  1. Yea thats what I was thinking on the gearing. 3.70's arent bad but I think the power would be much more usable with lower gears. I think the gears are even a little short in the 350z thats why I was considering 3.36 especially if i boost it on down the road.
  2. Prox - The white car is my gf's miata, then my 350z is snug and covered behind that. There is my roomies convertible blazer beside the 350z and a durango in front of that. The Scout is my roomies project, its pretty sweet, has a nice roll cage and utilitarian interior. The garage is filled with motorcycles! Too many vehicles and tooo little space....I cant wait till I have my own place! Speaking of which...took to motorcycle out today after the snow, kinda sketchy but i stayed on the main roads and was fine they did pretty good clearing the roads....what can I say I didnt wanna get the 350z dirty!!
  3. ZZZeee - its cheap easy to work with, can be layered, sewn, glued, sanded. used to easily make 3d panels....also great for pattern making. I think its really more used for really curved panels though, I will probably use plywood as the base for the door panels and chip board to creature certain features and then cover with foam. But I have NO IDEA what Im doing this will be an experiment.
  4. Thanks for the leads so far guys. Ive tried Joanne's fabrics but they didnt have thin closed cell foam and I couldnt find chip board there either, they did have the vinyl though. Madkaw - Thanks for the link that looks like the perfect place for foam. Those pieces looks really nice, I think I am going to cover all the rear plastic panels in vinyl as well.
  5. Hey guys, Im looking to start on my interior soon. Ive got a great book that shows step by step how to build and upholster custom panels its called "Custom Auto Interiors" by Don Taylor and Ron Mangus. I got it at Barnes and Noble the other day. Anyway alot of the techniques they use ont use sewing machines so that was a big plus for me. I need to sorce hte materials though and Im not sure where exactly to purchase this stuff, in person would be great but online works The main things I am looking for are: - Chip Board - 1/4" Closed cell foam - Vinyl - Good contact cement Thanks for any help!
  6. Horatio - Nope Im a Hoke as in my family name....my brother was a hokie though! He really liked VT. I go to NC State for engineering. I love the snow every once in a while, it was a lot of fun messing around in it today. But I prefer the warmer weather....dont think Ill be moving any farther north.
  7. Thanks guys, I talked with borla about the exhaust. I was initially going to change out the rear muffler AND add a resonator in the transmission tunnel. They checked out my website, exhaust and videos. In their opinion changing the rear muffler was pointless and they didnt think it would drop the sound much sugggesting suggest that I only add a resonator... So I got another XR-1, the smallest one they make which is 5" round and 15 inches long. Im going to install it next time I work on the car hopefully it will knock out the drone and cut the sound level down a notch.
  8. Woke up this morning to about 3 inches of snow on the ground here at NCSU, real honest to god snow....its been snowing all day and we have about 5". This is a pretty big event for us in NC where we hardly get any snow to speak of and if we do its a slushy mess. Needless to say the sleds four wheelers and dirtbikes are out! My dog's first trip out in the snow was entertaining...she likes to eat it though:
  9. Hey Guys, I just finished another short video of the car. We don't get much traffic over in the v6 section so I thought I would post here. I hit the rev limiter twice; this thing rows through the gears ridiculously fast especially when the tires start spinning. Im thinking about dropping the rear end down to a 3.54 or 3.36 from the 3.7. Older Videos: VQ Startup and Rev VQ Drive By
  10. Thanks Gabe and Jon! John - Thats a great price on powdercoating. I was coated 50-60 bucks per wheel and a rather large wait time to go with that. I could have also powdercoated them myself as once I got my tires of I relised they fit in my oven, but just barely! I still had a few reservtions about powercoating that lead me to choosing paint: - Time: with it being my daily and no spare wheels I couldnt afford to drop the wheels off and wait - I could have pc'd them myself but I dont have a sand blasting cabinet big enough to fit my wheels in it - Powercoat fades with continuous exposure to UV worse then paint, this was an issue to me since the car stays outside and I wanted gloss black. - Plastic Center caps, I wanted them to match. - A HUGE pain to redo pc down the road If they get scratched or I want to change the color. Overall i love PC on suspensioin and under the hood but I think base/clear is better suited to wheels.
  11. My girl and I have a red min pin / mix that is really cool. She has short hair and doesnt hardly shed at all weighs 12 lbs. She was easy to train and everything and has been a good dog so far. She is either on or off though, its pretty funny when she spazs out and drifts around the living room.
  12. This weekend I decided to finally paint the wheels on my 350z. I spray painted them satin black a while ago but it chipped off and was hard to keep clean. Since I was ready for new tires I figure now was the time to do it. it turned out taking way more work then I planned especially with the time crunch I got into. Spray Booth: They are so shiny its kinda hard to see the wheels, looks good in person though. 275 meats out back, and my tag : There is still a little rim soap on the edge as I didnt want to wash them till they cured a little more. But anyway Ive really been enjoying the 350z as a daily driver it really is fun to drive. I purchased the car almost exactly a year ago and I have put 20K on her. I still love hopping in it everytime I go out..she handles like she is on rails. My only dislike is the the extremely limited amount of cargo space. So far she has received: - Burnt orange Leather seats (power and heated) - Kinetix Plenum w/ cold air intake - Tanabe GF210s Springs - Hotchkis Sway bars - Rear controls arms - Wheel Spacers - Slotted rotors/ axxis pads/ SS lines Ive got a factory Bose stereo system on the way and some SPL front control arms to install and she will be finished for a while. Anyway just thought I would share tell what yall think! Now I just gotta find some other things to paint before I tear down the booth I think Im going to color math some vq parts on my 240z.
  13. I just test fit the adapter and it works great! The shifter boot and everything turned out working really nice. Here are some pictures of the install: Here are a couple shoots of the shifter in my car and how I modified the transmission tunnel. I plan of use a 350z shifter boot to seal the opening around the shifter, I looked at the one on my 350z and it looks like it will work well i just gotta order one. I have given the go ahead to have a run of the shifters made. There will initially be 15 available and the final price is 180 dollars shipped within the US, 185 to Canada. I will ship worldwide but you'll have to PM me for a quote. They should be ready in a few weeks, Ill have to get the final date from the machine shop. The shifters will be the same as pictured above except tumbled and black anodized. Brad - Thanks for the compliment, although my car is far from perfect...it just looks good in pictures!
  14. Also I would check out Braille batterys before i bought another odessy.
  15. I have been using a PC680MJT for quite a while. I have been impressed with the pattery but keep in mind its still a small bettery regaurdless of how you look at it.......any current draw with the car off and its gone. Leave your dome light on, anything....and she wont start in a couple hours. Good thing is though they can be deep cycled hundreds of time and they charge up to full charge in a little over an hour.
  16. I don't mind sharing In fact I think its an important for anyone considering this swap. I have not kept close records of what I spent (for obvious reasons ) However I would say I probably have around 7-8K in the swap total. The majority of which was covered by the sale of my L28 parts. However.......I spent a great deal of additional money on things that were not necessary, namely the exhaust and the fuel system. I spent over $1000 in supplies for my stainless exhaust. It costs pretty much the same amount of money to swap any engine in as far as mounts, exhaust, driveshaft, fuel system etc...and its not a cheap en devour.
  17. I just saw one at the dealership, sticker was 38,200. 350z touring with sport package pretty much fully loaded. And I must say they look pretty dern good in person.
  18. Thanks! I designed the part based off my original much simpler relocator which I machined myself on a mill and lathe...these are being made by a machine shop with a CNC mill. The finished product will be tumbled and anodized black just like my L28 transmission adapters were. I need to test this one next time I go home to make sure the boot works and everything is good, then I will go ahead and have a run machined. Lemme know if you want one!
  19. Janaka or any others that already have this kit completely installed do you have any pictures of the door panels? The kit comes with spacers to move the regulator in a little bit but I dont think that they would work on our cars.
  20. I havent done that yet, it will be a couple weeks before I work on the car again...I hope to finish the install at that point and I will post more pictures.
  21. I never put the motor in the car with the A/C but im going to say that i HIGHLY doubt its possible. I think the pulley would be pretty much sitting where the steering rack spline is. I also am goign to have to say that if you cant fab and weld this probably isn't the swap for you... might want to go LS1 or similar or even consider the L28. Any more updates Myron...vid's and whatnot?
  22. Im pretty sure they are the same. However that would be a great thing to check..perhaps I can sell you the prototype at a discounted rate to check out if you can be prompt about getting it installed. PM me if you are interested.
  23. I would also like to mention the usually overlooked water to air i/c. When done right they can be very effective and same water coolers would be easier to hide....you could even mount them in the fender wells behind the wheels with rock gaurds. Corky bell's book has some good examples.
  24. 1 Fast Z - They *should* clear like I said I havent tested but as you can see from the side shout everything is pretty much flush just the thickness of the cables. jtmny1999 - I believe that is the regular kit, I have the delux kit which is supposed to be stronger and quieter..idk EvilC - The kit comes with an assortment of plugs to plug the hole in the door. 70z - Thanks for the link, cool how we mounted the motor in the same spot! And that gives me another idea power door locks while Im at it!
