomended by JTR. If memory serves me right, the driver side spacer is 2.75" thick, and the passenger side spacer is 1.50" thick. If you want accurate measurements, tomorrow, I can go out to my car and measure. Here is a pic of my driver side mount.
  19. What I meant by chasing it with a tap was I borrowed a thread tap that was the correct thread for the chevy trans, and turned it into the female end of the Datsun cable housing, thereby changing the thread in the Datsun cable housing to the chevy thread. I also know a couple of guys who just screwed the Datsun cable housing onto the chevy trans and let it change the thread, but I prefer to not risk messing the threads on the trans. The universal cable core will just slide into the Datsun cable housing. It will have to be cut to length and a end crimped onto the cut end. It sounds harder than it really is.
  20. For my speedo cable, I used the stock Datsun cable housing. On the transmission side the thread is very close to the chevy thread. I just chased it with a tap to change the thread. I then purchased a universal cable core and installed it into the Datsun housing. I have under fifteen dollars in my speedo cable. This is the third Datsun/V-8 conversion I have done this on. Two were 280Z's and my present ZX. So, one of those universal cable cores should do the job for you.

    Headers for 350V8 ZX

Mike, Will you, any time soon, be working on headers for the reciprocating ball steering for the ZX? Please, please, please say yes.
