    spdsk8r's ZX

    79 280ZX, 91 350sbc, 700R4, R200 w/ 3.70:1
  2. Welcome Mizugori, The V-8 does fit in a ZX. I even have a Performer intake with a 1" spacer between it and a Holley 600dp. All this under the stock hood. Sure, it's tight but it does fit.
  3. Back when I did my swap, I too tried to find an ideal donor vehicle. I finally settled on the first vehicle I found with a good 350. I purchased a 91 G-30 one ton van from a local electrician company. It had a rebuilt 350 with about 30k miles on it and a GM remanufactured trans. I paid $550 for it. I pulled the motor/trans and found I didn't want to use the trans, 4L80E. But I did get a lot of bracketry and parts. I sold the van body for $150 and the trans for $500. That gave me a good 350 with many parts and $100 in my pocket. Also, Grumpyvette got the aluminum driveshaft from the van.
  4. Updated stock look. A little lowered, updated wheels and tires, and very fast. In other words, SLEEEEEPERRRR.
  5. Isn't driving Nurburgring fun? When I was stationed in Germany (1972-1975) I got the oportunity to drive Nurburgring, as well as Hokenheim in my Mini Cooper. Not as fast as a 911 but still fun.
  6. Last year my son bought a Yugo SKS, matching numbers, all original for 200. He loves it. It's a little different than the 240 that he carries in the Marines, though.
  7. 44th and K-zoo is about 15 minutes from my house. (Go State)
  8. Chewievette, Where in GR are you located? I'm in Caledonia, south of GR.
  9. That looks very early seventies, high-schoolish.
  10. Personally, I would go with the Intense 5 with a bronze center, similar look to what I am running on my ZX. But, you are the person you must please, go with the wheel YOU like.
  11. The recirculating ball and roller steering will have a steering box on the drivers side rail which interferes with most exhaust manifolds and, at this point, all commercially available headers. The rack and pinnion will have a steering rack behind the crossmember possibly interfereing with the oilpan. I hope this answers your question.
  12. Mike, Will you, in the future, be offering headers for the ZX with recirculating ball and roller steering?
  13. The mounts are from a 68 to 72 Chevy truck. Check out my link below to see my version of what Ross was talking about.
  14. I did my ZX swap in about three months, including fabricating parts. I have done V-8 swaps in both a Z and a ZX. I don't think one is harder than the other, just different.
  15. I love that sound. Terry, when will you have yours on the road?
  16. What MR said. I got my motor in a 91 G-30 one ton van for $550. Pulled the motor, sold the body for $150 and the 4L80E trans for $500. Ended up with a rebuilt 350 four bolt main truck motor with <30K miles and $100 in my pocket. Shop wisely, it can be done.
  17. GV, glad to see you posting, again. Your knowledge is greatly welcomed and appreciated. How is that Vette build going? I hope you were able to put that driveshaft to good use. Got any pics, yet?
  18. The 200-4R will fit in place of the TH350, with the 700R4 you will have to change your driveshaft length. I have the 700R4 and traction is almost non-existant in first with 3.70 rear. If I were to do it over again I would use a 200-4R.
  19. Those lights look identical to the lights on my 79 ZX.
  20. If my car sounded like that, I'd have every ricer in town trying to run me. As it is, now, all I have to do is give the throttle one blip and they ALL back off and don't want anything to do with me.
  21. If I remember right, from my first edition JTR manual, Mike Knell used his "mule" car to tow a boat. Maybe he will chime in with a word of experience.
  22. You might check your local tranny shops, also. We have a local shop that has a catch of 200R4's. They will build one up, for your application for $1200 including converter.
  23. Paul, I'm not sure about drilling your own hubs, Never tried it. I'm sure you'll have to watch concentricity and spacing very closely. As for the 225/45/17, they might be stretched slightly on a 8"rim. I have the same size tire on a 7" rim and fit is perfect.
