  1. Guy, I'm all for it. For the power steering, I adapted the GM pulley to the Datsun PS pump and fabricated a mounting bracket. I'll try to get some pics to you, there is one in my photo album. For the driver's side exhaust I followed Greiman's lead (for now) and used the manifold that Dave used.

  3. They could have turned them over to the Iraqis. Don't they cut their hand off for stealing? They should feel lucky.
  4. My son is in Iraq right now. He is an engineer for the Marines. He is rebuilding infrastructures. He says the majority of people there are friendly and helpful. It's just the radical few that are causing trouble. Of course, our liberal media likes to paint a different picture over there.
  5. I remember when we were kids, if we were acting up or doing something wrong, all my dad had to do was start to unbuckle his belt and we would straighten up pronto. No raised voices or yelling. It was amazing.
  6. How'd they know I have to beat on my tank to get the Vespa to start? "Ol' Tankslapper of the White Werewolfes MC"

  8. I had thought about painting my ZX yellow. House of Colors has a Yellow Pearl that I just love. I have a skating helmet painted that color.
  9. We have had three of them. The first one we put 275k miles on it with only a clutch change (at 175k). My son (6'4, 215lb Marine) loved that car. He could go ANYWHERE with that car. He has driven through mud half way up the doors. We took it to Silver Lake (local sand dunes) one time. Found a hill with two trucks trying to climb. A V-8 Dakota and a short box Chevy 4 wheel, jacked up with big tires. They could only make it about 3/4 of the way up. They freaked when this little tracker with four people climbed up and over the top.
  10. I searched again, this time I got results. I found Strotters post with pic. http://hybridz.org/nuke/index.php?name=PNphpBB2&file=viewtopic&t=22113&highlight=volvo
  11. Quite a while back there was a thread about using a throttle body "hat" from a Volvo on a Holley carb for a cold air intake. I used the search function with no results. Does anybody have a photo of this "hat" in use on a Holley equipped 350? I can't find any in the local yards, and I have a out of town friend who works at a repair shop specializing in Volvos. He sent one to me, but it was the wrong one, the smaller diameter hole came out of the top instead of the side. Can anybody help? Thanks
  12. I have the MSA lowering springs on my ZX. They raised the car about three inches from my stock springs. Made it look like a 4x4. With the springs out, free length is about two inches shorter than my stock springs. But the compression rate is quite higher, so they don't compress as much. I cut one coil off each spring to get it to the same height as with stock springs. When I get my wheels mounted, I will cut more to get desired height.
  13. I second what danc said. I have a 79 ZX with a carbed 350 and 700R4 nearing completion. The JTR manual helps.
  14. If I remember right (old age senility is starting to set in) on the two 280 Z conversions I did, the drive shafts were about 20" long with Turbo350. On my ZX with 700R4 the driveshaft is 24".
  15. The most impressive car I've driven? I'd have to say a Porsche DP935. Totally amazing at 2.5 bars of boost. Too busy watching the boost gauge, looked at the speedo 212mph I've also gotten to drive a brand new 72 DeTomaso Pantera (in 72), a 67 Belvedere 2dr sedan/426 Hemi (a friend owns it), a Superformance AC Cobra replica with 427 side oiler ( another friend owns), oh, and one of my favorites, The car I owned when I was in the service in Germany, 66 Mini Cooper with a 72 motor. Car was set up for racing. That car wasn't real fast but it cornered unbelievably well.
  16. Mat73GNZ, Don't worry about oil changes on the Liberty. The dealer we bought it from provides free oil changes and free tires for life on all new vehicles bought there. plus they threw in extended warranty on deal. We have over 40k miles on it now with absolutely no problems.
  17. 1979 280ZX with 350 SBC/700R4, 1997 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited, loaded (my work truck) it has 173,000 miles and just getting started, 2002 Jeep Liberty Limited, also loaded and in Salsa color, 2002 Suzuki TL1000R. Also parked in my garage is my son's 90 Mustang LX notchback with built 5.0, 422rwhp. He's in the Marine Corp, in Iraq.
  18. On my first two conversions, for the speedo cable I used the Z cable housing and put a universal core, from the local NAPA, into it. Then I chased with a tap the transmission end coupling on the cable to US threads to fit GM trans. I think I had about $1.95 into it.
  19. Just got my new wheels and tires. ADR Fuel Lites, 17x7 with Kuhmo Ecsta Supra 712, 225/45ZR17. This is what they should look like, once I get spacers from Ross ( I have to save up for them).
  20. Dave, Your method is the one I originally intended to use. It appears there are more than one clamshell style chevy mount. The ones I had did not position the motor properly or line up with the crossmember mounting perches. So, the fabrication mode went into effect. Dave, what vehicle did your mounts come from? I still think your method is the easiest, with the correct parts.
  21. I used Bowtie Overdrive's TV system. They have excellent products as well as providing great support.
